If you have lived in Singapore for a while, you have probably seen the NETS FlashPay card at MRT stations, convenience stores and other payment points. It used to be one of the convenient ways to pay for public transport but things have changed since 2024.

Today, NETS FlashPay can no longer be used to pay for MRT and public fares. However, the card is still available and can be used for other everyday payments including retail purchases, F&B and motoring expenses.

NETS FlashPay Overview

NETS FlashPay

NETS FlashPay is a contactless value card issued by NETS. Instead of linking every payment directly to your bank account, you load money onto the card and use the stored value for eligible transactions.

NETS describes FlashPay as a contactless stored value card that can be used for transportation, retail, F&B and motoring needs. However, its public transport function has since been phased out.

For Singaporeans, FlashPay can still be useful if you want a separate stored value card for certain everyday payments or motoring expenses.

Can NETS FlashPlay Still Be Used for MRT and Buses?

No.

NETS FlashPay stopped being accepted for public transport from 1 June 2024 as Singapore phased out the old card based on ticketing system for adult commuters.

FlashPay users were encouraged to exchange their cards for NETS Prepaid Cards during the 2024 exchange programme.

This means you should not buy a NETS FlashPay card expecting to use it for your daily MRT or bus rides.

NETS FlashPay Usage in Singapore

NETS FlashPay

Although FlashPay is no longer a public transport card, it still has several uses.

Retail and F&B Payments

You can use NETS FlashPay at participating NETS FlashPay acceptance points for eligible purchases.

This can include everyday spending at participating retailers and F&B outlets. NETS promotions have also continued to feature FlashPay alongside other NETS payment methods at participating merchants.

Look out for the NETS FlashPay logo at the payment terminal before tapping your card.

ERP and Car Park Payments

FlashPay can also be used for certain motoring payments.

NETS states that FlashPay can be used for ERP charges, car park payments and vehicle tolls at Singapore's Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. For ERP, the card is inserted into a compatible 2nd Generation In Vehicle Unit.

For car parks, payment can work through the vehicle's IU or by tapping the card on the car park reader, depending on the car park's system.

However, drivers should take note of the equipment requirements before relying on FlashPay for motoring payments.

The price of a NETS FlashPay card depends on the card design and promotion.

For example, NETS currently lists its Tappy's Day Out Limited Edition NETS FlashPay Cards at S$10 each, including S$5 stored value. These cards are available while stocks last.

Regular or promotional card prices may vary, so it is best to check the latest NETS listing before purchasing.

The important thing to remember is that the amount you pay for the card and the stored value included with it are not necessarily the same thing.

Where to Buy NETS FlashPay in Singapore

NETS FlashPay is still available for purchases in Singapore, although the places where you can buy it have changed.

According to NETS, FlashPay cards are no longer sold at TransLink Ticket Office located at bus interchanges and MRT stations. However, they can still be purchased at Passenger Service Centres at rail lines, except the Thomson Coast Line, as well as selected convenience stores.

These convenience stores include: 7-Eleven, Cheers, FairPrice Xpress, Buzz Pods, Hao Mart. Availability can depend on card design and stock especially for limited edition cards.

NETS FlashPay Top Up Guide

NETS FlashPay

You can top up your NETS FlashPay using several methods.

One convenient options is the NETS App. If your smartphone supports NFC, you can hold the FlashPay card against the back of your phone and complete the top up through the app.

Top Up Using the NETS App

NETS states that the app can also be used to check your FlashPay balance, expiry date and transaction history.

You do not need to sign in to the NETS App for a one time FlashPay top up.

The basic process is:

  1. Open the NETS App.
  2. Select Top Up under NETS FlashPay or Motoring Card.
  3. Hold your FlashPay card against the back of your phone.
  4. Select your top up amount.
  5. Enter or select your credit or debit card.
  6. Complete the payment verification.
  7. Hold the FlashPay card against your phone again to complete the top up.

How Much Can You Top Up?

The minimum top up amount for NETS FlashPlay is S$5.

If you frequently use FlashPay for motoring or retail payments, keeping a reasonable balance can save you from having to top up repeatedly.

Can NETS FlashPay Auto Top Up

Yes. NETS FlashPay supports an Auto Top Up facility which automatically adds stored value when your balance become insufficient subject to applicable registration and conditions.

