2-Star Hotels in Ashigarashimo District

Probably my favourite place I have stayed while traveling. I stayed in a shared room, which was very quiet but designed not to look like prison but actually comfortable. The ”capsule” has good amout of space and privacy. My favourite part was the shared spaces such as the lounge/kitchen area and onsen. The kitchen is well equipped and has amenities you’d never think of having, like the machine for making shaved ice and coffee brewers. It is very comfortable and has great atmosphere and great views outside. The onsen was amazing as well, with two kinds of pools outdoor and indoor available. The onsen looks and feels amazing. It opens from early morning to midnight, which gives flexible time to go take a bath. Overall great place to stay, next to a bus stop and a little walk to the Hakone Tozan railway. Konbini few minutes away, bakery, italian restaurant and couple shrines next to it.

What an amazing guest house with beautiful interior design! This was the best stay I’ve had in Japan so far. The staff are super kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is zen and social. I loved having dinner there (you need to reserve in advance as spots are limited). It was delicious and a wonderful experience to wear yukatas as a group. A big thank you to Nana, Kira and Fuko :)) Another great advantage is the location is excellent, right by the Hakone open air museum (best museum I’ve ever been to) and near a Lawson and 7/11. There’s also a bus stop right there and the closest train station is only a few min away by foot and Gora station is about a 15 min walk. I think the Hakone free pass is also worth doing for 2-3 days because the value and convenience is very good. One morning, I had breakfast in the caravan parked outside the guesthouse, run by Tom, and that was practical and yummy. I didn’t have time to check this out, but there’s the Hakone foot spa nearby that’s supposed to have nice views and there’s also the Beer Bar by Gora Brewery that looks nice for dinner or lunch. Kowakidani Horaien Gardens and Chisuji Falls are also nearby (20 min walk). Overall, I highly recommend this place and would gladly have stayed longer and hope to come back one day! Very good service for an affordable price. I stayed two nights in female dormitory, the bed is spacious even the top one,I was provided with towels and a kimono-style robe, which was very comfortable. There are two private onsens in the inn, you can reserve any of them the day before. Also, there is a small kitchen with cooks, you can order a breakfast and a dinnir a la carte, which is very convenient. The only downside is that you have to bring the luggage uphill when checking in, but it is not a problem when checking out because there is a free transfer provided each morning to the Gora station.

Since it was raining when we visited, the hotel offered complimentary umbrellas, which was a nice touch. We arrived before check-in time, and the staff kindly stored our luggage. When we got back, the private onsen bath was already filled with hot water and even had a warming plate, though I couldn't find the valve to turn off the hot spring water. Breakfast was very generous, but it wasn't quite to my taste. Overall, it's a great option if you're looking to experience a traditional Japanese accommodation.

*The guest villa was nice, clean, and comfortable.* We had a small issue at check-in though. The check-in email only came in at 4:30 PM, but we arrived at 3:00 PM. Plus our room was changed from 201 to 101, so the code we got didn’t work. Luckily the staff was there when we arrived and helped us check into the new room quickly. *Facilities:* Washing machine is paid - 6kg for 400 Yen. Dryer is 100 Yen for 30 mins but clothes don’t get fully dry, so we still had to hang them out. The drying area is small but clean enough. Bathroom was clean too and overall facilities are good. If you're particular about dust on windowsills and walls, or the hygiene of bedding (excluding the covers), you might want to reconsider booking. While the duvet cover was clean, it's just a single cover, so as you toss and turn in your sleep, your body inevitably touches the duvet itself. However, considering the insane accommodation prices in Hakone, this place is incredibly, truly cheap! The location requires taking a bus to get anywhere, but the bus stop is close by. Be warned, Japanese rural bus schedules are a real headache! Make sure to check the bus times carefully for both your inbound and outbound journeys. Plan your day by checking the timetable for each bus route, otherwise, you could easily waste an hour or two. The staff are incredibly friendly. I met different staff members upon arrival, during my stay, and at check-out, and they were all genuinely super friendly. In short: Would I book here again if I revisited Hakone? Yes!

Nestled in a peaceful corner of Mt. Hakone, yet conveniently connected by bus, only a 5-10 mins walk. This charming little hotel offered an unforgettable immersion into Japanese culture, complete with tatami-matted floor, soft futon bedding and soothing onsen. With it's effortless check in and out, it's perfect for travelers seeking tranquility and authenticity without sacrificing to much convenience. Pros: If you plan to visit the Hakone pirate ship and the Hakone ropeway at Togendai, it will give you an early start because it's only 11 minutes by bus. Con: To get to the hotel you will need to go up a little hill, not too hard, but if you have a lot of luggage it could be a bit of a challenge (But it's an easy walk back to the bus stop) Be mindful of the bus time getting to the hotel as the bus tends to end around 5:00 p.m. Also, there aren't any places to eat near the hotel, so you may need to take food with you, order breakfast with the hotel or buy some snacks and instant noodles from the hotel shop.

A nice cozy home right near the main train station. Easy access to transportation and right in the heart of the town. The house had many beds to choose from and good separation of rooms. A stocked kitchen and laundry machine was a bonus. The only slight bother was that the space in front of the toilet was very narrow and it was slightly uncomfortable to be on the toilet. Also there are cockroaches that come in at night, but this is fairly normal in Japan. The walk up to the house consists of many stairs and is not suitable for persons with handicaps/mobility issues.

We loved this hotel, it is much more mono in reality than in photos. All very clean and careful. They have private bathrooms, two indoors and two outdoors. Very clean and with everything necessary (gel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, etc.). The hotel was very comfortable and very comfortable. You can borrow shoes, yukatas (those also to go to the outer bathroom), parachutes, and take cold or hot water and tea. The room had a table, a balcony with a refrigerator, another table next to the window and washing machine. We didn't pass anything cold since there were a lot of coats and a air pump.
