Shuzenji Onsen Katsuragawa

Shuzenji Onsen Katsuragawa ★★★★

📍 Shuzenji 860, Izu City

"Aside from being expensive, there's absolutely nothing else to complain about. The hotel staff were proactive and enthusiastic. They saw us taking photos by the entrance and offered to help, mentioning they could also speak Chinese as they had studied in China. There's a free welcome drink, free late-night snacks, and welcome ice cream. Plus, there's a supermarket right on the ground floor of the hotel. Both breakfast and dinner were incredibly abundant. And there are free massage chairs available for use right by the entrance to the open-air hot spring bath."

Tatsuta Ryokan ★★★★

📍 347 Yugashima, Izu City

"There are two characteristics of the hotel, kawadoka cuisine and four open-air private hot springs. Let's talk about kawadoka cuisine first. The whole cuisine is very rich. The service staff will prepare it for you in advance at the time you make an appointment. You can enjoy the scenery while eating the cuisine. As for the hot springs, you can check whether the hot springs are in use through the website, which is very convenient. This time I only soaked in two due to time constraints. I will try the other two next time. The overall service is also very good. When you leave the hotel, the hotel will send you to a station by bus. Just confirm the route with the hotel in advance."

📍 874-1 Shuzenji, Izu City

"The room had a private hot spring, the facilities were new, and the environment was beautiful. We could walk to nearby attractions. The dinner selection was good, and the hotel itself was quite large with a charming corridor. It's set in a big private garden, which is great for photos!"

Breezbay Shuzenji Hotel ★★★

"We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days as a family. We are a Japanese family. The price was reasonable, so we were somewhat prepared for some shortcomings, but personally, we were satisfied. [Good points] - The breakfast was delicious. The lineup was the same, but considering it was 1000 yen per meal, it was acceptable. Overall, the staff's service was good. - We were told it was a smoking room, but we didn't notice any smell. - The indoor bath was free of mold and dirt, and there were no problems. - We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room. There were two beds and a comfortable space to relax, and it felt more spacious than expected. - The evening stroll around the area was fantastic, with the area lit up. [Points of concern] - It was generally dark at night, and the corridor leading to the open-air bath was particularly dim and scary. - While it was good that they accommodated us at the last minute for the dinner buffet, considering the 3500 yen price, our satisfaction level was low. Overall, I was very satisfied with the reasonably priced plan. I also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the surrounding area both day and night. The people I met in the area made a very good impression. I would definitely like to visit the Shuzenji area again. Thank you very much."

"We were a little reluctant to check out this morning, but we'll definitely come back next time. The food in the room was beyond our expectations—it was amazing! The two elderly ladies spent several hours preparing for our meal from check-in to dinner. They prepared a sumptuous breakfast early in the morning. Thank you! It was an unexpected surprise during our trip."

"VACATION VILLA BLUE ARK, which I stay at here, is the worst. The website and reality are completely different. It's really awful. First of all, they advertise a private beach, but in reality it's just located at the edge of a public beach, so the inside of the room is completely visible to the many beachgoers, lifeguards, and people walking on the beach. Swimming is prohibited on the rocks in front of the property. The space in front of the property looks like a garden in the image on the website, but in reality it is covered with weeds and insects, covering the property, and there is no space in front of the property. It's just a grassy area. The trash left by the previous owner has not been cleaned up. The chairs that are covered in grass are covered in bird droppings and cannot be used. There are also signs of fireworks in this grassy area, and some of the grass is burned. Setting off fireworks in the grass can cause fires and is very dangerous, but I don't understand why the weeds have been left there until it looks like a ruin. Also, the website says that two SUPs are available for free rental, but both are broken and left in a broken wreckage state. (One of them has a missing fin and the urethane on the surface of the SUP is peeled off. The other one is flat and crushed.) The part to adjust the length of the paddle is also broken. Although it says that SUPs are available for free rental, they are actually tattered rubbish. This inn only opened in December 2021, so it is difficult to understand why it is in such a dilapidated state. Also, even though it was just after checking in, the drain in the bathroom was clogged, and when I checked it out, I found a large amount of hair sludge tangled in it. The washing machine was probably never cleaned, as it was covered in sand and had a lot of black dirt, and there was a lot of hair and dust next to the washing machine. The hair dryer was particularly bad, and was stored in a bag while still greasy. The living/dining/kitchen room on the first floor smelled of rotten food waste. There was no deodorizer provided. Many of the dishes and cooking utensils provided had not been washed, and were basically all greasy. Naturally, the barbecue grill and the terrace table were extremely dirty. The meat for the barbecue was discolored and dripping badly, so I lost my appetite, so I barely touched the barbecue ingredients and bought cup ramen and ate it. And there was no explanation at all when I checked in. There was really no explanation. Check-in is at Chozu no Toki, but they don't even tell you where the property is, so I had to rely on my intuition while looking at Google Maps. (There are only foreign staff at the front desk, and they can only speak a minimum amount of language, so I couldn't ask any questions.) Also, even though I booked with dinner and breakfast, they didn't tell me the meal times, or even if meals were included, so I was very worried when I paid the fee at check-in. There was no contact information written anywhere in the room in case of any trouble, so if anything happened, I had to look up the outside number of Chozu no Toki on the Internet and call it from my cell phone. It was almost 10 o'clock and they still hadn't brought breakfast, so I called Chozu no Toki from my cell phone and they said it would be there in 5 minutes. It seems they only bring meals if you pay the call charge and call from your cell phone. In any case, there are amazing traces of previous guests in everything. On the website, it says it's as comfortable as a hotel, so if you look at it and mistakenly think it's really hotel quality, you'll be in for a very unpleasant experience. It was a complete waste of my precious time and money. If I'm going to pay 150,000 yen a night and end up like this, a private lodging would be more comfortable. It was a special occasion and I only regret it. It's the worst lodging I've ever stayed at in my life. Not only will I never use it again, I don't even want to remember it."

