If you are from Singapore and plan to visit Xi'an, you should know that Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is where you should fly into.
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) Overview
The Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (IATA: XIY, ICAO: ZLXY) is located between Xi'an and Xianyang cities. It is approximately 40 kilometres north-west of central Xi'an. Main Chinese airlines include China Eastern Airlines, Air China, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, etc.
👍Pro Tip: When planning your visit, consider booking your flights to Xi‘an early to snag the best deals and keep an eye out for promotions.
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport has grown quickly over the past few years. It now has four passenger terminals: T1, T2, T3 and T5.
Terminal 1 (T1)
The oldest terminal. It was recently renovated and reactivated. It primarily serves regional domestic flights and selected low-cost carrier routes.
Terminal 2 (T2)
This terminal is mid-sized. It handles some flights within China. It houses airline lounges, medical centres, luggage services and a full range of dining options.
Terminal 3 (T3)
This was previously the main terminal. It is where Air China, China Southern, Hainan Airlines and Spring Airlines operate their flights.
Terminal 5 (T5)
Terminal 5 is made to handle an additional 50 million annual passengers. Terminal 5 is the place for all international flights and China Eastern Airlines flights inside the country.
A free shuttle bus runs all day every day to take you between terminals. It leaves every 10–15 minutes from 5 am to midnight. The trip between T1 and T2 takes about 5 minutes, while connections to T3 take 8–10 minutes, and T5 connections take 15–20 minutes.
You can also use Metro Line 14 to get to the city centre from the airport. The metro station is connected to Terminal 3. There are also buses that can take you from T1, T2 and T5.

👉Pro Tip: For a convenient stay, look for Xi'an hotels in advance to secure the best rates.
These shops are for people who are flying out of the country. They have a lot of things like cosmetics, perfumes, alcohol, tobacco and nice things from Gucci/Burberry/Montblanc. The prices for some skincare and perfume brands at the Duty-Free Shops are pretty good compared to the stores in Singapore.
Local Souvenirs
There are shops in all the terminals that sell Local Souvenirs that're special to Xi'an. The local souvenirs shops have lots of things, like Terracotta Warrior figurines, replica bronze artifacts, Shaanxi paper-cutting art, walnuts, dried persimmons and Qin Dynasty-themed souvenirs.
Yes. Car rental counters are located on the ground floor of T3. To rent a vehicle, you must hold a valid temporary Chinese driving licence — international driving permits are not recognised in China.
What time do inter-terminal shuttle buses stop running overnight?
Free inter-terminal shuttle buses run 24/7 all year round. While standard daytime frequency is every 10–15 minutes, after midnight the service reduces to one bus every 30 minutes to accommodate late incoming international flights from Southeast Asia, including routes originating from Singapore.
How early should I arrive for my return flight to Singapore during peak holiday seasons?
During Chinese national holidays (October Golden Week, Lunar New Year) and Singapore school holiday travel windows, immigration and security queues at T5 expand significantly. We recommend arriving at the airport a full 3.5 hours prior to scheduled take-off to avoid missing your flight back to Changi Airport.
How do I get from Xi'an Airport to the Terracotta Army?
The Terracotta Army is located about 50–65 kilometres from the airport, depending on the route. The most convenient options are: taking a taxi or private transfer directly (about 1–1.5 hours), or taking the metro to Xi'an North Station and then a tourist bus or taxi to the site.
