It's been six years since my last visit to Hokkaido, and I'm finally back in my favorite place, embarking on a long-awaited journey to Eastern Hokkaido!
On the first day, we decided to head straight to Kushiro and check into the Kushiro Prince Hotel for convenience with our后续 itinerary.
It was about a 10-minute walk from JR Kushiro Station to the hotel with our luggage. The main issue was the heavy snow and ice on the roads. We weren't wearing ice cleats, so we had to walk very carefully.
The Kushiro Prince Hotel clearly has an older, traditional style, and the facilities are quite dated. Check-in was quick, and there wasn't much interaction with the front desk, perhaps due to a language barrier? However, they did try their best to answer any questions we had. We had a standard twin room; it wasn't large, but big enough for two large suitcases. There was no separate wet and dry area in the bathroom, likely due to space constraints. I'm not sure why there was no complimentary bottled water.
The hotel's main advantage is its convenient location. The Akan Bus stop is right outside the hotel to the right. Everyone was lining up early. We checked out about 10 minutes beforehand, and since we didn't want to wait outside in the cold, we ended up at the back of the line.
Kushiro is the starting point of this Eastern Hokkaido trip. Our packed itinerary is about to begin, and I'm a little excited and a little nervous!"

"We booked this hotel for its proximity to the Kushiro train station and bus station (these were just opposite the hotel) which saved us the walking in snowy conditions. The triple room we booked was surprisingly bigger than I would imagine for a typical Japanese hotel. We tried the hotel breakfast and it was good for value and have a spread of food choices. The staff were friendly and despite of language barrier, we managed to be able to request for assistance. I would like to thank Ryoyo for his help in checking for alternative bus to Sapporo due to train suspension and he further helped to contact our Sapporo hotel to inform that we will arrive later due to unforeseen train suspension. As per other reviews about the attitude of the hotel staff, I personally feel that they are really helpful but might appear rude to foreigners as they are not good at expressing themselves. The hotel has a manga corner and amenities shelf which you can grab special hair amenities and other types of pillows. There is also free washing machine which my husband used it daily to wash his clothes, free onsen and coffee. Overall, this hotel has great amenities and facilities. The famous tourist attractions were within walking distance from the hotel (MOO/ EGG/ Nusamai Bridge about 15-20mins walk)."

"Although it's not a hot spring hotel, the bathrooms in the hotel rooms are very thoughtfully designed. There's a variety of bath salts to choose from in the lobby, followed by a larger bathtub with a faucet next to it, just like in a hot spring, so you can wash yourself clean before soaking in the tub. "My stay this time was far from smooth. I booked a 17 sqm room, but upon arrival, the hotel said it wasn't available and offered a 13-15 sqm room instead, with no refund for the downgrade – absolutely unheard of! I've only ever known hotels to offer free upgrades when the booked room isn't available, never a downgrade without a refund. I arrived at 12 PM and, after being told my booked room was unavailable, I contacted Trip.com. I was met by 'Xiao Hong,' the most unhelpful customer service agent I've ever encountered. Despite calling multiple times over 5 hours, there was no feedback, and she repeatedly delayed responding, costing me dozens of yuan in call fees. Frustrated, I requested a new agent, and the issue was resolved by a supervisor in less than 15 minutes, finally demonstrating the level of service I expect from Trip.com. As a 16-year Trip.com Diamond member, I choose to book through them over other OTA platforms like ** (removed specific OTA name), even paying a bit more, precisely because of their customer service's ability to handle emergencies. "The hotel's location is excellent; it's a two-minute walk straight ahead after turning left from the JR station. There's a bus stop and a sightseeing bus pick-up point right outside the entrance. "I had an urgent need to go to Kushiro and stayed overnight without meals. There's a parking lot, but it's not very spacious. Even with a kei car, the width is just barely enough to park, but it's manageable. I appreciate that there's no charge for parking. At the reception, they need to note down your car's license plate number. It's close to the station. I went to a public bathhouse. You can choose from a small selection of pillows. Also, the room uses a traditional key, not a card key. The downside, given the cheap price, is that the walls are thin, so you can hear sounds from other rooms."