You can register for Auto Top Up through NETS and link an eligible credit or debit card as the funding service.

It is useful for driver who use FlashPay for ERP and car park payments and do not want to worry about running out of stored value.

How to Check Your NETS FlashPay Balance

You can check your FlashPay balance through the NETS App using an NFC enabled phone.

Simply open the relevant FlashPay card function and hold your physical card against the back of your phone. The app can show your card balance, expiry date and recent transaction history.

You can also check transaction through supported NETS self service facilities and selected bank ATMs.

This is an honest review of Carlton Hotel Singapore, where my mother and I stayed in the second week of August! I'll summarize what I felt during my stay. Floor: I requested a high floor when booking, but unfortunately, it wasn't accommodated, and we were assigned the 8th floor. However, the room condition was pleasant, so we didn't experience much inconvenience during our stay. Bed Type: The room type was an Executive Room. We requested twin beds so my mom and I could sleep comfortably, and they provided a room with two beds, which was perfect. The bedding was fresh, and the mattress was soft, so we slept soundly every night. Deposit & Cancellation Period: A deposit of $200 (SGD) is authorized upon check-in. Even if you use paid services, they are not deducted from the deposit; you pay for them separately upon check-out. It's been about 3 days since we checked out, and the deposit cancellation hasn't been processed yet, likely because it's an overseas authorization. It usually takes a few days to 1-2 weeks depending on the card company, so it's best to wait patiently. Bathroom & Amenities: Toothpaste and toothbrushes were provided, and shampoo, body wash, and conditioner were well-stocked, which we used comfortably throughout our stay. A hairdryer was also available. Cleaning & Refill: If you press the 'Please Clean Up' switch in the room, they will clean the room and replenish water, towels, toothpaste, and toothbrushes generously every time. Tip for Bedding Change: If you want to have the bed sheets completely changed, make sure to place the green sign provided in the room on the bed, and they will replace them with fresh bedding. Upon arriving at night, the magnificent glass chandelier stretching across the lobby ceiling immediately caught my eye. The high ceiling and luxurious feel made a great first impression. The swimming pool is quite small. However, Singapore's weather is extremely hot and humid, so people were constantly in the water regardless of the time of day. It was sufficient for cooling down and chilling out lightly during the day or evening. Gym: Across the swimming pool, there's a gym. It was clean and a simple hotel gym, perfect for a light workout. Breakfast/Hotel Dining: I didn't book breakfast because of the pressure to wake up early to eat breakfast when traveling. Instead of using the hotel's breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffets, we creatively handled our meals with delivery food and restaurants in nearby shopping malls. Raffles City Shopping Mall: The Raffles City shopping mall right next to the hotel was incredibly convenient! The restaurant and food court options were so good that we often went to Raffles City for our meals during our stay. Room Service: On the first night, we arrived at the hotel around 10-11 PM and were tired, so we ordered room service. The food tasted really delicious and satisfying, but as expected with Singapore prices, it was quite expensive. The taste is guaranteed, so it might be nice to use it once for a treat! Location & Transportation: On the map, I thought Merlion Park was within walking distance, but Singapore's August weather was hotter and more humid than I imagined, so walking was definitely not an option. Instead, there were well-located bus stops near the hotel, and we consistently took buses to major attractions, including Merlion Park. The routes were so well-established that we got around very conveniently. When it's hot, always use public transport! This was a trip with my mom, and thanks to the nearby shopping mall, meals were convenient. Overall, it was a satisfying hotel stay. I recommend it to anyone looking for a well-located accommodation in the heart of Singapore.

