This place makes me wish there was an option for six stars.
I study Asian art for a living, and I travelled to Jianyang to visit the home of Jian ware, classic tea bowls of the Song dynasty (960 to 1279 CE), distinguished by their black and brown glazes. Over the last few decades, firing Jian ware in the Song tradition has been revived in the area. I chose Nanping Colourful Village Homestay because it was in Jianyang, affordable, and accepted international guests. What I found was a luxury resort with all the warmth and personal attention of a homestay.
I asked the front desk about an excavated Song kiln site in a nearby village, and the receptionist brought me the manager, who arranged for someone to take me the next day. My driver was Ms. Huang, an employee of the resort whose job involves buying and selling contemporary pieces. She knew everything about Jian ware! The kiln site isnât run as a tourist site, so I was only able to view it because Ms. Huang arranged for it to be opened for me.
I had told them I was vegetarian, so for lunch they took me to lunch at a vegetarian buffet. Then we visited the townâs Jian ware museum, where they have exhibits on the history of tea and Jian ware, historical pieces, and the work of contemporary Jianyang potters.
To my delight, Mr. Gao, the potter-in-residence at the resort, uses a Song-style wood-fired dragon kiln, built right on the grounds! His pieces that range from beautiful but quite affordable to exquisite and appropriately expensive. They include both iridescent silvery oil spot and orange-to-black hareâs fur pieces. I am still thrilled that I was able to purchase wood-fired pieces on my limited budget.
For dinner, the resortâs restaurant prepared vegetarian versions of Fujian cuisine for me. The food was all delicious, featuring classic Fujianese mountain ingredients like local bamboo and mushrooms.
Then we visited Mr. Gaoâs dragon kiln, and later his studio, where he experiments with different local clays and glaze recipes. The rich colours and iridescence of Jian ware are the result of the iron-rich local material fired at high temperature, and the results are as unpredictable as they are beautiful.
The next day, they drove me to Mr. Chenâs family tea plantation in the mountains, where they grow famous northern Fujian teas. These fine teas were all wonderful, smooth and rich with a touch of smoke, and sometimes fruity in flavour. We strolled through mountainsides of tea bushes and visited groves of centuries-old tea trees.
This is a perfect place for an immersive experience in China that is also very comfortable and convenient. I often find tourist experiences in China claustrophobic due to the press of people, but the resort was spacious and airy, and they took me to places where there was no one else but us and the occasional local going about their business. Everyone was very patient with my limited Chinese language skills. They were also happy to work with translator apps on our phones, so if you donât speak any Chinese, you will be fine.
This would be a great place to come as a family. There are gardens and rides for kids right next to the resort. You can learn how to whip Song-style tea and carve your name into the base of your own Jian ware cup. Not far away is a historical theme park with a collection of real architecture from the Ming (1368 to 1644 CE) and Qing (1636 to 1912 CE) dynasties. The employees wear period dress and there are performances and activities. Nearby there are hiking trails, historical sites, and lovely villages to visit.
Itâs also very close to Wuyi Mountain National Park, so it would be a perfect place to stay if the mountains are your destination. If you ask, they could arrange for you to visit famous sites or take you to breathtaking places that only locals know, whatever you want. They can also arrange transport to and from the train station or airport.

The rooms are very smart. The hotel is located on the 4th floor above Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, and it's also very close to Xiamen Zhenghai Road Metro Station. It's also very near to the Gulangyu ferry terminal, about a 10-minute drive. The hotel has a Nanyang style, and there's a large common area. They also offer a self-service breakfast. The hotel corridors use Tieguanyin tea as air freshener, creating a tea-scented aroma. All hotel rooms have been disinfected, and the hotel even provides a service for sending out express deliveries. Overall, it's excellent.

Guest UserFirst off, the front desk service was excellent. đ They were very thoughtful, spoke in a gentle tone, and went out of their way to help guests. When we needed to switch rooms, they offered to move our luggage for us, which was a huge plus. While waiting for our ride at checkout, the front desk even brought us lemonade. The room cleanliness was also impeccable. The front desk staff and cleaning aunties were very prompt in resolving any small issues. The hotel's location is great, with many restaurants nearby, and it's a quick taxi ride to major attractions. The robot delivery service for takeout was also very convenient. There were travel tips on the walls and cultural and creative products available for browsing in the lobby.
The ground floor lobby also offered beverages like barley tea and plum juice, along with a reading nook.
Breakfast mostly consisted of simple Chinese options: congee, various stir-fries, boiled and tea eggs, fried dough sticks, and small steamed buns. Western options were limited to toast and milk.
However, regarding facilities and environment:
(1) Upon arrival, the room still required a key card to power on the AC, and there was no AC in the hallways. The AC on the first floor was also not very strong. The temperature in Quanzhou that day was over 30 degrees Celsius, and waiting for the room to cool down was quite frustrating.
(2) I made two separate bookings. For the first two days, the twin room's TV wall wallpaper was a bit dirty and the soundproofing was slightly poor. The two-bedroom suite for the latter two days was much better.

