Shenzhen Map Guide: Navigate Every District, Attraction & MRT Line Like a Local

Shenzhen Map

Shenzhen is a huge city, and understanding the map before your trip can make traveling around much easier.

Instead of treating Shenzhen as one central area, it helps to divide the city into several key zones.

Shenzhen's official administrative divisions are broader than the four areas covered in this guide.

The city also includes Bao'an, Longgang, Longhua, Pingshan, Guangming and other districts and administrative areas.

Understanding Shenzhen's Districts Overview

Shenzhen Map

For Singaporean travellers, Luohu and Futian are especially useful for first-time visits, while Nanshan is ideal for technology, modern attractions and coastal areas. If you want beaches, hiking and historic villages, head further east towards Yantian and Dapeng.

A quick look at Shenzhen's geography shows a city stretching from the Hong Kong border in the southeast towards Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in the northwest, with the city centre between them.

Luohu District: Shopping & Border Crossing

Luohu sits on the southeastern side of Shenzhen and directly borders Hong Kong. It is one of the most important areas for travellers arriving from Hong Kong because Luohu Port connects with Lo Wu Station on Hong Kong's MTR East Rail Line, while Shenzhen's Luohu Station is served by Metro Line 1.

The area is also known for shopping, dining and its older commercial neighbourhoods. Dongmen Old Street is one of the most popular places to explore, with shops, restaurants and street food.

For Singaporeans combining Hong Kong and Shenzhen in one trip, Luohu is particular convenient because of its border location.

Futian District: The CBD & Cultural Hub

Futian is located in central Shenzhen and is the city's main administrative and financial centre. The area is filled with modern skyscrapers, shopping malls, offices and cultural landmarks.

One of the most recognisable landmarks is Shenzhen Civic Centre, while Futian Station is an important transport hub.

Futian is also convenient for travellers using Shenzhen Metro. Line 1, Line 2/8, Line 3, Line 4, Line 10 and Line 11 connect through or around the central area, making it a practical base for sightseeing.

Nanshan District: Tech Innovation & Coastal Attractions

Nanshan sits on the western side of central Shenzhen and is one of the city's most modern areas. It is strongly associated with technology and innovation, while also offering plenty of attractions for tourists.

Popular places include Sea World, Window of the World, Shenzhen Talent Park and the Shekou waterfront. The Nanshan government also lists attractions such as Window of the World and Shenzhen Talent Park among the district's tourist highlights.

Nanshan is also well connected by metro. Line 11 connects Futian with Nanshan and Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, while Line 12 serves areas including Sea World and Nanshan.

Yantian District: East Coast Beaches & Dapeng Peninsula

Yantian is located along Shenzhen's southeastern coastline. Compared with Futian and Luohu, it feels more relaxed and is better suited to travellers looking for beaches, coastal scenery and outdoor activities.

Dameisha and Xiaomeisha are among the better-known coastal areas. Metro Line 8 also extends towards Yantian, making parts of the eastern coastline more accessible from the city centre.

However, it is important to distinguish Yantian from Dapeng New District. Dapeng is further east and is a separate administrative area, known for beaches, historic sites and nature.

Dapeng Peninsula: Shenzhen's Nature Escape

If you look towards the far southeastern corner of the Shenzhen map, you will find the Dapeng Peninsula.

This is where you can escape Shenzhen's skyscrapers and explore beaches, coastal villages, hiking areas and historic attractions. The official Shenzhen tourism website highlights destinations including Yangmeikeng and Xichong, while Dapeng's official tourism information includes Dapeng Fortress, Jiaochangwei and Pengcheng Village.

Dapeng is best planned as a separate day trip rather than something to squeeze between several central Shenzhen attractions.

Central Shenzhen: Futian & Luohu Highlights

If this is your first Shenzhen trip, start with the central areas.

Luohu is a good choice for travellers interested in shopping, food and the Hong Kong border. Dongmen Old Street is particularly convenient to combine with other Luohu attractions.

The Luohu government also highlights Dongmen Old Street, Luohu Port and several cultural attractions in its tourism information.

Futian offers a more modern side of Shenzhen, with the Civic Centre, large shopping malls and city parks.

A simple first-day route could be:

Luohu → Dongmen → Huaqiangbei → Futian → Civic Centre

This keeps your sightseeing within central Shenzhen instead of spending too much time travelling between distant districts.

