Haha, this hotel definitely requires a bit of an adventurous spirit to stay at! It was built in 1926, so it's celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In the lobby restaurant, there's a very old manual plug-in switchboard. The hotel's past life probably wasn't as a hotel; it gives off more of a government archives vibe 😂. The room facilities are a bit dated, especially the carpet, but there's a certain echo of the 1950s. The bathroom is quite small, and the shower area, in particular, seems like it would be a squeeze for anyone a bit larger. Canberra gets really cold, so it was a thoughtful touch that the hotel provided extra blankets. Overall, I think you need to have a bit of a nostalgic appreciation to truly enjoy this kind of hotel. The service, however, was quite good.

We stayed for the Canberra Marathon Festival. The location was close to the main event area, and there is a cafe and a foodstore close by.
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable. The area is quiet but there are a few restaurant's and bars along the lake about a 10-minute walk away. Uber's were always only a minute away. We had a great time seeing the sights, a lot of them are within walking distance from the hotel.

Guest UserWith only a 10 minute uber to the city and amazing airport access this hotel easily finds a place on my will stay again. Although for breakfast believe there could've been more of a wider selection of food. The 24 hour self serve is amazing for anyone needing that support outside of business hours.

Anonymous Userclean room and comfy bed. there are only 2 floors and our room is next to a round about and noise during the day could be quite loud. the hotel decor is not so modern with a bath tub and only a shower screen covering half of it so after showers the bathroom floor is completely wet. breakfast was great and staff at the restaurant were patient and attentive to the needs of customers. hotel staff were helpful and service was good overall except that when we checked out the front desk lady was first reluctant to get staff to check my room but told me if anything is missing from the minibar it will be charged to our card and that we have signed an agreement. of course if we have consumed anything we are happy to pay but we would like the room checked when we are still in the hotel premises rather than being told a day later a dozen drinks have gone missing. I wonder why she did not understand my request. she wasn't rude but what she said could be offensive to some people.

Guest UserStayed here for night woth a friend. They had breakfast included with our stay, which was nice. The staff are all really friendly and accommodating. This place is also a short walk to the light rail and other restaurants/cafes around the CBD which was great.

Good hotel with decent amenities and an excellent location, but the staff experience was extremely disappointing. We were travelling with a young child and requested a late checkout. They informed us it would be $30 to extend beyond 10 AM, so we agreed. We checked out at 11:45 AM, only to find they had charged $60, which felt unreasonable and misleading.
On top of that, housekeeping knocked 3-4 times, and their behaviour was shockingly rude. One staff member even said, “You have 2 minutes, just get out in 2 minutes,” which was completely unprofessional. I’ve stayed in many hotels and have never encountered staff speaking or behaving like this.
0/5 for staff behaviour.
If you care about service, I strongly recommend choosing a more reputable hotel. If you’re on a tight budget and only want to stay near Parliament and don’t mind compromising on service, then this place might work - but be prepared for poor staff interactions.

We can hear people next door talking as we were arranged to stay at a connecting room. The door crack is so wide that we can hear people next door talking which gives a sense of insecurity. It is suggested that the door crack should be fixed, for the privacy of people staying at the two rooms who do not know each other.

Guest UserThe room was spacious and bed big and comfortable. The view was right to the pool area. The pool was heated nice and warm, big gym with great selection of equipment . The breakfast was good, but the coffee included was nothing special no barista coffee.
