"I chose Nan She for both of my trips to Datong, spaced about twenty days apart. The first time was by chance, but the second was a deliberate choice, both reflecting my high appreciation for every aspect of Nan She. It's located right beneath the North City Wall of the ancient city, close to Daiwang Mansion and Kuixing Tower. Its proximity to the main road makes getting around very convenient. The entrance to the North City Wall is just a few minutes' walk away, offering a superb spot to watch the sunset over the ancient city. The breakfast at the guesthouse is absolutely delicious. The rooms are spotless, and the bedding is clean; every detail is perfectly executed. The overall service is beyond words – attentive, warm, and thoughtful. Choosing the right accommodation is a crucial part of enhancing the travel experience, and both of my stays here provided an excellent one. Datong is a city you'll want to revisit; the more you get to know it, the more you'll love it. The blend of history and modernity, delicious food, and beautiful scenery offers endless appeal. "The service was genuinely excellent, especially Mia Nie, the duty manager at the front desk. She was incredibly accommodating to us. We were traveling with family, and the room she arranged was perfect. She even helped us look up our membership number. Her service was truly attentive, making our stay very pleasant and our experience top-notch!"

"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn. The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit. Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful. As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing. I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland. Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

"This is my review of the Datong Yungang Grand Hotel, newly built in 2022 and ranking among the top ten in Datong. Here's my experience: First, the pros: The room size met expectations, especially the king-size bed which was a generous 2.2 meters – I really liked that. The decor is European style, with a color scheme conducive to relaxation and appropriate lighting. Plus, it features Xiaomi's smart home system. Now for the cons: It started with the front desk. It was often impossible to get through on the phone. I had noted my requests when booking and communicated with the hotel in advance, but when I checked in, the front desk informed me they couldn't accommodate my requests. I feel they could have notified me of this beforehand. As a high-end hotel, the overall service quality is simply substandard. The person who checked me in was even a manager, yet showed no apology throughout and was incredibly arrogant, clearly not prioritizing the guest's experience. Next, food delivery: I ordered takeout because it was late when I checked in. While I understand that high-end hotels might not allow delivery drivers to bring food to the room, couldn't they arrange for a delivery robot or staff member to deliver it? I had to rush out to collect my food after showering, which completely goes against the standard of a high-end hotel. Then, the breakfast arrangement: The layout and food items were severely disorganized and chaotic. It clearly wasn't professionally arranged, making the entire breakfast experience very messy. Finally, issues within the room: The amenities provided were very basic and completely mismatched with the hotel's caliber. The toilet was an old model, not a smart one. What puzzled me most was that the toilet seat wasn't a standard size, so my disposable toilet covers didn't fit, and the hotel didn't provide any matching ones. This was incredibly frustrating and hard to comprehend. Also, as shown in my picture of the bathroom, the toiletries were extremely basic and very sparse, only enough for two showers for one person, and the product quality was mediocre. The same issue applied to the bathtub; I think the hotel should provide disposable tub liners and bath products. Overall, this stay did not live up to the hotel's supposed standard. I hope they improve promptly!"

"This hotel is located within the ancient city walls and has its own restaurant, serving a good breakfast. I booked a Ryan twin room this time, which had an external window that could be opened – great for when it got too warm at night. The hotel is just across the street from Huayan Temple and isn't far from popular spots like Xijin Dao, Fengling Pavilion, and Zini 369, making it super convenient for getting around. They even offered extra bottles of water at check-in. The cleaning staff not only tidied up but also folded my pajamas, which was a lovely touch."

"The hotel lobby is grand, perhaps reflecting the local aesthetic with its minority architectural style – tall and impressive. The hotel isn't in the ancient city, so we had to take a taxi there every day, which took about 10-15 minutes. The service was excellent; they delivered a fruit plate daily, which was a very thoughtful touch. Although the hotel has been around for many years, the decor doesn't feel dated. The value for money here is outstanding. Aside from its distance from the ancient city, it completely exceeded expectations for the price. I would definitely choose Yungang Jianguo again when I next visit Datong."

"Excellent hotel with a very stylish design. The rooms are large and beautiful, and the buffet restaurant has a trendy design, although it can get quite crowded. The best part, which deserves special mention, is the Fenglin Pavilion restaurant on the first floor, where you can enjoy authentic Shanxi cuisine. "Highly recommended! A rated five-star hotel truly lives up to its name. We arrived quite early and there wasn't a suitable room available, so they immediately upgraded us to a larger room (which was perfectly spacious). All our daily needs were met, and they even offered pear soup at night because Datong's weather is so dry, showing great respect for every guest. The breakfast buffet was absolutely fine in terms of quality (there's a photo of the breakfast knife-cut noodle chef). I also particularly recommend the hotel's Chinese restaurant (there's a photo of us taking food to go for our high-speed train). On our last day, we were rushing from Datong back to Beijing to catch our high-speed train. We misjudged our time at Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Temple, but still wanted to enjoy Datong cuisine on the train. We went to the hotel's Chinese restaurant, and the lady who greeted us was incredibly warm and efficient. The chefs were also super impressive, preparing our desired dishes for takeout in just 20 minutes. We made it to the train just in time and enjoyed a fantastic meal on board. I just had to leave a review – our Datong trip was perfect! (There are photos of cats at various attractions)."

"Visited Datong with my parents during the May Day holiday. **Environment:** The hotel's location is excellent. It's just a 10-minute walk to the ancient city. Downstairs, you'll find Beiwei Jiayan and Hongya Restaurant, and Lao Chai Noodles is only five minutes away. **Facilities:** The hotel is quite new and very well-maintained. Both my parents found their stay very comfortable. The front desk staff were also very welcoming and even gave us some local Datong specialty souvenirs. The hotel's breakfast was great, with a wide variety of options, including freshly made local specialties like刀削面 (daoxiao mian, knife-cut noodles) and lamb offal soup."
