Outstanding
EElinaNikThis is the best hotel in Kurokawa! 1. Stuff is kindly meet you, explain everything and help as well as it possible. 2. Ryokan has 6(!) private bathes with different style. No extra payment,, no reservation. You can available status on your TV. During my staying there was at least one ready for use, no time all of them was using. 3. Water. Just perfect, has a right temperature and composition. Just put yourself into the bath and feel relaxed just since that second. 4. Rooms. Clean and fresh. 5. Open-air bath is cool to, for me a bit too hot. And I was the only one who use it during the dinner time. 6. I had only breakfast, but it is service in private room in dinner hall. Very delicious with various of dishes. 7. The hotel located at two sides of the river. Travelers could enjoy a scenic view from the bridge.

AAlbina LiubitskaiaAn absolutely wonderful experience.
The staff at the ryokan were incredibly polite and always ready to help with anything we needed. Upon check-in, we were provided with traditional attire, pajamas, tabi slippers, bath amenities, and a small welcome treat with matcha and coffee. We also asked at the front desk if they could give us a ride to the bus stop after check-out, and they kindly said yes, of course.
Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. At first, we were planning to explore several other local onsens, but after experiencing the ones at the ryokan, we felt completely satisfied. There are separate baths for hotel guests (men’s and women’s), baths open to both guests and visitors (also divided by gender), as well as a private onsen. One of the onsens also has a sauna.
The traditional dinner and breakfast were both impressive—delicious and very generous in portion.
The surrounding grounds are stunning, perfect for peaceful walks. This ryokan is a bit further from the main cluster of inns, but that was exactly what we wanted—to enjoy quiet walking.
At night, our futons were laid out for us, adding to the authentic experience. The only reason I deducted one star is the very bright green light on the ceiling that stays on all night and can’t be turned off or covered. I didn’t have a sleep mask with me, and the ryokan didn’t provide one, so I had a sleepless night. It was quite unpleasant.
That said, I still highly recommend this ryokan—it’s an unforgettable place to stay.

GGuest UserI stayed for one night in mid-May 2025. This new, traditional-style hotel is designed for privacy and a relaxing holiday. Absolute privacy—even at breakfast, you won't encounter anyone else; your own waiter serves you in a private area. It was raining, so I spent the entire time at the hotel. A stylish, huge room with a large private onsen made you want to stay in it. A huge TV with good sound and YouTube, which is not always available in Japanese hotels. Fast WiFi. The kaiseki breakfast was delicious, so delicious that I could have eaten another one. The hotel is located in a village, well away from the town of Kurokawa and the bus terminal. There is no store in the village; there is nothing at all there. The bus terminal is a 30-minute walk from the hotel, only with one backpack. A local bus runs very infrequently between the hotel and the bus terminal. However, in the morning, after breakfast, a free shuttle runs from the hotel to Kurokawa.

GGuest UserThis was my first time experiencing a Japanese-style hotel, and everything from the hot spring facilities to breakfast and dinner was absolutely perfect. It’s definitely a place I’d consider visiting again. The only drawback is its location upstream of Kurokawa Onsen, which is a bit far from the town. If you want to see the town's night view, you'll have to drive. During the day, you can hike from the hotel down to the town, and the natural scenery along the way is beautiful. Since it's downhill, it's not tiring. I recommend booking the hotel's shuttle service to pick you up from the town's visitor center in the afternoon, so you don't have to hike back uphill to Sansuimoku.

Ee lianA round trip from Tenjin by bus costs 8000 yen and takes three hours! Remember to book your tickets in advance as there aren't many services. The old street in Kurokawa Onsen is very quaint and full of character! Most of the onsen ryokans are built along the creek. The ryokans are simple and clean! In the open-air onsen, you can listen to the gentle flow of the stream and feel that sense of tranquility. In the evening, during the illumination season, walking around in a yukata and geta (wooden clogs) is truly delightful! The kaiseki dinner featured exquisite and unique dishes, including local horse meat and wagyu beef! It was very filling, even for a woman! Please note that the restaurant intentionally doesn't have Wi-Fi; the owner hopes guests can quietly enjoy their meal without disturbance! I absolutely applaud this! The ryokan also offers a shuttle service to Kurokawa Onsen Station, which is a 5-minute drive away. Next time, I plan to stay in Kurokawa Onsen for two days to fully enjoy the peace and quiet!

CChuck ChuangI love the interior of this resort. The staff members are really friendly and helpful. I had little knowledge in selecting local onsen resort, so my initial expectation was not high. Much to my surprise, I love everything this hotel has had. Facility wise everything looks brand new. The room is spacious and comfy. The public bath and indoor onsen are big and clean. As for the meals, the presentations were good and they were delicious. I have no complaint about it. Keep up with the good work. Look forward to staying there again.

梨子子The food was fantastic and delicious, and there were so many hot spring options to choose from, with beautiful scenery too. I really loved the cloaks provided; they not only kept me warm but also looked elegant when worn.

Jjanesi999This is the largest onsen hotel in Kurokawa; in fact, it's the only large-scale hotel there, all others are inns. The hotel itself is quite spacious, featuring three public baths and two private onsens. If there are many people, you might have to wait in line at the entrance, but it's usually not too long. It operates on a one-night, two-meal basis. Dinner is a buffet with a good variety of dishes. The taste is decent, nothing spectacular but not bad either. I personally quite enjoyed the breakfast, which was also very plentiful. Our room had a bed, not a tatami mat. I thought it was pretty good, even though it was small. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area and was very clean, although the yukata was a bit unflattering. The hotel has a rooftop with what was supposed to be a telescope, but it was out of order when we visited. In the evenings, there's a mini-bar offering some drinks and snacks.

Cchee lengI enjoyed Fomoto Ryokan, it's very clean and the service are impeccable! They spoke fluent English! There are pick up and drop off services at the main bus stop if the timing is afternoon. Which is very helpful during the snowy winter weather. The food are awesome The 11 private Onsens are the highlight! It's like a mini theme park in your accomodations where u explore once you check in, at night and the next morning. I highly recommend anyone who are looking for traditional onsen Ryokan in Kurokawa.

GGuest UserThe main plus this location , if you want to be quiet alone with nature ... Early in the morning even the deer breakfasted opposite our terrace 🦌 The common swimming pools were very much liked , the water was hot as you wanted . The room in Japanese style was taken and it corresponds to the mood , I wanted to enter Japanese culture . The hotel owners helped us in this 🙏 All staff very kind . Food is very delicious , for two nights different menus . Thank you the chef of the chef 🙏 It was my birthday and I spent a great time . The Recan fulfilled our expectations 💫