West Shenzhen: Nanshan & Shekou's Best Spots

Head west when you want to see Shenzhen's modern, coastal side.

Start around the Window of the World and continue towards Nanshan or Shekou. If you prefer a slower evening, Sea World is a convenient area for restaurants, cafés and waterfront walks.

For families, Nanshan also has attractions and parks that can easily fill half a day or more.

The district government lists multiple attractions and leisure destinations across the area.

East Shenzhen: Dapeng Peninsula & Nature Escapes

The eastern side of Shenzhen is a completely different experience.

Instead of skyscrapers and shopping malls, expect beaches, mountains, historic villages and coastal scenery.

Dapeng Fortress is particularly interesting for travellers who want something beyond modern Shenzhen. The historic fortress dates to the Ming Dynasty and is described by the Dapeng government as one of the best-preserved military fortresses from that period in southeastern China.

For nature lovers, destinations such as Xichong Beach, Yangmeikeng and Dapeng Peninsula National Geopark are worth considering.

Whenever I travel from Shenzhen to Hong Kong, I almost always choose the Crowne Plaza Shenzhen Futian. Its main entrance is right by Futian High-Speed Railway Station, making it incredibly convenient to get around on foot. I usually book my high-speed rail tickets and hotel room all in one go through Ctrip. This time, they upgraded me to an Executive King Room in advance. The room was clean and tidy, offering a high-floor view of Coco Park. The facilities and equipment in the room were well-maintained, indicating that it had been renovated. The Wi-Fi was also sufficient for daily needs. It was quite convenient having a robot deliver food when I ordered takeout. What I particularly love is the hotel's gym, which takes up the entire fourth floor. The fitness equipment is comprehensive and plentiful, and there's an outdoor swimming pool too. It's truly a paradise for fitness enthusiasts! Every time I left, the concierge staff greeted me warmly, so the service was great. It's just a shame I was in a hurry this time and didn't opt for a room with breakfast; the restaurant looked quite busy, so I might try it next time. Overall, this hotel can definitely meet the needs of business travelers, and it will essentially be my top choice whenever I need to be in Futian for work.

Huanggang Port and Futian Port Shenzhen|3.55km from downtown
The Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen boasts an excellent location, ideal for frequent travelers between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Situated in the Futian Free Trade Zone, it's very close to the Futian and Huanggang Port immigration checkpoints, offering convenient access to Futian CBD and the Convention and Exhibition Center. Getting to Futian Station by taxi is also very easy. The guest rooms are spacious, and the Four Points' signature comfortable beds provide a great night's sleep. The rooms are clean and tidy, with complete bathroom facilities and stable internet. Some room types even offer river views. The soundproofing is good, ensuring a peaceful rest. Check-in at the front desk was efficient, and the service attitude was attentive. The breakfast buffet offers a rich variety of options, a good mix of Western and Chinese cuisine, including freshly made Cantonese dim sum like Chee Cheong Fun and Koay Teow. The food quality is consistently good, and the dining environment is comfortable. Hotel amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour gym, and ample parking space in the underground car park, including charging spots, which is very convenient for those traveling by car. As a Marriott five-star hotel, it offers good value for money overall. It's suitable for both business trips and travelers commuting between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. My stay was very satisfying, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Shenzhen.

I chose this hotel because I was going to Hong Kong 🇭🇰, and it was so convenient! It's just a 100-meter walk to Futian Railway Station, and the subway is also easily accessible. My child really wanted to take the subway, so we went to Hong Kong. The two round trips were really unpleasant. This place is part of China, yet you have to put up with the attitudes of the people there; they look so impatient, as if we mainlanders owe them something. Without our mainland fish, how would your economy grow? I'll never go there again. Shenzhen is much better, with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was good too 👍. Seeing Hong Kong people coming to Shenzhen to spend money, it makes you realize how much more affordable the mainland is. A bowl of noodles in Hong Kong costs over a hundred, and everything is expensive. I'll definitely come back to Shenzhen for food, drinks, and fun. Happy! There were no crowds at Disneyland during the summer vacation 🤗, and there will be fewer and fewer people in the future. Welcome to Shanghai Disneyland, where you don't have to deal with anyone's bad attitude; just let loose and have fun!

