For our last night in Hokkaido, we drove all the way from Kushiro to this small hotel in Biei. The hotel was tiny, and although it had a second floor, there was no elevator. The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and even helped us carry our luggage, which made us feel a bit embarrassed. Our room came with a private open-air onsen, so it was quite spacious, but the futon mattress was a little hard. It made me miss my smart electric mattress back home! The food here was also great; both breakfast and dinner were typical Japanese cuisine, perfectly to my liking. Definitely recommended!

The room layout was a bit odd, with a partition in the middle, which I wasn't entirely happy with. For dinner, we had French cuisine. I saw reviews on Xiaohongshu saying it wasn't good, and while it wasn't amazing, it wasn't bad either. Breakfast options were also limited. The outdoor hot spring was a bit cold, but the scenery was nice. The best thing about this hotel is definitely the view; it feels like an 'Overlook Hotel' from a snowy mountain, and the atmosphere is really great.

Guest UserBecause all the rooms were fully booked, I chose a dormitory room with eight beds. The beds were all large, and I didn't feel cramped even when sitting.
The bathroom is public; if you shower early, you can have one to yourself. I was worried about showering at the same time as others, so I showered early. The toilets are large, and there are laundry facilities; laundry detergent costs 100 yen.
Even in the rooms, the bathroom and toilet are shared.
The staff were very helpful and nice.
You can order their dinner, but I brought my own. There's a shared kitchen for cooking, and a refrigerator for storing food, but it was already crammed full.

Rosi22Beautiful 大雪 area with sulfur smelling natural onsen water. Nice outdoor onsen, fireplace, lounge area for free drinks including sake, beer, wine, gelato, soft serve ice cream, good finger foods.
The unrenovated areas are old looking.
There are many tour groups each day and dinner time especially feels very crowded as if you are a member of their tour group. Not a very pleasant experience but food quite ok.
In terms of service, all the female staff were helpful and friendly especially the female supervisor at the check in counter, she was helpful and very dedicated. However I had an unpleasant experience with a male supervisor when checking in, very unfriendly, told me no kettle in room can be provided while later I found out there are kettles. It made the overall experience very negative and the tone of voice was very unpleasant. Maybe he is overworked so I didn't take it personally but this kind of service is very unusual in Japan or anywhere in the world at this level of accommodation.
Not sure if will go back again or recommend to family or friends.

This is a little gem in Biei. It gave me cute little cozy wooden hut in the snow kind of vibe. Iooking out from the dining area and our room, the view was fantastic and breathtaking. Few things to highlight
1. Affordable cost.
2. Quite and peaceful space where you can sink in and enjoy at your own pace
3. Beautiful snowy farm view
4. Clean and spacious room
5. Polite and thoughtful staffs who can communicate in Mandarin is a plus point
6. Complimentary breakfast made by the chef was yummy. Thanks to the chef who also specially prepared a vegan set meal for my mother
7. Coffee beans, coffee grinder and tools for drip coffee making is prepared in the room for guests
8. Spacious parking space
However, for old people who are weak and unfit to carry heavy luggages up and down the stairs might suffer a little as the hotel doesn't have a lift access to the bedrooms on the second floor..
The hotel bed is not as comfortable as other hotels in Japan.
Overall, I love my stay in this hotel and would be glad to revisit this place.

From the moment the shuttle picked us up from the Tabist Hotel in Asahikawa to our check-in, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We accidentally left our thermos on the shuttle, and they quickly retrieved it for us. The onsen (hot spring bath) itself had a distinct sulfur smell, which I absolutely loved! The bingo game at 8 PM (500 yen per card) really got the atmosphere going. The only downside was dinner; when we arrived around 6:45 PM, almost all the food was gone. A large tour group arrived shortly after, and even then, the food wasn't replenished. They just brought out fried chicken wings and fried fish, and even drinks weren't restocked in time. We ended up just eating ice cream, which made us feel colder and colder. It felt like they were afraid of people actually eating, which I really disliked. I would have been more impressed with a kaiseki meal in that situation.
However, what I really need to complain about is the 'Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival.' It's unacceptable that just because we arrived on the last day, there was absolutely nothing left. All the attractions were gone, leaving only sponsor flags. How many fireworks were there? If the organizers charge an entry fee, shouldn't there be corresponding insurance? There wasn't any. I know that ice sculptures can be slippery, but simply throwing down a few plastic anti-slip mats isn't a proper solution. I had to keep reminding my elderly companions, 'Watch your step!' Unfortunately, one of our elders still fell. When we asked the event staff for assistance, we were told that since we were independent travelers, only our own insurance would cover it. The most they could do was have our hotel staff call an ambulance. Is that right? The rest of our trip was completely ruined because of this... completely ruined.

kanganI really felt the hospitality, especially with services like the shuttle bus to Aoi Pond. The food was delicious, with many dishes showing a lot of care in their creation. It was a bit disappointing that the coffee and bread served were the standard factory-made items often found in business hotels. Given the great location, I think it would be even better if they offered Hokkaido-sourced wheat bread or original coffee.

Convenient location close to the ropeway and public transportation. The hotel is a little dated though. There are indoor and outdoor onsens but the outdoor onsen is opened to male and female on different dates. The hotel provides shuttle bus service to take you to their nearby sister hotel which has outdoor onsen throughout the week. The buffet breakfast and dinner are very average so don't expect much. The reception hardly speaks any English or Chinese so be prepared to use a translating App.
