GGuest UserThis hotel is super convenient for solo travelers, being close to both the train and bus stations. The room was incredibly clean and surprisingly spacious for a standard room in Japan – we could easily fit two large suitcases! The hotel's location is also great, close to popular attractions and restaurants.

GGuest UserThe location is great, right next to the station. On the day we checked in, we only waited five minutes in line at noon to eat at Ajikura Tengoku. In the afternoon, we took a taxi to Hida no Sato around 5 PM, and at 6:30 PM, we took a taxi directly to Maruaki, where we only waited about 20 minutes to get a table. It wasn't as exaggerated as some posts on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform) made it out to be.
The hotel room was a bit small, but the breakfast was decent.
Overall, there's no real need to stay a night in Takayama; you can just go straight to Hirayu.
Both Maruaki and Ajikura were delicious. I highly recommend ordering the most affordable Hida lean meat directly, skipping the set menus, and don't bother with A5. We even had Maruaki again in Nagoya, ordering 6 plates of lean meat and 3 plates of beef tongue. It was a very satisfying meal.

Hhwee yin LeeA wonderful experience staying in a studio apartment with the kitchenette. You may visit the near by Boss supermarket or the other opposite supermarket to purchase hida beef and grill them in the apartment instead of eating in the grill shop. Save lots of money. So close to train station and Nohi bus terminal, less than 3 minutes walking. Easy to get around for 1 day trip like Shirakawago, Ropeway, Gero, Hirayu onsen. Staff do not speak fluent English but they do understand English. Coffee, tea are all provided in the front desk. For me, only thing that I dislike is the hard pillow. Overall excellent stay 👍.

GGuest UserThe location is the best value adding item to this hotel, they only offered limited room cleaning so it may take a while to adjust if you are international travellers. Having the microwave and washing machine in the room is another key advantage of this hotel, overall I will say this is one of the best options in Takayama. Oh they also have free water machines every floor so you can save up buying bottles from convenient stores.

🛍️ **Nearby Amenities:** Miyagawa Morning Market, Ajikura, and Akimaru are about a 10-minute walk away. There's also a large supermarket and a drugstore nearby.

🛌 **Twin Beds Can Be Combined:** The two twin beds in the room can be put together to create a super large bed (over 2.4 meters), perfect for families with kids – no crowding.
📦 **Spacious:** At 22 square meters, the room is significantly larger than hotels in major Japanese cities, so you can open your luggage without any hassle.
🚿 There's a bathtub in the room for a soak. However, for just showering, the public bath is highly recommended as it's more spacious, especially when showering with children.
♨️ **Public Bath:** Separate for men and women, with one pool. You can check the crowding status on the TV in your room.
🎨 **Stylish Design:** Opened in 2021, the hotel features modern and tasteful decor, with an art-filled lobby.

After a relaxing hot spring bath, there were free cold drinks available. The surrounding area is lovely, and it's just a short walk to the attractions. Getting to Takayama Station was also super convenient.

MMike IgOur stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. It’s definitely a “must-visit” if you’re looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation — even a short stay of 2–3 nights is enough to make it special.
The ryokan is quite old, which actually adds to its authentic charm, though it might feel a bit less comfortable for more demanding guests. That said, it’s very well maintained and everything is clean and thoughtfully arranged.
The onsen facilities were excellent — one public bath and four private ones that you can use freely. After long days of exploring, it was a real treat.
We highly recommend booking with the traditional dinner included. The meals were a highlight: we had Yakiniku the first night and Shabu-shabu the second, both featuring fresh, generous portions of delicious food. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese set — beautifully presented and made with care, though not quite to our personal taste.
The location is stunning — surrounded by mountains, rivers, and blossoming trees. It feels peaceful and remote. Just note that amenities like ATMs or grocery stores are limited nearby. However, it’s well connected by bus (just a 3-minute walk from the ryokan), which can take you to Kamikochi or the terminals at Takayama and Hirayu Onsen. Buses run about once an hour, so it’s quite manageable.
Overall, a fantastic stay — relaxing, unique, and highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a more traditional and scenic side of Japan.

GGuest UserThe overall facilities and environment meet the standards of a well-established five-star resort hotel. It's quite large, and while it's older, it's well-maintained. The tatami flooring looks quite new, so it seems to have been renovated. I booked a one-night stay with two meals; dinner was a buffet, and overall, it offered great value for money. The hot spring facilities are also good, not crowded, and it was very relaxing to soak after returning from Shinhotaka. I'd definitely stay here again if I have the chance.

SsyamimiaziahThe room was quite small but all the amenities is good. there's onsen (which i didnt explore) but you can basically monitor everything from the tv, to check if the laundry is currently used or if the onsen is crowded. theres free drink and food upon arrival. and the front desk can speak english 😁 anddddd theres family mart in front of the hotelllllll. with parking some more and not that far from hida town.