Service: Special thanks to Bella and her team! The Ritz's service attitude was satisfying, but due to objective renovation issues, construction noise could be heard on every floor (starting at 8:30 AM, even on weekends). Bella was very considerate in trying to resolve the issue, and I'm very grateful. I believe this also perfectly embodies the Ritz's 'Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen' philosophy. Facilities: The current Ritz-Carlton Shenzhen is definitely not in its best state. Even in the newly renovated rooms (renovation completed six months ago), there was still a faint smell of renovation. Running an air purifier made it tolerable. The new rooms are indeed spacious and well-maintained, with very new facilities. Pool: It's very small and the water is extremely shallow. Many people just walk across the pool, and there's no staff to stop them. The 'fire cloud' evening view is beautiful, but I wouldn't recommend it for serious swimmers. If you're just looking for a photo op, it's fine. Cigar Bar: The staff were very patient, but the quality of the cigars varied, and the cocktails were just average. Overall, as a first-time guest at the Ritz-Carlton Shenzhen, I found their service to be the best among hotels in the Futian district. However, objectively speaking, the renovation definitely detracted a few points from their 100-point service. I look forward to a better experience on my next stay at the Ritz! 🥂

This is an old hotel that's been around for decades, and you can tell that the furniture used back in the day was top-notch. The rooms are spacious, elegantly decorated, and well-equipped with various facilities. However, with time, it's a bit outdated now; the lack of smart toilets is a noticeable drawback. But on the bright side, the spacious rooms, elegant decor, and comprehensive facilities, along with meticulous cleaning, really allow us to sleep soundly and comfortably without a worry. I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out for the hotel's service and food! 👍 **Service:** It was Dragon Boat Festival, which coincided with my mother's birthday and Father's Day, so I came back to Shenzhen to celebrate with my parents. Since the booking was quite last-minute, I messaged the hotel, just hoping, to ask if they could arrange a birthday setup. The hotel staff readily agreed and did an amazing job with the birthday decorations! Upon arrival, we were informed that both rooms had been complimentary upgraded to high-floor deluxe rooms, and the birthday decorations inside the rooms were perfect! I'm incredibly satisfied! 😊 **Food:** Breakfast is served at the all-day dining restaurant, the Beer Bar on the 3rd floor. IHG members can move to the Prego Italian restaurant for a quieter atmosphere. The continental buffet breakfast offers a rich variety and excellent quality, including a noodle station and made-to-order omelets. The omelets and black truffle scrambled eggs were particularly amazing! For lunch, we used a dining voucher at the Fu Lin Men restaurant on the 2nd floor. Note that the voucher can only be used for à la carte stir-fries; it's not applicable for tea or dim sum, and cannot be combined with member discounts or group purchases. The dim sum at Fu Lin Men is excellent; the shrimp dumplings are smooth and tender, the tripe is crisp, and the stir-fries are consistently good. After using the voucher, the total cost for three people was 210 yuan, which was a very satisfying meal overall! 😋 Great value for money! I'll definitely consider staying here again next time I'm in Luohu!

The location is super convenient, but the facilities are quite old. Plus, with the construction of the large bridge/overpass, they work overtime late into the night, which can be noisy. Being close to the train station, when traffic jams, people honk their horns intentionally until very late, which is pretty loud. The pool, while not exceptional, is decent. However, an annual pass is a bit too expensive.