My recent stay at the Kulangsi Resort in Xiamen was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was a special place dedicated to providing a tranquil and luxurious getaway.
Wonderful Environment:
The resort is beautifully situated, offering a perfect blend of lush, manicured gardens and serene landscapes. It feels like a hidden oasis away from the city's hustle and bustle, yet it remains conveniently located. The views are stunning, and the overall atmosphere is one of peace and relaxation. It's an ideal spot for both couples and families looking to unwind.
Excellent Hotel Facilities:
The facilities are top-notch. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean, and featured a modern design with all the amenities one could ask for. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. Beyond the room, the swimming pool was a delight, and the fitness center was well-equipped. Every corner of the resort is maintained to a very high standard.
Standout Service from ĺ°é (Xiao Chen):
While every staff member we encountered was professional and friendly, one individual truly made our stay unforgettable: a gentleman named ĺ°é (Xiao Chen). His service was, without exaggeration, world-class. He was incredibly thoughtful and anticipatory, always seeming to know what we needed before we even asked. From offering insightful local tips to ensuring every small detail of our room was perfect, his attention to care was remarkable. He embodies the true spirit of hospitality and is a tremendous asset to the Kulangsi Resort.
Verdict:
I wholeheartedly recommend the Kulangsi Resort. The beautiful environment and excellent facilities provide the perfect backdrop, but it's the outstanding service from people like Xiao Chen that transforms a great stay into a truly memorable one. We will definitely be returning.

Pros:
1. The location is excellent, very close to the scenic area. It's super convenient for dining and shopping. There's also a Sanfu and a 7-Eleven downstairs, and Cotti Coffee from the first floor can be delivered directly to your room.
2. The front desk staff's service attitude was great; they pretty much fulfilled every request and even agreed to upgrade our room type. Although it was a less desirable 'end room,' it was acceptable. When we needed disposable chopsticks, cups, etc., they brought them up without hesitation, and extra blankets were provided free of charge.
3. The room's overall cleanliness was good. The bedding was clean, with no stains or hair. The showerhead in the bathroom also had no water marks or limescale. Thumbs up!
Cons:
1. The hotel seems to have been open for quite a while; the linens are pretty old, which made me a bit hesitant to use them. There were large oil stains on the table surface; I tried to wipe them off, but they wouldn't budge, which was a bit off-putting. I hope they can add a tablecloth to cover it.
2. Please remember to disinfect the sink in the restroom; it had a strong odor.
3. The message board needs to be cleaned; there were pencil shavings as soon as I opened it.
4. Disposable items like the toothbrush were quite poor. The toothpaste and toothbrush were surprisingly separate, and the toothbrush was very uncomfortable to useâtoo big and too hard.
5. The pillows were average, and there were no special sleep pillows or buckwheat pillows available.

On my first night in Longyan, I stayed at the Antumanxi Hotel and was completely captivated by its modern aesthetic design! Driving? They offer complimentary parking, which was super convenient â¨.
đRoom Highlights:
The smart controls get a perfect score! đŻ With electric curtains, a smart toilet, and a voice control system, it's a lazy person's dream! My absolute favorite was the extra-large sofa, perfect for sprawling out and binge-watching shows â pure bliss! The bathroom features a dry/wet separation, and the toiletries are premium. I personally found the bedding to be incredibly comfortable and pressure-free â even fussy sleepers will drift off instantly đ´.
đ˝ď¸Breakfast Lovers, Pay Attention:
They offer Longyan's local specialties like 'Bo Ji Ban' and 'Yu Zi Bao'! The freshly-made noodle soup is a must-try! Pair it with a cup of coffee to kickstart your energetic day âď¸.

I usually do not choose homestay when other modes are available. However in Yunshuiyao homestay is the only choice. Given that 1949 has to preserve the local architecture do not expect 5 star hotel facilities. For all the constraints of a âmin suâ the staff do go the distance to ensure they meet the demands of guests. I checked out a happy guest and will recommend 1949 to other travelers.

Quanzhou West Lake Hotel boasts an excellent location right next to West Lake Park, offering great transport links. The 'Little White Car' stop right outside provides direct access to the ancient city's core. The hotel facilities are new and comprehensive, with spacious and bright rooms. Some room types even feature oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, offering expansive views of West Lake â truly a sight to behold. The front desk staff are warm and attentive, making check-in a breeze, and the intelligent robot delivery service is a convenient touch. The hotel's quiet environment makes it ideal for families or business travelers, and its high value for money makes it a fantastic choice for visiting Quanzhou.

Guest UserThe room's overall decor is exquisite and creates a wonderful ambiance. The lighting is soft and not harsh, the space is generous, and the bedding is soft and comfortable to sleep in. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide excellent natural light, and the blackout curtains work perfectly. The room is well-equipped with a TV, a large wardrobe, a desk, and a separate lounge area. A mini-fridge is also provided, and the hygiene is top-notch. The location is convenient, and I'm very satisfied overall. It definitely deserves a five-star rating! đ
