Mercure Xi'an Downtown

Unfortunately i didn't take many pictures but recorded videos. I booked a room type as shown in the first but received something smaller as the one in the second pic, weirdly cut. I didn't notice it as first as i was distracted by the strong smoke smell and asked the lady to change, who tried to sell me a qin shi huang mausoleum tour. Then i was brought to a room type as the one in the first pic, that's when i realised that's what i initially had booked... but there was still a smoke smell and as i really had to use the toilet i simply thought of using the A/C and opening the window, hoping it'd get better. By the evening i got startled by someone knocking at the door only to realise it was someone knocking on my neighbouring door. That's when i realised there was a 1-2cm gap between the floor and door and why i heard that loud knock. I also noticed neighbouring doors were fine and even asked the neighbouring guests if they could hear me. Anyway; that's when i demanded for a second change and only then, when i was a bit assertive and insisting on a new room, did i get a proper room. But there was small issue with the 3rd room too, with the drainage as the water took around 5mins to flow away, making noise. But that wasn't an big issue. It seems like this hotel seems to follow the procedure to give problematic rooms to customers who seem easy-going, which is a known tactic to chinese people from china but not so to foreigners. Beside of that, my stay was pleasant, the breakfast was rich and they have a big variety. I just think it was a bit of a waste of time trying to sell those tobacco smell rooms to me. You can easily fix those by endorsing proper no smoking rules or use a filter machine before, removing smoke. Beside of the convenience as it's really close to all main attractions i just find those actions subpar. Which is an issue with whoever decides to implement such strategies.

I had such a great stay — the room was modern, spotless, and super comfortable. The huge shower room was the best part! The staff were absolutely wonderful and big thanks to them for offering an upgrade which made the stay extra pleasant. The location of the hotel made exploring the key attractions a breeze. It has convenient access the metro as well. Breakfast had a nice mix of local and international dishes. The overall vibe was warm and welcoming, making it a place I’d happily return to and recommend to others.

Location and the cleanliness and newness of the rooms were the best features of staying here. We’re so glad they had complimentary laundry washer and dryer for us to use so we can stay fresh for our trip!