I've stayed at the Metropark Hotel Shenzhen multiple times, and its location is a huge advantage. It's within walking distance of Shaibu Metro Station and right next to the Dongmen shopping area, making it incredibly convenient for shopping, dining, and getting around. The front desk staff are efficient with check-ins and check-outs, and they're always polite and friendly. The rooms are spacious, well-maintained, and the bedding is soft and comfortable. The soundproofing is also quite good, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep even in a bustling area. Hot water supply is stable, and the internet speed for work is smooth. The hotel facilities are excellent, and there are plenty of dining options nearby. Whether for a business trip or a leisure visit to Shenzhen, it's a very reliable choice. A truly satisfying stay! The JW Marriott Hotel Shenzhen is indeed a top-tier hotel. The lobby exudes a light luxury and grand atmosphere, and the public areas are spotlessly clean. The staff at check-in were very professional and explained everything meticulously. The room layout was well-designed, the furnishings were exquisite, and the cleanliness was meticulously maintained—even the corners were sparkling clean. The mattress had just the right firmness, ensuring a sound sleep until morning. During my leisure time, strolling around the hotel was very pleasant, offering a tranquil and comfortable environment. The guest relations team proactively checked on our experience, and any issues were addressed promptly. The hotel restaurants offered a wide variety of dishes with fresh ingredients. I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen for a temporary business trip, and the attention to detail in their service left a lasting impression. Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, Max, the manager who assisted me with my previous check-in, immediately recognized me and provided exceptional service. His incredible memory for guests truly showcases the high-caliber service at luxury hotels. The guest room had an open layout, offering a nearly perfect stay and rest experience. The sofa lounge area, workspace, and sleeping area were clearly separated, creating a smooth flow that's ideal for business travelers. The bathroom featured a bathtub and a smart toilet, and all facilities were well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay during my business trip. Breakfast was at the FOO restaurant, which boasts a timeless 'old money' design that has stood the test of time. My favorite part was the seating experience; there were numerous semi-private 'booth' style seats that offered great comfort and allowed for an undisturbed dining experience. The breakfast selection was impressive, featuring everything from Kashi yogurt, a wide variety of bread options, freshly made wontons, to Chinese brewed flower teas. It's clear that the Four Seasons invests heavily in its dining offerings, making the early morning breakfast experience for a business trip truly satisfying.

Hisoar doesn’t feel like a 5-star hotel. The hair dryer is very old, the washer/dryer doesn’t dry, the elevator is very slow, and the floor creaks. Sound proofing between floors is poor. There was a huge black bag of trash left in the elevator lobby on my floor for the entire day. There are design issues like unusable windows that would open to another room? and awkwardly placed refrigerators that force you into the kitchen corner, behind the door, to use. The room is quite spacious, and the bedding is excellent. The sheets and pillows are very comfortable, so I slept exceptionally well. Getting a good night's sleep in a hotel is very important, and this is high praise indeed. The hotel's decor is stylish, making you feel relaxed the moment you walk in. Breakfast deserves a special mention; the variety is rich, and the taste is unparalleled. The Cantonese breakfast was delicious, and the egg rolls and eggs Benedict were also very good. The only downside is that if you go late for breakfast, you might have to queue, but there are plenty of seats, so even if there's a line, it moves quickly. The coffee and tea at breakfast are also excellent. Freya, Winky, and Monuca at the front desk are very thoughtful. They genuinely care if you're enjoying your stay and promptly address any issues that arise during check-in. The front desk for check-in is on the 33rd floor with a great view. The executive lounge is a nice place to relax and unwind. Afternoon tea consists of two types of cake and some beverages. Dinner is relatively simple but has everything you need, including a noodle bar, which shows a good effort. Overall, the stay was very comfortable, and I would choose this hotel again if I return. However, there are three minor drawbacks I must mention: 1. One side of the hotel faces a large construction site, so the view isn't great. There's not much the hotel can do about this, as it's already well-maintained, but the surrounding environment does detract a bit. Perhaps future stays could compensate for this view deficit. 2. Light leaks from one side of the curtains, which can slightly affect sleep. 3. For such a high-end hotel, the complimentary water was Nongfu Spring with a red cap. While Nongfu Spring is good, I feel an upgrade to the water would be more fitting. Hygene: The cleaning was very detailed and thorough. The cleaning staff were all smiles and greeted me warmly, which put me in a good mood. Service: Whether it was the concierge on the first floor or the staff in the executive lounge/breakfast restaurant, everyone was incredibly friendly and made me feel very comfortable.

The weather wasn't perfect for swimming, but we walked along the beach, which is nearby. They replenished the water daily, changed the towels, and cleaned the room. We thought we needed hooks for coats and bags in the hallway, and at least a small table in the room for a computer or for the family to have tea. Two adults and one child. The room size was very satisfactory, and we could even make tea. The environment was clean, new, and quiet. There was a complimentary sweet soup in the evening and breakfast in the morning. They paid attention to details, with an online concierge before and after check-in. We had a very comfortable stay. We'd definitely prefer this type of accommodation for future visits.

mall is right next to upperhills shopping mall with a variety of dining and shopping options but there is nothing much other than the mall. do note that the actual walk to the donggualing metro station is quite long underground. traffic conditions not great during peak hours in morning and evening. the didi sometimes take awhile to get to you if they somehow take a wrong turn. room is simply decorated in line with muji's style, no frills, not luxurious. not a large room though sufficient. Internet connection in the room can be spotty. fridge does not feel cold. lights in room are warm but i wished it was brighter in the bathroom. had a room facing the traffic and you can faintly hear it. overlooked a drone delivery area which was quite cool. service is warm and thoughtful.

