We stayed as a couple at the YNCA Hotel for a long weekend. While the hotel itself was generally fine, our experience with the breakfast was extremely disappointing.
We had booked and paid for breakfast in advance. Upon check-in, we were told there was a “temporary problem” in the hotel kitchen, and that breakfast would be served at the cafeteria in the adjacent sports complex.
The breakfast there was poor in quality and variety — very limited selection, unappealing presentation, and missing basic items such as coffee, milk, sweeteners, and fresh vegetables. The food was neither fresh nor tasty.
After speaking both with the cafeteria staff and later with the hotel reception, we learned that this was not a temporary situation at all. In fact, the hotel kitchen has been closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the hotel has not operated its own dining room since then. This was never mentioned to us in advance, and new guests are apparently told it is just a temporary issue.
This lack of transparency and the poor quality of the outsourced breakfast were very disappointing and left us feeling misled.
