"February 2026, Hokkaido – The Life I've Always Dreamed Of in Eastern Hokkaido! It's been six years since my last visit to Hokkaido, and I'm finally back in my favorite place, embarking on a long-awaited journey to Eastern Hokkaido! On the first day, we decided to head straight to Kushiro and check into the Kushiro Prince Hotel for convenience with our后续 itinerary. It was about a 10-minute walk from JR Kushiro Station to the hotel with our luggage. The main issue was the heavy snow and ice on the roads. We weren't wearing ice cleats, so we had to walk very carefully. The Kushiro Prince Hotel clearly has an older, traditional style, and the facilities are quite dated. Check-in was quick, and there wasn't much interaction with the front desk, perhaps due to a language barrier? However, they did try their best to answer any questions we had. We had a standard twin room; it wasn't large, but big enough for two large suitcases. There was no separate wet and dry area in the bathroom, likely due to space constraints. I'm not sure why there was no complimentary bottled water. The hotel's main advantage is its convenient location. The Akan Bus stop is right outside the hotel to the right. Everyone was lining up early. We checked out about 10 minutes beforehand, and since we didn't want to wait outside in the cold, we ended up at the back of the line. Kushiro is the starting point of this Eastern Hokkaido trip. Our packed itinerary is about to begin, and I'm a little excited and a little nervous!"

"We booked this hotel for its proximity to the Kushiro train station and bus station (these were just opposite the hotel) which saved us the walking in snowy conditions. The triple room we booked was surprisingly bigger than I would imagine for a typical Japanese hotel. We tried the hotel breakfast and it was good for value and have a spread of food choices. The staff were friendly and despite of language barrier, we managed to be able to request for assistance. I would like to thank Ryoyo for his help in checking for alternative bus to Sapporo due to train suspension and he further helped to contact our Sapporo hotel to inform that we will arrive later due to unforeseen train suspension. As per other reviews about the attitude of the hotel staff, I personally feel that they are really helpful but might appear rude to foreigners as they are not good at expressing themselves. The hotel has a manga corner and amenities shelf which you can grab special hair amenities and other types of pillows. There is also free washing machine which my husband used it daily to wash his clothes, free onsen and coffee. Overall, this hotel has great amenities and facilities. The famous tourist attractions were within walking distance from the hotel (MOO/ EGG/ Nusamai Bridge about 15-20mins walk)."

"Stayed at The Forest Akan Tsuruga Resort for three nights during our visit to Lake Akan. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the lakeside, Ainu Kotan, visitor centre, restaurants, Kamuy Lumina, and many of the area's attractions. It made exploring Lake Akan very convenient without needing transportation. The hotel itself has a warm, cozy atmosphere that blends nicely with the surrounding nature. Breakfast was especially enjoyable, with local favourites such as sweet shrimp sashimi and natto. While our initial room was not quite ideal for our personal preferences, the staff were helpful in assisting us with a room change, and we ended up in a room that suited us much better. Their assistance was greatly appreciated. One small observation is that during our three-night stay, the buffet menu remained largely the same each day. While the food was good, we found ourselves becoming a little repetitive by the second and third day. Guests staying for a longer period may appreciate a bit more variation in the menu. The hotel also offers a public bath, although we did not use it during our stay, so I am unable to provide any comments or review on that facility. One thing worth noting is that the hot spring bathing tax is still charged as part of the stay, regardless of whether guests choose to use the public bath facilities. Another plus is the coin-operated laundry facilities, which are very useful for travellers staying several days or moving between destinations. What I enjoyed most was using the hotel as a base to experience Lake Akan. During our stay we explored the forests, visited Ainu Kotan, walked the Kamuy Lumina trail, took the sightseeing cruise, visited the Marimo Exhibition and Observation Center, spotted deer and foxes, and enjoyed beautiful lake views. On our final evening, the weather was perfect. We watched the sunset over Lake Akan and later enjoyed a sky full of stars. It was a memorable way to end our stay. Overall, The Forest Akan Tsuruga Resort is a comfortable and convenient base for exploring Lake Akan and the surrounding area. Thank you for a pleasant stay."

