A bit chilly, but otherwise perfect. It's very close to the train station, making transportation convenient, and there are many great food options nearby. The restaurant's breakfast is excellent. It's a perfect retreat, quiet yet centrally located, and the service attitude is also very good.

I like to book Holiday Inn when I travel because it's usually reliable, although some branches can be a older/more worn out than others, but I expect would be up to standards. Room was comfortable and very spacious. Had a Big screen tv ehich was great to watch the match.The night team went above and beyond to ensure I had a good stay and responded to my request.

Hotel is in the city centre, so its very noisy but if you book a room here then you should already know, its glorious inside, it's massive! Loved the continent location of the hotel across the road is the castle too, very close to the train station loved all the convince. Rooms need a refurb but the hotel staff do a wonderful job of cleaning. Bed is super comfy and the room is quite big, TV is basic freeview.

I had an excellent stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel welcome with their warm hospitality and professionalism. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and I truly appreciated how attentive and friendly everyone was throughout my stay. The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. The bed and linens were high quality, and I slept better here than I do at home! Small details, like complimentary water, good lighting, and thoughtful amenities, made a big difference. The location is perfect—close to everything I wanted to see, yet quiet enough for a restful night’s sleep. I also enjoyed the breakfast, which offered a great variety of fresh and tasty options. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations. The combination of excellent service, comfort, and convenience makes it a place I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. I’ll absolutely stay here again on my next trip!

The hotel itself was lovely despite a few issues on check in - namely that the room wasnt ready. When we were told that we could check in, I discovered that I had been given the incorrect room. The hotel reception staff were helpful and eventually found the room I had originally booked and we moved without much fuss. The one disappointing element of the stay was regarding having to pay £10 per adult to swim - granted I did not have to pay for my son but after paying near enough £150 already I was not best impressed at this additional and unexpected charge.

I really enjoyed my stay overall. The location was fantastic—on a beautiful street—and the hotel building itself is stunning. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by a very kind Italian gentleman, which gave me a great first impression. My room, though located in a separate area, was clean, modern, and nicely decorated. Everything looked fresh and well thought out. However, I was disappointed to find visible stains on the bed sheets. While I believe they had been washed, the stains hadn’t come out and the sheets were still used, which didn’t match the high standard the rest of the hotel presented. I think they should have replaced them. Another minor inconvenience was the bathroom light, which was automatic and triggered the extractor fan. This meant that even during the night, using the bathroom caused the noisy fan to stay on for a while, which could’ve been avoided with a manual light switch, in my opinion. Despite these issues, the stay was mostly very positive, but I can’t give a full five stars because of the sheets. Hopefully this can be improved for future guests.

Had a lovely stay here, hotel was closer to many thing for you to walk around 10min. Services from staff was good. Breakfast was alright and not too fancy. You can also access the pool and other facilities. Bed was okay and comfortable only downside is that they can only change the sheets after 3days not every day when room service does their day rounds. Overall I will definitely recommend. Will definitely visit again.

I have a really mixed feeling about this hotel. I booked the superior room with tree lined view and asked for a quiet room: the receptionist gave me an extremely cold and noisy room right next to the motorway and above some nightclubs. My watch has identified the noise level is over the normal limit. I couldn’t fall asleep due to the loud noise even at midnight. I called the receptionist to change a room. Unfortunately, they first gave me a standard room that the heating system was not working and much smaller than I have paid for. The two maintenance officers who came to check the heating system are very helpful and suggested to change to another room. Only by then, I was able to change to another room that matched the similar sized of a superior room, but without tree lined view. I must say that all the receptionists were friendly and polite but behind their friendliness, they are not really helpful at all. I had my dinner, a sea bass meal, at the restaurant - see the photo. The dinner and the service was both outstanding. The kettle in the room was not very clean; it could easily be cleaned by using small spray to remove the calcium. The gym and swimming pool are excellent. If you are not used to live in really loud room, please double check with the receptionists. It is also not worth to pay an extra 10 pounds per night to get a so called tree lined room with extreme loud noise. I also wonder the reason for the hotel to give customers rooms that the heating system are not working. It would helpful to check before they allocate room to customers. It would also helpful that the hotel ensure that the room has reasonable temperature before admitting guests, esp on a very cold winter night. Overall, this is not a very good experience. I was not able to sleep for a whole night. I paid extra in the hope of getting a better and quiet room but ended up with one of the worst room without getting any compensation.

I’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed. The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins. The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange. The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay. Can’t wait to go back.

I had asked if I could store my luggage a couple of hours before checking in. I cannot recall getting a confirmation of this, which would have notified me that there would be a charge of £5, which the receptionist informed me of when I arrived. Had I have known I would have made other arrangements and not wasted the journey and been inconvenienced. When I arrived a guest was complaining about how warm the rooms were and that the fans provided due nothing and that it was a possible health threat. I pointed out that there was a note on my booking about air conditioning being out of action or words to that effect but in theory, why is this not pointed out before the booking is made? It seems like you want the money and then expect us to jump though the hoops of trying to get a refund from the hotel and washing your hands of the situation as I found when I rang Trip.com - it should be a human right to have decent ventilation but with the hurdles you set in motion, it might be seen that you rely on people giving in and giving up to getting a refund on those grounds and so I did you a favour and stuck with it, fearing the worse for when I checked in later that evening. It could have been a lot better and it could have been worse. The general toilet and area on floor 2 was disgusting and had no toilet paper and seemed not to have been monitored regularly, when I went to use it after checking out. I’m amazed that there is a higher price tag shown to show the saving  on these rooms, in my estimation the lower price I paid should have been the higher price. The standards were so much better when it was The Big Sleep Hotel. *************