Dongmen Food Street: A Must-Visit for Street Food

Dongmen Old Street is one of the best areas in central Shenzhen for travellers who want to try local snacks while exploring a lively shopping district.

You will find plenty of small food stalls, restaurants and dessert shops around the pedestrian streets. It is a good place to try different snacks in one visit rather than sitting down for a long meal.

Look out for popular Chinese street foods such as grilled skewers, dumplings, noodles, fried snacks and sweet treats. Come hungry and take your time walking around, as the area can get especially lively in the evening.

Luohu: Traditional Flavours

Located close to the Hong Kong border, Luohu is a convenient area to explore if you are entering Shenzhen through Luohu Port.

The neighbourhood has plenty of restaurants serving Cantonese-style dishes, dim sum, seafood and hotpot. It is also a practical place to stop for a meal before or after exploring Dongmen.

If you are travelling from Singapore, this is a good area to start with familiar Chinese flavours while also trying dishes that are less common back home.

Futian: Modern Dining and Food Hubs

Futian is one of Shenzhen's busiest commercial areas, so you will find a huge range of restaurants throughout the district.

Large shopping malls are particularly convenient for travellers because you can combine shopping, sightseeing and dining in the same area. Depending on the mall, you can find everything from Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine to hotpot, noodles, cafés and international restaurants.

For a more modern Shenzhen experience, plan your dinner around Futian's shopping and entertainment areas and explore the restaurants after sunset.

Tips for Eating in Shenzhen

  • Go during off-peak hours if you want to avoid long queues at popular restaurants.
  • Use food delivery and restaurant apps to check menus and reviews before visiting.
  • Keep some Chinese names saved on your phone when searching for specific dishes.
  • Try smaller portions when possible so you can sample several dishes during your trip.
  • Look around shopping malls for food courts if you are travelling with a group and everyone wants something different.
  • Save seafood for your coastal itinerary, especially when visiting Dapeng or other eastern areas.
  • Check restaurant opening hours before making a special trip, as operating hours can vary.

Practical Tips for Using a Shenzhen Map as a Singaporean Traveller

Xiaomeisha Resort
  1. Save the metro map before leaving Singapore. Shenzhen's network is extensive, and having the map offline can be useful when you do not have a stable connection.
  2. Check the Chinese name of your destination. Showing the Chinese name or address to a driver can make communication much easier.
  3. Choose the correct border crossing. Luohu, Futian, Huanggang and Liantang are different crossings, so check your route before heading to the border.
  4. Use the metro for longer city journeys. It is generally much easier than relying on taxis when travelling between major districts.
  5. Check your payment options before travelling. China has widely adopted mobile payments, but Singaporean travellers should set up their preferred international payment method before the trip and keep a backup option.
  6. Download or prepare the apps you need before arrival. Maps, translation, ride-hailing and payment apps can be much harder to set up if you wait until you arrive.
  7. Allow extra time for large stations. Shenzhen stations can be big, and walking from the platform to the correct exit can take longer than expected.
  8. Group attractions by district. Put Luohu and Futian together, Nanshan and Shekou together, and save Dapeng for a dedicated day. This is one of the easiest ways to reduce unnecessary travel.
  9. Check attraction opening hours before setting off. Popular attractions can have different operating hours, reservation requirements or temporary closures.
  10. Keep your itinerary flexible. Shenzhen is a large and fast-changing city, so check the latest metro routes and attraction information shortly before travelling.

Final Thoughts

Window of the World

Shenzhen is much easier to explore once you understand its map. Luohu is best for the Hong Kong border and shopping, Futian for the modern city centre, Nanshan for technology and coastal attractions, while Yantian and Dapeng offer beaches and nature.

For first-time Singaporean visitors, the easiest strategy is to stay near a convenient metro station and plan each day around one part of the city. With the Shenzhen Metro connecting many of the major areas, you can enjoy everything from futuristic cityscapes and shopping streets to coastal villages and historic sites without trying to cross the entire city in one day.