"February 2026, Eastern Hokkaido – The Life I Dream Of~ We arrived at Akan Lake Onsen Town around 3 PM via the White Bus. Since La Vista is a bit further out, the White Bus drops off guests staying there at the Akan Lake Bus Center, from where guests then take the hotel shuttle. Among our fellow passengers, some had pre-arranged a 3:30 PM shuttle via email with the hotel, but despite craning their necks, the shuttle was nowhere in sight. So I called them, and they said it would be there in 5 minutes. That basically confirmed it for me: the La Vista shuttle won't come unless you call them… because the hotel is only a 5-minute drive from the bus center. The small van was completely full, and even though the road was covered in ice and snow, the driver's skills were quick, accurate, and steady, getting us to the hotel swiftly. Check-in was a bit slow, but I wasn't in a rush. I took my time to admire the floor-to-ceiling windows and the view outside – a lake, trees, snow, and small animals, all quiet and beautiful. The lobby, though not large, was decorated warmly and comfortably. After 5 PM, they offer complimentary drinks and snacks here. Our room was spacious with an amazing view. Sitting quietly by the window, watching the snowflakes fall, I wished time would slow down even more. The atmosphere at La Vista is truly romantic~ The bathroom also offered direct views of the outside scenery. The room's facilities, layout, and amenities were all excellent, with comfortable colors and a novel, super spacious style. La Vista has three private onsen baths, no reservations needed – you can just enter if it's not occupied. The Free Lounge offers a variety of complimentary beverages. Perhaps it's because La Vista is a bit more secluded that it can create such a wonderful environment and ambiance. For those who haven't booked the buffet, make sure to stock up on food in advance, as it's pretty much wilderness around here. Aside from a slight complaint about the shuttle, I was very satisfied with the hotel's facilities and environment. If I have the chance, I'd love to spend 2-3 days here immersing myself in it – it would surely help me forget a lot of worries."

"Free drinks at reception was great but no water was supply in the room. Was told either tap water or got to buy. Not sure why they provide free drinks downstairs but not water in the room . The epsom salt for bath was great. Parking need to pay which was quite disappointing especially in these area"

"Great hotel but very little English spoken by the staff. Location is convenient for fast food and Fisherman’s Wharf and farmers market. A word of advice. Choose a larger room. I was there for several days and appreciated the extra room. I saw some of their standard room and they sure looked a bit small. Kuchiro is a compact city and easy to walk around on foot. This is a nice hotel. Restaurant is good, but breakfast buffet has very small potions to take. They are also very strict on their closing time. They expect you out when the restaurant is set to close. All in all I think the best choice in Kuchiro."

"Kushiro isn't a big city, so there's not much to explore. For a one-night stay, this hotel was truly faultless! The room was a standard Japanese-style room, with just enough space to open one suitcase. Downstairs, there's a self-service coffee and tea station, and on each floor, you can choose your own pillow. The breakfast was excellent, and I especially loved the miso soup – it was packed with ingredients and delicious, plus they had Hokkaido milk! Parking is conveniently located right across from the hotel. There seemed to be many restaurants, but in winter, some were closed, and it was really cold, so we didn't venture too far. In summary: the staff were incredibly friendly, and for a one-night stay, it was absolutely perfect."

"The room was fantastic! I felt like I got my money's worth just from the buffet – I stayed for 4 days and gained 1kg! Soaking in the hot springs twice a day was incredibly relaxing. The ice activities on Lake Akan were a lot of fun. There's a free shuttle to the Lake Akan Ski Resort, where I skied for 3 days and finally got the hang of it. This stay was incredibly good value for money."

"The hotel boasts an excellent location. In the evenings, there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity. After dinner, it's a pleasant walk from the hotel to Nusamai Bridge for a stroll, and Fisherman's Wharf is just about a 10-minute walk from there. Guests can then return to the hotel to relax in the hot springs. The rooms are also very comfortable. While the breakfast spread at the hotel wasn't extensive, the quality was good. If I ever visit Kushiro again, I would definitely choose this hotel."