We arrived at Akan Lake Onsen Town around 3 PM via the White Bus. Since La Vista is a bit further out, the White Bus drops off guests staying there at the Akan Lake Bus Center, from where guests then take the hotel shuttle. Among our fellow passengers, some had pre-arranged a 3:30 PM shuttle via email with the hotel, but despite craning their necks, the shuttle was nowhere in sight. So I called them, and they said it would be there in 5 minutes. That basically confirmed it for me: the La Vista shuttle won't come unless you call them… because the hotel is only a 5-minute drive from the bus center. The small van was completely full, and even though the road was covered in ice and snow, the driver's skills were quick, accurate, and steady, getting us to the hotel swiftly.
Check-in was a bit slow, but I wasn't in a rush. I took my time to admire the floor-to-ceiling windows and the view outside – a lake, trees, snow, and small animals, all quiet and beautiful. The lobby, though not large, was decorated warmly and comfortably. After 5 PM, they offer complimentary drinks and snacks here.
Our room was spacious with an amazing view. Sitting quietly by the window, watching the snowflakes fall, I wished time would slow down even more. The atmosphere at La Vista is truly romantic~
The bathroom also offered direct views of the outside scenery. The room's facilities, layout, and amenities were all excellent, with comfortable colors and a novel, super spacious style.
La Vista has three private onsen baths, no reservations needed – you can just enter if it's not occupied. The Free Lounge offers a variety of complimentary beverages.
Perhaps it's because La Vista is a bit more secluded that it can create such a wonderful environment and ambiance. For those who haven't booked the buffet, make sure to stock up on food in advance, as it's pretty much wilderness around here.
Aside from a slight complaint about the shuttle, I was very satisfied with the hotel's facilities and environment. If I have the chance, I'd love to spend 2-3 days here immersing myself in it – it would surely help me forget a lot of worries.

I stayed in the main building, which unfortunately doesn't have a lake view, but apparently the annex offers one! The underground onsen (hot spring) has a nice layout with multiple pools. It took about two hours to get here by bus from Kushiro.

MMockingjay 1stHonestly, I was quite impressed the first time I stayed here because it was so much better than the Gyozenmizu Hotel, where I usually stay (though there's often a big price difference between the two). At the very least, it was genuinely clean and hygienic, unlike Gyozenmizu's rather lackadaisical approach to cleanliness. The hotel facilities here are also much more thoughtfully designed; at least the door frames aren't under 1.8 meters! Is being tall in Japan a mistake? However, on my second stay, the showerhead was broken, barely spraying any water. By the way, in Hokkaido, outside of Sapporo and Otaru, no matter how nice the hotel or how big the room, the bathroom within the room is always terrible...

GGuest UserThis hotel holds so much promise. Excellent location by Lake Akan. Staff were generally helpful and courteous although English not really understood here. The rooms with the Lake View had marvellous views but the condition of the room and bathroom were really In need of an upgrade or total retrofit. Furniture was worn out and sofas soft and sunk in. But the worst is the bathroom. The shower head was so tiny that you really could not take a shower in the room. The bathroom basin did not have a mixer thus you cant have proper warm water when needed. The basin and bathtub looks so old I do not think anyone would use it. The public bath was at most average. What irked ne was the inconsistency of the temperature of the shower water. Youre having a hot shower and the water will turn cold before turning back to hot again. Buffet breakfast was catered to tour groups and nothing to write home about. We were there 2 nights and breakfast was exactly the same stuff. Dinner was average at best. We just feel that Gozensui has so much potential. I would not stay here again unless I know of changes and improvements to its rooms and bathrooms.

GGuest UserWe took a tour bus directly to the New Akan Hotel. The hotel is very grand, and although it's a bit old, it's very well-maintained with a European-American style decor. I booked a Japanese-style lake view room in advance, and the size was definitely larger than what was stated in the description, at least 30+ square meters. The indoor and outdoor onsen, all-you-can-eat dining, and service were all excellent. The location is superb, close to both the onsen street and the ice mountain attractions. There are two minor drawbacks: the dinner includes a buffet yakiniku, and the smell can't be dissipated, so the entire public area smells like it... thankfully, the rooms are fine. Also, as many have mentioned, there are a lot of tour groups, all from Taiwan, so the hotel is crowded everywhere you go. You need to plan your meals and onsen visits to avoid peak times. Despite this, the hotel's order is still quite good. The internal shops are not tax-free. If I have the chance to come again, I would still choose this hotel, but I'd try to avoid the times when there are large tour groups, as the environment is quite important when you're on vacation!

You have to reserve motorcycle parking, which costs 300 yen per day, but it's underground so you don't have to worry about rain.
There was no air conditioning, but having the windows open was enough.
