Cheap Hotels in Datong

"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance to the center of Datong Ancient City. Fahua Temple, Nine-Dragon Wall, and Huayan Temple are all nearby. Kailu Restaurant inside the ancient city is quite good, while Fengling Pavilion is just okay. The room is spacious and very clean, and they even provided 2 complimentary drinks in the fridge. There's an underground parking garage with free parking; just scan a code when you leave. I personally really enjoyed the lamb offal soup with rice noodles for breakfast, ordered it two days in a row. The fruit was fresh and tasty. If you like street food, there's plenty right across the road, and it seemed quite popular. Overall, highly recommended."

"What a pleasant surprise this stay was! (´▽`) The location is excellent, right next to the district government and very close to the ancient city, making it super convenient for getting around. There's a delicious knife-cut noodle place nearby that opens at 6:30 AM, and the Tangjiu convenience store next door also opens early. The first floor has a lovely book bar where you can borrow books for free, and they serve coffee and cocktails – perfect for enjoying a drink while reading. So many interesting books too! I also really loved their decor; the tatami mat rooms have a dedicated reading table, and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The disposable amenities were comprehensive, and that horse oil toiletries set left me feeling moisturized inside and out (in a good way!). What really stood out during my stay were the front desk ladies. They were all so wonderful, always greeting us warmly when we returned. Their service was incredibly attentive and so heartwarming! 🥺 Any request we had was met quickly. Thanks to them, I've been sleeping so well these past few days 555. I really don't want to leave! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong. I've already highly recommended it to all my friends! (￣∇￣)"

"A very comfortable and satisfying hotel. I'll definitely stay here again when I revisit Datong! First, let's talk about the location. It's right next to the ancient city, so you can easily walk around and explore. I specifically requested a room with a view of the ancient city, and the night view was lovely. It's also very close to the scenic spot shuttle bus stop, making it super convenient to get to the Yungang Grottoes, Hanging Temple, and other attractions. Parking is easy, which is great for those arriving by car. You can park at the hotel and then comfortably walk around the ancient city or take the shuttle bus to Datong's famous surrounding attractions. The hotel staff were professional and enthusiastic, especially the lobby manager who was incredibly warm and helpful, offering excellent professional guidance for touring. Many thanks to them. By the way, the food, entertainment, and ancient architecture in Datong Ancient City are truly fantastic – I need to come back!"

"The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Datong Ancient City, making it convenient for sightseeing. It's also very close to the tourist shuttle stop for the Heyang Gate scenic area – just a 15-minute walk or a 7-yuan taxi ride, which is super convenient for independent travelers exploring the surrounding areas. The hotel service is great, truly befitting a five-star rating, and the rooms are clean. Breakfast is extensive and includes local specialty dishes. The 11th-floor Chinese restaurant offers good food at reasonable prices. Besides mineral water, we also received pear juice delivered to our room daily. The lobby reception staff and the housekeeping team on the non-smoking 22nd floor were all very welcoming and enthusiastic."

"Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn. The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit. Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful. As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing. I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland. Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

"I was planning to bring my child to Datong this time, and at first, I was worried that since it was located in Dongnanyi, it might be one of those hotels that look great in advertisements but are mediocre in reality. However, it completely exceeded my expectations! The courtyard is beautiful, with water, trees, and lovely scenery. Plus, as soon as we got off the high-speed train, there was a dedicated hotel staff member to pick us up. The business van was very spacious, and the staff was kind and patient. In the room, there was a complimentary fruit platter waiting for us. The service staff were all very attentive and responsible; they even waited for us to return at night. In the morning, they prepared breakfast for us, which was quite delicious. When we left, they even gave us two large bags of souvenirs. We truly experienced service that you wouldn't get at an ordinary hotel. This trip was absolutely worth it! I highly recommend it to everyone!"

"The hotel boasts an excellent location, with a Wanda Plaza nearby and several local restaurants like Fenglin Pavilion and Sandao Dishes. The complimentary shuttle service to and from the station was a huge plus for us. The front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The breakfast buffet was also very generous, and the room itself was clean and tidy. A truly fantastic hotel!"

"Traveling back to Inner Mongolia from the south, I could have stopped in Zhangjiakou for the night. But knowing Datong Hotel used to have bathtubs in its rooms, I decided to push on to Datong. Turns out, the bathtubs are gone, removed. (A bathtub, or the lack thereof, makes a difference in a hotel's class!) I asked the front desk, and they replied that many guests didn't like bathtubs. Do you honestly believe that 80% of guests, presumably referring to 'farmers' (a term the reviewer uses with a condescending tone, implying a certain demographic), dislike carpets? Are you going to remove all the carpets in Datong Hotel then? Do you believe that 50% of people dislike air conditioning? Are you going to rip out all the AC units too? At least keeping some rooms with bathtubs would have been an option. Besides, you can still shower in a bathtub. I can confidently say that the general manager of Datong Hotel understands neither hotels nor hotel management and operations. Are they just a mid-level bureaucrat from the state system?"
