Futian Port is one of the main land border crossings between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, making it a convenient entry point for Singaporean travellers exploring mainland China from Hong Kong.
If you're planning a trip from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, knowing how to cross the border can make your journey much smoother.
Trip.com has put together this guide to Futian Port, covering border opening hours, crowd levels, MTR and metro connections, and the step-by-step immigration clearance process.
Whether you're visiting Shenzhen for shopping, food or sightseeing, here's everything you need to know before heading across the border via Lok Ma Chau and Futian Port.
The Futian Port border crossing is open daily from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
Futian Port Border-Crossing Crowd Levels
Inside the arrival hall at Futian Port, there are 68 immigration lanes in total, including 20 self-service lanes and 48 manned lanes; the departure hall has 78 immigration lanes, including 20 self-service lanes and 58 manned lanes, with a designed daily cross-border handling capacity of 250,000 passenger trips.
Compared with Luohu Port, travel flow at Futian Port is generally lighter, though it peaks during holidays. During the Mainland’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in 2024 (September 14–16), roughly 550,000 passenger crossings were processed at Futian Port, and travellers faced longer waits in line.

Getting to Futian Port
To head north from Hong Kong via Futian Port, you’ll first need to go to the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point to complete your departure formalities. After that, make your way across the footbridge over the Shenzhen River to reach Futian Port and go through entry procedures.
Trip.com has put together how to get to the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, plus the connecting transport options after you clear Futian Port.
How to Get to the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point
1. MTR East Rail Line
The Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point is connected to Lok Ma Chau Station on the MTR East Rail Line; ride the East Rail Line to Lok Ma Chau Station and, after exiting the gates, you'll head straight to the control point—it's very convenient.
On the East Rail Line, the first trains from Admiralty and Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau depart daily at 06:38 and 05:57, and the last trains leave each night at 22:55 and 23:01, so plan your trip accordingly before you set off! Download the MTR Mobile app in advance to check train arrival and departure times anytime.
2. Minibus Route 75
The green minibus is the cheapest way to reach the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, at just HK$10. However, there are no luggage racks and space is tight, so it’s not the best option if you’re carrying large luggage or if mobility is a concern.
Green Minibus Route 75 runs 06:15-21:15 from Yuen Long (Fuk Hong Street) and 06:45-22:55 from the Control Point, passing through Yuen Long Town Center, Au Tau, Ngau Tam Mei, San Tin, and other areas.
3. B1 Bus Route
Kowloon Motor Bus also operates bus routes from Yuen Long to the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point; by using an Octopus card to take designated routes from various districts to Route B1 stops—such as Yuen Long Plaza, Tin Yiu Estate, San Tin Public Transport Interchange, and YOHO MALL—you can enjoy discounted or even free transfers (see KMB’s official website for details).
KMB Route B1 runs 05:50-21:15 from Tin Tsz and 06:40-22:50 from Lok Ma Chau Station.
KMB Route B1 offers special holiday departures and short-haul trips to Ma Wang Road (Shan Shui Lau); for details, please check the official KMB website.
4. Taxi or Ride-Hailing
Hop in an urban or New Territories taxi to reach the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point.
New Territories taxi fares are lower; if you're starting out from New Territories areas such as Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun, Tai Po, or Ma On Shan, you can take a New Territories taxi to save on your fare.
5. Shenzhen Metro
From Shenzhen, hop on Shenzhen Metro Line 4 or Line 10 to Futian Port Station; after exiting the turnstiles, you'll arrive directly at the B1 level of the Futian Port Joint Inspection Building.
6. "Futian Happy Shopping" Free Shuttle Bus
Operated by Shenzhen Bus Group, four "Futian Fun Shopping" free shuttle routes serving the port-area shopping districts let you travel for free from the most popular commercial areas across Futian District to Futian Port (service operates only on weekends and on public holidays in mainland China and Hong Kong).

Here are a few hotels worth considering, depending on your budget and travel plans.