These thoughtful touches truly made our celebration extra meaningful. The hotel’s location is also extremely convenient, right in the downtown area. Marina Bay Sands is just a short 5-minute train ride away, making it easy for us to explore and enjoy the surrounding attractions. The Club Lounge offered a wonderful international spread with a good variety of food and beverages. We particularly appreciated the diverse drinks selection, ranging from refreshing wellness drinks to signature cocktails, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. Front Desk: I booked four nights at Fullerton Hotel this time. As I booked quite late, the four days were split into three different reservations with two room types. Upon arrival at the front desk, we were greeted by a friendly lady with short hair and glasses. She was very helpful and actively tried to arrange a single room for us so we wouldn't have to switch, but due to the high occupancy, she couldn't make it happen. She informed us that we'd have to switch rooms after the first two nights, which we understood. A really great gesture was that this lady upgraded our room type for all four days. We had originally booked three nights in a Courtyard Club room and one night in a regular Suite. She managed to get us upgraded to Club rooms with impressive bay views. Especially on the second night, we stayed in a Loft Suite, which was huge and came with a terrace. We could sit on the terrace sofa and enjoy the bay night view and the Marina Bay Sands building. In the evening, the hotel even sent up champagne, chocolates, and fruit, which made my child incredibly happy! A big thank you to this short-haired front desk lady for giving us the opportunity to experience a better room type at the hotel! I won't comment on the other front desk staff; some seemed a bit aloof and haughty, haha! Dining: The breakfast was comprehensive, with various Chinese, Western, and Indian options. My child particularly loved the laksa noodles and steamed egg custard, while I enjoyed the freshly made omelets. The old chef making the omelets was very versatile, speaking English, Chinese, and Japanese. I chatted with him, and he mentioned he used to be a Japanese chef. The omelets were delicious and could be loaded with many ingredients! Our room type included executive lounge access, but we were out exploring every day and only made it for afternoon tea once! Room: The cleaning was meticulous, and we had turndown service every night. The bathroom was large, but the toothbrushes shed bristles, so we unfortunately had to buy two new toothbrushes from the 7-11 across the street. Location: Unbeatable! You can tell from the photos. It's very close to Raffles Place MRT station, Marina Bay is right in front of you, and it's also a historic building. Just across the bridge is the Asian Civilisations Museum, and within walking distance are attractions like Clarke Quay and the Old Hill Street Police Station! Overall Impression: The hotel had a lot of Western guests, and the service was Westernized, which was generally good! Finally, the hotel bill showed a charge of 26.98 SGD. I was in a hurry to leave and didn't check it carefully at the time. I only noticed the charge after returning home and wasn't sure what it was for, but since it wasn't much money, I didn't inquire further.

The hotel is ideally located and exceptionally clean. Although the rooms are small, they are fully equipped with everything you need. One feature I especially loved was the water dispenser with adjustable temperature settings. It is incredibly convenient and a huge plus for anyone who loves drinking warm water, as you don't have to wait for a kettle to boil. This hotel offers incredible value for money! It's conveniently located right next to a police station, Fort Canning Park, a famous Bak Kut Teh restaurant, and a church. There's also a shopping mall downstairs, making dining super easy. The room was very clean, simple, and bright. While not huge, it was perfectly sufficient for two people traveling. We didn't get to fully explore Fort Canning Park downstairs due to the summer heat, but it's a large park with lush trees and a beautiful design, definitely worth a visit.

This hotel is super convenient, with a fantastic location right next to Tanjong Pagar MRT station, just one stop away from the main attractions. While the room isn't huge, it's pretty good value for money given it's in downtown Singapore. The street next to the hotel is definitely worth exploring in the evening – more interesting than the tourist spots, actually. The breakfast quality was decent, but there are so many good food options nearby that eating out is probably better value. The only hiccup was that they forgot to clean my room on the first night. I even spoke to a staff member when I left, but maybe they didn't catch my room number clearly. I followed up with the front desk on the second night, and it was cleaned well. On the third morning, they were waiting outside my door bright and early, so maybe it wasn't an intentional oversight. The lobby is on the 12th floor, with the reception on the 1st floor. The two Indian guys handling luggage storage were really friendly and cute. We communicated well, even when I didn't quite catch everything in their Indian-accented English.

Though you can hear what is happening along the corridor despite having door closed and locked (people walking/running, talking/laughing… all can be heard clearly). The hotel is very clean, and the staff are all very friendly and welcoming. When checking in, you just hand your luggage directly to the staff, and after you complete the check-in process on the fourth floor, someone will bring your luggage directly to your room. When checking out, you leave your luggage on the fourth floor, and then pick it up on the first floor when you're ready to leave, which is super convenient. The hotel also has drinking water available, so remember to fill up your water bottle before heading out. It's also close to two subway lines, making getting around very easy.

