I recently stayed at Hides Hotel during a trip to Cairns and was pleasantly surprised by the value and charm this heritage-style hotel offers. The location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of the Esplanade, night markets, Reef Fleet Terminal, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Whether you’re heading out for a reef tour or just exploring the local area, Hides is a super convenient base. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. It had everything I needed, including air-conditioning (a must in Cairns!), a small fridge, and free Wi-Fi. The building itself has an old-school character that’s a bit different from your typical chain hotels, which I actually really liked—it feels like you’re staying somewhere with history. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, happy to give recommendations and assist with bookings. There’s also a lovely wide veranda on the upper level, which is a great spot to relax in the evening and take in the atmosphere of the city. Only downside was that the hotel is a bit dated in places, and depending on the room you’re in, you might hear a bit of street noise—but that’s to be expected in a central location like this. Overall, Hides Hotel is a great choice for budget-conscious travelers who want clean, central, no-fuss accommodation with character. I’d definitely consider staying again.

The counter staff is very friendly! Always answer all our questions with a smile! We checked in around 20:30 this time and stayed for two nights. There are different activities to participate in at the Youth Hostel every day! It is recommended to stay on the day of your favorite event! My personal experience sharing: 1. The water in the bathroom is a little small, but it’s not a big problem 2. There is no storage space in the shower room, but there is a step to separate wet and dry areas. Remember to bring your own washbasin or something to wash in the bathroom. 3. The counter closes at 10 o'clock, so you can borrow a hair dryer before then. 4You need to bring your own lock to lock the lockers in the room, so remember to bring it! The picture below is a cute little game in the toilet

Recently renovated rooms with modern facilities. The bistro has one of the finest menus you'll ever see in pubs. The best place to wind down whether you're on holidays or just stopping overnight. The onsite BWS is also quite handy.

Nature in city center ! Perfectly located in the center of Airlie beach. The cabine is really good with private bathroom and toilet along with a lovely terrace in front of the cabane. This is quiet after 10 pm even though there is a bar not far from the cabane. The room is wide with double and single beds. And the room was clean. We booked our day trips with Magnums too who can handle the booking for us (Kangooroo at sunrise, scenic flight over whitsundays and heart island, wild Playtipus encounter) and all the 3 day trips went well. The only thing that could be improved is the knowledge of the pick up point (it was actually at Nomads at the level of the roundabout and not the Nomads shop next to the hotel). Also to go the airport of Proserpine there is a shuttle linked to your plane number and the pick up point is also 5 min from Magnums which is very convenient (Magnums can book it for you)

I stayed in Australia for the first time. I couldn't speak much because I didn't have English ability for a week stay, but I was very comfortable with the impression that many people stayed for a long time! !! A short walk away, there are many cafes, and it was a place that did not bother me even on days when I didn't go out due to rain. Personally I really like it ^^ There were many Europeans, and I was scared that it was a Yang ca, but everyone talked very kindly 🥹🥹

The hotel's location is excellent, right opposite a large supermarket, making shopping incredibly convenient. It's well-equipped, safe, and clean. This is the best value-for-money hostel I've stayed at in Australia.

Room was pretty good, check in process was a little slow but staff were very apologetic, loved the info and links via text, unfortunately no wifi details were left on the desk (I didn't ask or complain tho cuz I had my own internet). The only real downer was I went to the bistro for dinner and the footy was on super loud and I really couldn't enjoy my meal and when I complained and asked if this was the bistro my concerns about how loud it was were completely dismissed. The also had a sports bar so I don't understand why the bistro had to be so loud. I thought it was a bit rich being charged $2 for a takeaway container despite the fact i couldn't sit and enjoy my meal due to the footy (qld teams weren't even playing either). Otherwise everything else was good.

The hotel's location is fantastic; you just walk downstairs and cross the road to the beach. The hygiene is decent, and the bedding is clean. The building facilities are a bit old, but getting a sea-view room at this price point is a great deal.

