Wapa di Ume Sidemen

Facilities: A bit old-fashioned. Hygiene: Not very clean, there were hairs on the bed. Ambiance: The ambiance is perfect, Sidemen rice paddies are truly worth it! There's a small travel agency just a dozen meters to the left when you exit the hotel, where you can rent scooters. The owner is really nice. Service: The staff are all friendly and greet you, which is good. Spa voucher IDR 100,000/room/session: The spa was very mediocre, more expensive than popular Instagram spots, and the technique was nothing special. The complimentary spa voucher was only valid for a one-hour massage, but this wasn't mentioned beforehand.

Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort

This 5 star hotel is really excellent. It’s located up the mountain in central Bali looking out over the forests and jungle towards Ubud. It’s cooler as a result and providing it’s not too cloudy (hotel can be in the clouds at 1200m elevation), you can see for many miles. This really makes the infinity pools spectacular.  Rooms are spacious, we had a villa with hot tub but also had a nice garden, and room is equipped with everything you might need including mosquito net over the bed. As you would expect, the service and restaurants are first class offering a selection of Balinese and western dishes. The hotel is also a working coffee plantation and this is apparent in many ways, from the morning tours (free) to the 4 types of coffee power included in the complimentary room tea & coffee set. It’s a beautiful hotel, pricy though and there’s not much in the local vicinity, but if you want luxury and a great experience in central Bali, it’s a good choice.

We went for our 20th wedding anniversary and could not have been happier with our choice! This place is stunning both inside and out. We were amazed by how beautiful the surroundings were with every detail well thought out. The room was stunning and well laid out. When we arrived they had cooled down the room and heated the pool which was the absolute perfect temperature the entire time. Having a wam pool was a big part of how much we enjoyed our stay as we spent quite a bit of time in it. The room and outside patio area was very private and we felt as though we were the only ones there at times. The food was also amazing whether we ate at the poolside restaurant, the high end restaurant Aperitif, or eating in the Pinstripes Bar. We really enjoyed the bar and the staff there. They were so attentive and everyone made us feel right at home. We enjoyed great conversations there and got some good recommendations on things to see in the area. The drinks were really next level as these bartenders know their craft. It was fun to watch them mix the drinks and they explained the science behind what flavors they were combining and how some of the spices and other ingredients were locally sourced. The entire staff was also another highlight. Everyone we encountered could not have been more friendly and attentive. The general manager even took the time to sit with us to see how our stay was going and asking other questions that showed he was very committed to the property. We also like that this is a family owned property. They were staying there while we were there and it was clear they too all had a passion for excellence. We researched properties for months before deciding on Viceroy. We did spend a bit more in the end than we may have for other 5 star properties, but after reading some of the reviews at the other places, we kept circling back to Viceroy. We are so glad we did and in the end, the extra money still made the stay seem like a bargain. We have paid about the same for a tiny room in a substandard hotel in New York City and here we were treated like kings in one of the most beautiful spots we have ever stayed in. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special. We will be back! John and Dan

Sanak Retreat Bali

For a relaxing, romantic stay in Bali away from the tourist hot spots, the Sanak Retreat is the ideal place to stay. It is really exceptionally nice located in the middle of the rice terraces and the few bungalows blend harmoniously into the landscape. We felt right at home. The food is ok and not too expensive. The location invites to hiking and biking. The only downside to our stay was that we were there at the time of the rice harvest and the farmers in the immediate vicinity of the hotel burned the rice palm after the harvest. This has unfortunately stunk terrible and fouled entire stretches of land for days. Those who are sensitive to bad air should try to avoid the time of the rice harvest.