The loft room was perfect for a family of three with an older child! Loft 2 had a sofa bed on the second floor, which was a bit short – my 160cm tall feet just reached the edge. The swivel chair was also on the second floor, so on the first floor, you could only sit on the bed. However, the floor space was huge! We could fully open a 28-inch and a 20-inch suitcase without obstructing movement, which is incredibly practical in space-constrained Singapore! The loft was far from the elevator, so it was very quiet, and the air conditioning didn't blow directly on us. The bathroom water temperature was stable, and they provided conditioner and hand soap. The room amenities were also excellent, with a power outlet and a USB port on both the first floor and the loft that could directly accommodate Chinese plugs. The desk lamp in the loft even had a phone back-charging function – so convenient! There was a mini-fridge with free drinks and snacks replenished daily, and complimentary ice cream in the lobby from 3-6 PM. The front desk service was prompt, and there were Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk and in the restaurant during the day. The hotel's location is superb! It's only about a 300-meter walk to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, which is an interchange for three lines, making it incredibly convenient to get to all the attractions! In particular, Fort Canning Tree Tunnel is just a 10-minute walk away, so you can go early to avoid crowds and take photos at your leisure. Exit F of the MRT station leads to a large shopping mall with POPMART, Daiso, anime stores, many restaurants, and a local affordable supermarket, making dining and shopping very convenient. Citadines added wonderful memories to our 5-day Singapore trip! Highly recommended!!!

Overall, my stay was fantastic. The hotel's cleanliness, ambiance, and facilities were all excellent, making it highly recommendable. The only minor hiccup was with the breakfast information. On the first morning, I presented my Trip.com order, which clearly indicated breakfast for three, and the hotel confirmed it was updated in their system. However, on the second day, I was told again that breakfast wasn't included and had to show my order once more. I hope Trip.com and the hotel can achieve smoother order synchronization to prevent guests from repeatedly showing their booking details every day, thus avoiding unnecessary hassle. There's some ongoing infrastructure construction around the hotel, which does cause a bit of disruption, but that's beyond the hotel's control. Other than that, I was very satisfied with the overall experience and would definitely choose to stay here again if I have the chance.

First time visit to Singapore. Lovely hotel. Great location, bonus of an outdoor pool that we used early one morning. Rooms very clean, beds super comfy. Immaculately clean. All staff super friendly and helpful with recommendations and directions. Concierge’s always available to sort taxis and help too. Didn’t book breakfast as do many food options close by. Nice touch was at check in they brought out birthday muffins, not just for me but for my two teenagers too. Great introduction.What’s not to love? Will be back.

The location is excellent, close to transportation hubs, making taxis and public transport super convenient. The room was spacious and tidy, with meticulous cleaning details. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, and the toiletries were well-stocked. The bed was just the right firmness, and the soundproofing was good, so it was quiet at night, ensuring a high-quality rest. The front desk service was patient and efficient, responding promptly to any requests. The entire environment was clean and comfortable. It's suitable for both short layovers and longer stays, definitely worth recommending to everyone.

Can You Get a Refund From NETS FlashPay?

Yes, subject to NETS' refund rules and the condition of the card.

If you have an active or recently expired FlashPay card with remaining stored value, you may be able to request a refund through the available NETS refund channels.

For a faulty card, NETS states that customers can visit its Customer Service Centre for the card to be checked. If a refund is required, the remaining stored value can be credited to the designated bank account within the stated processing period.

What If You Lose NETS FlashPay Card?

This is important.

NETS states that a lost or stolen NETS FlashPay card is considered non retrievable and there is no refund for lost or stolen cards.

For most Singaporeans who are looking for a public transport card, no.

The biggest reason is simple: FlashPay no longer works for MRT and public bus fares. That was previously one of its main uses, but Singapore's public transport payment system has moved towards SimplyGo and contactless payment options.

However, FlashPay can still make sense if you specifically want a stored value card for retail, F&B or motoring payments.

Before buying or using a NETS FlashPay card, keep these points in mind

1. Do Not Use It as Your MRT Card

FlashPay has not been accepted for public transport such as buses and MRT since 1 June 2024.

2. Check the Card's Expiry Date
