"I had a comfortable one night stay at this hotel. I was only able to get a booking for my last night in Jerusalem as it was fully booked for other days at the time of my booking. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The bathroom and bedding was spotless which is a big factor for me. I would definitely recommend this hotel."

"Location centric to the Old City. It is the pilgrims dream stay with everything being within a 20 minute stay. It is my fourth time in Jerusalem and nothing beats Notre Dame. The hostel is clean, separate rooms and bathrooms for men and women. Breakfast, water fountain and vending machines all in the same space. Jumana who is the manager is an excellent host and she will make sure you have the most pleasant experience."

"This review is long overdo. To begin we must thank Gilly Frankel. She, more than anyone at the hotel, saw to our pleasant and enjoyable experience. Gilly was involved while we were still in the United States, communicating with care, concern and professionalism. Some details bear mention. When we arrived at the hotel, Gilly made herself available for anything and everything we needed. From places to go, to the few overlooked details by others at the hotel, we knew we could count on Gilly. Being that the war was still ongoing, its effect was painfully felt by the fewer numbers of tourists all throughout the city. Our weekend Shabbat was wonderful. One of the front desk members dropped the ball on the last morning of our visit, forgetting to leave us breakfast packages to bring with us to the plane, leaving us without food for our journey back home. Disappointing for a hotel of this calibre. But the visage of Gilly lingers and we are deeply grateful for the kindness and professionalism she extended. Ask for her when you visit the WA Jerusalem. It will make your special occasion in a wonderful hotel more special."

"The hotel is small, but very convenient both in location and in terms of accommodations. It's four stops from Jerusalem Train Station on bus #18. The Old City is a 7-10-minute walk away, and Jaffa Street with its cafes and shops is a minute away. The rooms are small, and some even offer capsules, but we had a triple room with a bunk bed. The downstairs bed wasn't really a bed—it was a fold-out sofa that had seen better days. In front of it was a large TV with YouTube. We watched it lying down, without folding the sofa, because we were afraid we wouldn't be able to unfold it for sleeping. Since the hotel is located in the basement, our window was small and dirty, purely for ventilation. The room has air conditioning, a small refrigerator, a fan, a TV, another sofa, a low table, a bathroom with a shower, and several lighting options. Water from the shower leaks heavily onto the bathroom floor, so be careful! There's no closet, just a coat rack, so it's difficult to organize your things, but we managed. The hotel has a kitchen with a microwave, stove, hot and cold water dispenser, tables, and chairs—a bit cramped, but comfortable. There's a gym downstairs. There's also a small outdoor area with tables and chairs. It's cozy, with lots of modern art. Towels are exchanged upon request. Recommended for travelers who prefer the outdoors to the inside."

"We were greeted so warmly and appreciated the tea and sweets in the lobby. The architecture inside and out was beautiful including the terrace. Our room was comfortable and clean Each breakfast was generous and delicious with appetizers , pastry basket and choice of hot dish. Hotel was a 20 minute walk to old city and steps from shopping on Ben Yehuda. Front desk was very helpful. We can’t wait to return."

Rafael Residence Boutique Hotels in Jerusalem

"The bad: there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms, only in the kitchenette / living room area. This was a big surprise as the hotel says it offers air conditioning - at the least, that's very misleading. When I asked about this, the hotel's response was "leave the door between the rooms open (we did and it didn't help). It also happened to be a heat wave while we were there, meaning the room was extra hot. The good: great location, room was clean, staff was nice, check-in and check-out couldn't have been simpler (literally pick up the key and drop it off), good shabbat policy (can check out after shabbat ends)."

"I booked a room for my parents for a night. The room was different from what appears in the pictures (probably they took pictures of the nicer rooms), there was a strong smell of cigarettes, there were no towels and there was no representative of the hotel present (other guests contacted a hotel employee for them to ask for towels). They went to a concert and came back at night to find that the employee put 2 towels but they were dirty, the shower didn't close all the way, the shower head fell off the wall, the bathroom sink causes flooding if used and foam came out of the drain. In the morning there was also no representative of the hotel, later I spoke with him on the phone, he answered rudely and claimed that my parents (60+) tore the shower head from the wall themselves and that they should have left immediately after the check-in (most of the problems were discovered at night and they had tickets to a concert). Recommend to stay away!"

"I liked the location; it felt very authentic. I wouldn't recommend staying for more than two days, though. The first photo is misleading; it's not the actual view from the room, but rather a view of the Austrian Hospice. Inside, the room itself was nice and clean. However, during the night, I heard a rustling sound in a bag, and it turned out to be a large cockroach."

"This hotel is trash. The receptionist, they don’t speak English. If you ask them for three things ‘towel, packet of coffee, plastic bag, because they don’t understand towel, so they will say, ‘okay!’  and give you the coffee and bag. When you say ‘I am in room 103, please ask cleaner to change bedsheet.’ The second you turn away, she won’t know what room you’re in and she won’t ask again. By the way, you can’t call guest service in your room, this is NOT A HOTEL. JUST A simple small room with no space and NOTHING! YOU ARE JUST RENTING A ROOM! there is only 1 small bottle of water. You want more water? NO! Sorry! No water! You can buy from the restaurant downstairs! And when you ask to ‘change the bedsheet’, they literally will just change the BEDSHEET and the other pillow case and duvet cover, sorry they won’t change! I HAVE TO ASK THREE TIMES FOR THE ENTIRE BEDDINGS TO BE CHANGED! FIRST TIME NOTHING CHANGED AT ALL, and the beddings was so dirty that I COULD NOT SLEEP FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT! The next day, after I went out and came back to the room, realised she didn’t change the beddings so I asked the reception for the cleaner to come up to my room and change it, and when I open the door, she was standing outside and staring straight into my eyes and asked, ‘WHAT?!’ So I decided to tell her that she can change it the next day. Because I felt like she was about to lose it. IN THE EVENING, i wanted a towel, SORRY! NO TOWELS! BECAUSE NO CLEANERS ARE AROUND SO THERE IS NO TOWELS FOR YOU!the picture of the bathroom which I showed you was taken 1.5 hours after the shower and half dried. Infl fact when you come out of the shower, the whole floor is flooded! And STINKS! When the cleaner cleans the room, she only cleans half of the toilet and tucks in your bed and nothing else. The floor is not cleaned and even the coffee is just left there and no one changed the cup for you, no one filled coffee packets or teabag. Basically you have nothing. And whenever you ask for something, they will simply say no. For example if you want to delay checkout for 1 hr, they will be saying ‘NO! SOMEONE NEEDS THE ROOM!’ And you see, the shower head corner has a metal piece that stuck up right at the corner and I had a deep cut which now after four days the scar is still there.  If you still decide to check into this hotel, you deserve to be treated like a clown."

"This hostel has got a lot going for it. The people are extremely kind and helpful. All the facilities are clean and up to date. The free breakfast was spectacular for such an economical rate. Finally the location of it is great. You won't find any accommodations as inexpensive as The School that are so close to both the Old City, where all the religious sites are, and the trendy Jaffa St. area with lots of shopping and restaurants."

"The atmosphere was wonderful from the moment we walked in. We ourselves are not religious so we had to slightly accomodate the fellow hotel atendees. The service could have been better as we had to ask 3 times for water to be delivered to our room. The room itself was beautiful, clean, and food was great We are very likely to return."