Essential Tips for Singaporeans Crossing Futian Port
A little preparation can make your border crossing much less stressful. Before leaving Hong Kong, check your travel documents, prepare your payment methods and make sure you can access mobile data in mainland China.
1. Prepare your passport and entry requirements
Singapore ordinary passport holders can generally enter mainland China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days under the mutual visa exemption arrangement. This covers eligible tourism visits, but other activities or longer stays may require a visa. Before travelling:
Bring your valid Singapore passport and keep it accessible throughout the journey.
Check the latest entry requirements for your nationality and purpose of travel.
Keep your hotel booking and return travel details available in case they are requested.
Allow extra time for immigration, especially during weekends and public holidays.
💌Important: Futian Port's published operating hours are generally 6:30 am to 10:30 pm daily. Do not confuse it with Huanggang Port, which operates around the clock. Check the latest arrangements before setting off.
2. Prepare your payment methods before arriving
China uses mobile payments extensively, but overseas visitors have several options. You do not necessarily need a Chinese bank account to make everyday payments.
Payment method
What Singaporeans should know
Alipay
You can generally link an eligible international bank card and complete the required verification
WeChat Pay
Another mobile payment option that supports eligible overseas bank cards
Changi Pay
A Singapore payment option that can be used at participating merchants in mainland China
Credit or debit card
Useful at hotels, shopping malls and larger businesses that accept your card network
RMB cash
Handy for small purchases and as a backup
3. Arrange mobile data and navigation
Your usual Singapore mobile plan may not work in mainland China without an appropriate roaming package. Check with your telco before departure or arrange a suitable travel eSIM.
4. Understand the border-crossing process
Futian Port connects directly with Hong Kong's Lok Ma Chau Control Point and the Shenzhen Metro network. Follow the signs for the correct immigration hall and allow time for checks on both sides of the border.
5. Keep local etiquette in mind
Shenzhen is a modern city, so everyday travel is generally straightforward. A few small habits can help you get around more comfortably.
Queue patiently at immigration counters, ticket machines and popular restaurants.
Keep your passport secure and avoid handing it to unofficial service providers.
Ask before photographing people, especially in private or sensitive settings.
Check restaurant payment methods before ordering if you are unsure whether your card or e-wallet is accepted.
Be mindful of local rules when visiting public facilities and tourist attractions.
Futian Port is open daily from 06:30 to 22:30 (local time). It is not a 24-hour crossing. If you need to cross after 22:30, consider using Huanggang Port (open 24 hours) or Luohu Port (open until midnight). All connected metro and bus services also align with these operating hours, so plan your journey accordingly.
How do I get to Futian Port from Hong Kong?
The easiest and most recommended way is to take the MTR East Rail Line to Lok Ma Chau Station (the terminus). From there, follow signs through the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and walk across the pedestrian bridge directly into Futian Port's immigration hall. The journey takes approximately 45–60 minutes from central Kowloon. Alternatively, you can take KMB Bus B1 or Minibus 75 if you're in the New Territories, or a taxi for door-to-door convenience.
Is Futian a part of Shenzhen?
Yes, Futian is one of the nine administrative districts of Shenzhen city in Guangdong Province, China. It is not a separate city. Futian District is home to Shenzhen's central business district (CBD), the Futian Free Trade Zone, and major landmarks like the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Do Singaporeans need a visa to cross into Shenzhen via Futian Port?
Singapore passport holders can currently enjoy a 15-day visa-free entry into mainland China (including Shenzhen) under China's mutual visa exemption arrangement with Singapore. This means you can cross through Futian Port without a pre-arranged visa for stays up to 15 days. However, visa policies are subject to change — always verify the latest requirements on the official Chinese Embassy or MFA Singapore website before your trip.
How is Futian Port different from Futian Station?
Futian Port (福田口岸) is the land border crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, used by pedestrians and connected to Shenzhen Metro Lines 4 and 10. Futian Station (福田站), on the other hand, is Shenzhen's central high-speed rail station located in Futian District, used for intercity trains to cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai. They are approximately 10 minutes apart by metro. Always double-check you are heading to the correct one for your journey.
What are the peak and off-peak times at Futian Port?
Peak times are typically weekends and public holidays — specifically 09:00–11:00 for the Hong Kong to Shenzhen direction and 16:00–18:00 for Shenzhen to Hong Kong. During Chinese Golden Week and other major holidays, the port can handle over 550,000 passengers across three days. To avoid queues, aim to cross on weekdays, ideally between 07:00–08:00 in the morning or 20:00–22:00 in the evening. Download the 'Land Border Control Point Waiting Time' app for real-time queue data.
