Hot Springs Hotels in Izu City

This will likely be our favourite stay of our entire trip! It felt like the most warm homely and welcoming step back into a Japan that is rapidly disappearing. The food is sublime, effectively a 14 course tasting menu of authentic local food, sat on tatami mats with the wood fires next to you, dressed in a lovely Yukata provided by the ryokan! I cannot recommend this stay enough, the mountains around are gorgeous. We got off the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka at Mishima station and rented a car for the day to see Mt Fuji and Izu peninsula which all worked out great!

The staff was very professional and kind. We reserved the private onsen for an additional cost. We booked the biggest onsen. The washing area and the changing room was impeccably clean. The end of the tub however was a bit scary. The walls and ceiling was covered in spider webs and there were giant spiders hanging on there which was a bit unnerving. Otherwise the public washing areas and the room were very clean. The ryokan however is a bit outdated. There are some markings on the wall and curtains.

Arai Ryokan, built in 1872, is a luxurious ryokan with 31 Japanese style guest rooms are located in various private cottages. Its 15 wooden structures are registered as the national cultural assets. Many Japanese celebrated artists made frequent visit and the big art collection is housed in the ryokan. A wooden bridge leads to the guest rooms which overlook either the river or the courtyard with its large pond full of carp. Arai Ryokan’s traditional Japanese cuisine kaiseki served features local fresh seafood and vegetable of each season.

We stayed here to celebrate my mother's 88th birthday. When we arrived, two women were waiting for us and quickly carried our luggage. The view of the Japanese garden from our room was wonderful, and the vivid fresh greenery was soothing to the soul. The dinner we had in our private room was a seasonal kaiseki meal, served one dish at a time in perfect timing and in beautiful utensils, all of which was delicious. We enjoyed a delicious coffee after the meal in the free cafe. The baths are switched between men's and women's, so we were able to enjoy both large baths. The flowers and furnishings throughout the building were also wonderful, and we took our time looking at them. The young man in charge was friendly and explained things carefully, so we had a pleasant stay. This is an inn that I would definitely like to visit again in a different season.

Our stay at Toi Fujiya Hotel felt like being treated to a 5-star experience. The service was absolutely exceptional - every staff member was incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to help with anything we needed. The room was spacious and beautifully comfortable, with plush bedding and a relaxing atmosphere. The highlight was definitely the private onsen in the room - such a luxurious treat and perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. And the food… wow! So much variety and every dish was delicious - a true feast that made every meal memorable. Overall, Toi Fujiya Hotel went above and beyond in every way. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

It was a wonderful traditional Japanese stay. The rooms were newly renovated and the environment was very quiet. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were both very special. The private bath was a great experience. I recommend that people set aside their pursuit of ”newness and modernity” and immerse themselves in traditional Japanese culture for a day; it's a truly relaxing experience.

All aspects of the environment are very satisfactory, the food is very good, but the Japanese-style hotel that does not accept children. It is my favorite Japanese-style hot spring hotel. Another point is that it is more convenient to drive by yourself. However, the hotel should arrange a station pick-up and drop-off. Dinner: Super delicious!

The hotel is fantastic! Every room type is different, each room is like a mini-villa with a private hot spring ♨️, I loved it! I chose the 140-square-meter, two-story room. The front desk service was excellent; they helped with my luggage and escorted me to my room. The next day, when I checked out, they immediately came to help my luggage when they saw my driver come to my room to help me (I heard this from the driver later). The hotel garden view is particularly beautiful. The only downside was that I decided to come to Izu and booked the hotel at the last minute, so I couldn't book the hotel's food (you have to book three days in advance). I highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel is nice and spacious, and the breakfast is fantastic! 👍 For a Japanese-style breakfast, it's incredibly diverse, offering chicken, fish, eggs, fruits, and pastries, all at a good price. The only downside is that as a tourist destination, there isn't much to see, mainly the unique streetscapes of the onsen town… otherwise, it feels a bit like a large rural area. 😀 The hot springs are amazing! My skin felt smooth and refreshed after soaking, it was very relaxing.

The hotel's surroundings are wonderful; although it's a bit remote, the air is incredibly fresh. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the hotel's age, our room didn't have an elevator, and there were also stairs in the corridors, which meant we had to carry our own luggage. However, the hotel's hot springs are fantastic – a soak there is truly rejuvenating. The only minor drawback was that the breakfast selection wasn't particularly varied.