"I'd been interested in this inn for a while. The Yoshina River flows through the grounds, which are the size of two Tokyo Domes. There are bridges within the building, as well as two old bridges. In addition to the main and west buildings, the inn is packed with amenities, including a thatched-roof restaurant, a Taisho-era lounge, a bakery, and a riverside terrace! There are five hot spring baths, two of which are private. We arrived by shuttle bus from Shuzenji Station. We first checked in at the entrance building, which has a wonderful atmosphere with its high ceilings, pillars, and beams. From our room, we could see the beautiful Japanese garden. We strolled around while looking at a map of the grounds. Simply strolling the grounds was enjoyable. We went to the open-air bath, which alternates between men and women depending on the time. After enjoying the hot springs and the greenery, we headed to the lounge to quench our thirst. We enjoyed beer and sparkling wine. After enjoying a variety of elaborate dishes, each made with carefully selected ingredients, we took a minibus to a spot where we could see fireflies! This was the best part. From a bridge over the Yoshina River upstream from the inn, we were able to see the fireflies glowing yellow-green in the pitch-black darkness. We returned to the inn and went to the private bath we had reserved. We then went to the "Kodakara no Yu" hot spring, where Oman had taken a cure in hopes of being blessed with children. Before breakfast, we took a walk to Fujimi-daira, a one-hour round trip walk from Oman's garden. We could see Mount Fuji faintly. We had a Western breakfast in the retro atmosphere of the second floor of the Taishokan building. Here too, we were able to spend a luxurious time. After breakfast, we bought some bread and fruit cake as souvenirs at the bakery, and then had a toast to celebrate our wedding anniversary in the lounge! I'm a TV addict, but I had such a fulfilling time here that I didn't have time to watch TV. When you think about it, it's great value for money! This is one of the inns I'd like to return to."

"I made a reservation to coincide with the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival. I took a hot spring bath as soon as I arrived, and the large indoor bath and outdoor rock bath had a feeling of openness that was really great. The quality of the spring water is very good and you won't get too hot, so you can enjoy it over and over again. I love that you can come in from 5am! When I took a walk outside at night, I was very moved by the starry sky. The staff are very kind and I am very satisfied overall. There was a golf course right in front of the hotel, so next time I would like to stay with friends and make a golf reservation."

"Is over my expectations, service super good, very delicious food . Room super nice, I will stay again soon. Highly recommend for couple , everything are perfect.  stayed in the biggest villa , I was the best experience in my life . Only the thing not prefect was no parking inside the hotel due to the villas are 170 years so no space for it . But very very good . 👍👍👍"

"I stayed in the Jōgen Room, a sukiya-style room. I thoroughly enjoyed everything from the food and hot springs to the hospitality. There were also many paintings of natural plants and flowers hanging on the walls, and I became a fan when I learned they were the work of Fumiko Hori. The hanging scroll depicting an uninterrupted clear stream was by Keiko Yamashita."

"A truly comfortable and delightful hotel! The food was exquisite and incredibly delicious! I was pleasantly surprised that the wasabi hot pot set menu also came with sashimi, Wagyu beef, and abalone? Or was it soft-shelled turtle? (The lobster in the picture was ordered separately.) Overall, the food was prepared with great care. The hotel has a traditional Japanese style, and the courtyard is absolutely beautiful. Although our English isn't great, the front desk staff was very patient and meticulous in explaining all the rules to us. During meals, she even introduced each dish and spoke a few words of Chinese – we really loved her! There was an unexpected and wonderful surprise when we checked out: all the staff came out to bid us farewell and even held up a banner that said, "Please come again!" It was so touching and made us so happy; the emotional value was completely maximized. The room we booked included a private onsen, which was available 24 hours a day. We will definitely be back!!!"

"Room: The room features a modern tatami style with a beautiful view of the courtyard through the window. The dining experience is lovely, with a lovely green view. Meals: The kaiseki dinner was decent but took a long time. Bath: The environment was okay, nothing particularly exciting, and the outdoor bath was rather small."

"Although there is a free shuttle bus from Shuzenji Station, there is only one bus per hour and the last bus is around 8:00 pm, so it is not very convenient. It is inconvenient because there are no convenience stores or other small shops nearby. Since it is a golf resort after all, I think it is a good accommodation for playing golf."

"The room is a classic Japanese style, large and spacious, with a balcony offering a wonderful sunset view. I highly recommend the one-night-two-meals package; breakfast and dinner offer a wide variety and a pleasant dining environment. The bathing area reveals its rich history, with the sulfur traces at the outlet particularly noticeable. Transportation is also conveniently located just a two-minute walk from the station."