IilovetravelyeahhI really enjoyed staying here! It was SO CLEAN and the beds were absolutely wonderful - so comfy! Th best of my life, actually. We did get an upgrade to 3-bedroom Oasis building, room 204, by the way. That was so amazing and we would definitely stay again and would love to. It's like brand new and is such a beautiful apartment and building in general. Just a short walk to the beach (like a few minutes). Great undercover parking - secure, with remotes - and just such a great stay. The cleaners for the apartment were so great. You only get 1 clean per 7 days, it seems, but we liked that - we could enjoy the privacy and there are cleaning tools in there - like vacuum, mop, etc. and iron, great washing machine and dryer, which we enjoyed using daily. The kitchen is fully equipped and it's basically an apartment.  So just so you know - it seems to be a real estate agency who lets rooms in varying apartment buildings in the precinct (all within walking distance from each other). So I guess if you book based on photos, you may not actually get that room or apartment block. But we had a great experience and would love to stay again. It's so close to the beach and the beach is so clean - no litter. Lifeguards are even there.  It's more of a quiet place to stay and more longterm or self-serve kind of thing; and that's great for people who want to basically rent a home for a short time, really, like we did. We had 11 nights as we were moving house and needed somewhere to stay and we so enjoyed it! I want to buy it haha. It's not like a resort nor hotel, really - it's maybe more like AirbnB but very professional and run by real state who is there in an office a short walk away, and they seem very professional and great. I don't usually like AirbnB.

GGuest UserDated but well kept. Pool and BBQ although I didn't use them were a good facility. Location middle of Cairns meant I could walk everywhere easily and on the level.....even the airport was in my walking range at 5.4 km. Staff were excellent and the management Excellent and able to resolve all issues I had with onward travels and other countries online travel document requirements, which is so helpful to an older less technical traveller like me.👍 Mervyn

GGuest UserDue to slow drainage in the bathroom that wasn't fixed, the hotel moved us to an upstairs room. It was a huge improvement from the previous one; the room and bathroom were spacious and clean, both with large windows that opened, offering a great view.

GGuest UserOverall, this hostel deserves 4 out of 5 stars. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I especially liked the central location and the pleasant atmosphere. The common areas were also modern and comfortably designed. My only minor criticisms would be the noise at night and the somewhat small bathrooms in some rooms. Nevertheless, the stay was very enjoyable overall, and it offered good value for money.

FFlemingTaniaWe booked our accommodation at Hola as it was a short drive from the birthday party celebration at a local Brewery we attended. We were pleasantly surprised by this bouquet-style accommodation(only 15 rooms). Every room is slightly different with different art from a local artist hanging in the room. A local potter has made one-of-a-kind coffee and tea cups. All of the content in the bar fridge is locally sourced (bottles are recycled) everything is about sustainability- furniture from recycled timber, a water tank, solar-sourced power, private, tranquil, and the most amazingly comfortable bed (we both sleep very well) The bathroom products are beautiful: organic botanicals designed to elevate your mood that is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and refillable. Across the road is a park, Thai restaurant, and local markets (Wed & Fri.) We only stayed one night but we would definitely go back for a longer stay next time so that we could enjoy the gardens and private lawn area (picnic/ read a book/ chillout). We have already recommended Hola to family and friends. Eumundi is a 20-minute drive to Noosa (north) or (South) to Mooloolaba. Super clean and very new/modern. The welcome bag containing lollies and chocolates was a nice gesture The only very, very small thing for me, was there was no shower cap (I have long hair), I think because shower caps are plastic it goes against their suitability Philosophy. I did have a hairband to use, so really that is my only negative thing.

LluminaeonThe biggest strengths of Roamer Brisbane are definitely its location and staff. It's directly opposite Roma Street Station, making it incredibly convenient for public transport and airport connections. Every staff member I interacted with was genuinely friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. Another highlight is the in-house café/bar. The coffee was excellent and quickly became part of my daily routine. That said, the room itself left a lot to be desired. While the price point starts to make more sense once you see the condition of the rooms, they are noticeably worn and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom in my private room was particularly disappointing. It flooded every single time I took a shower and the shower head was loose, which made using it quite frustrating. Overall, this is a good option if you're looking for a convenient location, great staff, the fastest wi-fi I've ever experienced and good coffee, but don't expect modern or particularly well-maintained rooms (they were clean, though).