We chose this hotel for its infinity pool, but on the day of arrival, we found out it was closed due to heavy rain. We were, of course, disappointed and initially wanted to cancel our booking and get a refund. However, Trip.com informed us that the hotel refused the refund, even though the front desk staff at the hotel swore that Trip.com hadn't even sent them a refund request. It was already evening, and we were tired, so we decided to stay after all, and we didn't regret it one bit. We discovered there's a 'jacuzzi' area with two pools, one with warm water and one with cool water – it was incredibly relaxing in the evenings after walks. The breakfasts on the open-air terrace were amazing, and we also had dinner there. The first time, we were thrilled with the fish dishes, but the national dishes the second time were just okay. By the way, afternoon tea with desserts and snacks is also included in the price. As for the room, it was incredible – a huge bed, pristine linen, and a bathroom with a window overlooking the jungle – absolutely stunning! And the cherry on top was a complimentary one-hour massage for two at the spa as compensation for the non-working infinity pool (provided upon our request, of course). I'd love to come back here and stay longer.

Good facility with activities for kids and family, service and staff attitude is excellent. Breakfast has good wide range and chef are always ready to alter things to your taste.Bakery items are one of best we tried in Bali visit. Gym, swimming pool facilities and lift arrangements are very good. Remember to request rooms with better view if you are interested as not all rooms have open view.

Of course the location is incredibly beautiful and the villa room with private infinity pool was stunning, but you can tell the resort is new and there’s many issues that have not been worked out yet. My husband has a peanut allergy and they brought a dish to the table not once but twice with nuts on it, one of which I took a bite of not realizing and if that was him he would be dead right now. Also the situation with breakfast was so odd because the employees all tell you it’s just a buffet but there were some guests ordering and we were confused, it took us 3 days in to realize we can order made to order dishes and upon asking I had to go through several employees before one finally brought us the menu. The spa was also so odd, the massages were fine (although I asked for deep tissue both times and it was very soft and I even mentioned I can handle more pressure and not much changed), the staff is all smiley and kind but the actual services offered were not great. The manicure/pedicure was awkward at best, they do not have the proper tools to take off gel nails and ended up spending an extra hour just scraping off my nails which was very painful and uncomfortable. I have many more small issues that happened but I can chalk all that up to the place being new and staff not knowing what’s going on. If you take the farm tour, there will be no actual information about the farm just pointing out different plants that are in the signs you could read yourself, and be wary there is many stairs and slopes, it’s slippery, especially after rain, if you have any mobility issues or can’t climb stairs easily I would not recommend this resort at all because everywhere you walk will be some sort of safety concern. The food at dinner was pretty tasty though, I will end on that being a positive.

The standard room has an AC according to trip.com, but in fact it only has a fan. But I wont blame the hotel, because I have the strong feeling trip used a.g.o.d.a as a third party and put the wrong information. The view from our room was very nice, and we had the banana pancake for breakfast that was excellent. It is a good accomodation for the price and I would recommend it. But next time I would choose a room with AC

Gede was so nice and helpful. True MVP. He gave me suggestions and even a ride to somewhere too far to walk! Short walk to Dream Beach (with a good restaurant) and Devil’s Tear. About 20 minute walk to Mushroom Beach with more restaurants and a few ATMs along the way. You can rent a scooter from the hotel. The bungalows are rustic but really pleasant. The AC is strong and there’s a mosquito net for the bed so it’s not a problem that there are some gaps in the walls and door. I liked the open-air bathroom. The shower was nice. The pool is also great. Breakfast was eggs and toast, plus coffee/tea and juice. The outlets weren’t placed super conveniently at the floor if you like to charge your phone at night and see it in bed. The “safety box” thing in the room isn’t actually secure - you can open it with your finger. However, I always felt super safe and wasn’t worried about needing to use it.

The whole room was really nice, with great mountain and sea views. The restaurant food wasn't great, but it was inexpensive. The most comfortable thing was lying on the big sofa on the balcony, looking at the sea. The hotel also provided welcome drinks, which were a local specialty. However, the environment was a bit too wild. My clothes were hanging in the bathroom, got blown to the floor, and were eaten by insects, leaving two big holes. Also, the small road leading to the hotel was a bit bumpy, although the hotel did offer a shuttle bus. There weren't many special restaurants on the street outside the hotel, but there were durian vendors, and I bought two good ones for 60k.
