Kunming is the capital of Yunnan, famous for its diverse cross-border cuisine and fresh ingredients, and the airport's dining outlets perfectly showcase local food alongside familiar international brands.
Local Yunnan Cuisine (Highly Recommended)
Authentic Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles (过桥米线), steam pot chicken, Yunnan-style rice dishes and various mushroom specialties are served at food courts in both domestic and international areas. Most local restaurants allow you to customise your order – remember to say "bù là" (no spice) if you cannot handle chilli, though Yunnan food is generally milder than Sichuan cuisine. Meals cost roughly CNY 30–60 (S$5.70–11.40) per person.
International & Quick Bites
Global chain restaurants including Starbucks, KFC, McDonald's and Pacific Coffee operate across the terminal. Convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and FamilyMart are on every floor, selling packaged snacks, drinks and ready-to-eat meals for quick bites, priced from CNY 10–25 (S$1.90–4.70).
Lounges & Rest Areas at Kunming Airport
For travellers seeking extra comfort during long waits or overnight layovers, KMG offers multiple lounge and rest choices:
Airline Exclusive Lounges

Paid Public Lounges
Plaza Premium Lounge is open to all passengers for a one-time fee of CNY 160–320 (S$30.40–60.80). It features buffet meals, hot beverages, shower rooms and quiet work corners, a great choice for long layovers.

Overnight Layover Tips
Kunming Airport terminals operate 24 hours, so you can stay inside the airport for overnight layovers without worrying about closing times. The quiet zones near the international gates are less crowded at night, with comfortable seating and lighting. For a more restful sleep, book a paid lounge or nap chairs. If you prefer a proper bed, find hotels near Kunming Airport for a smooth transfer.
These shops are for people who are flying out of the country. They have a lot of things like cosmetics, perfumes, alcohol, tobacco and nice things from Gucci/Burberry/Montblanc. The prices for some skincare and perfume brands at these shops are pretty good compared to the stores in Singapore too.
Local Souvenirs
There are shops in all the areas that sell things that are special to Yunnan. You can buy Pu'er tea, flower cakes, ethnic minority handicrafts, jade jewellery, and coffee beans from Yunnans highlands. These things from Yunnan are great to bring to your family and friends in Singapore because they are light and really special.
Yes. Car rental counters are located on the ground floor of the main terminal. To rent a vehicle, you must hold a valid temporary Chinese driving licence — international driving permits are not recognised in China. Most rental cars are manual transmission; automatic models cost extra. It is recommended to book in advance via travel platforms for better rates. Note that Yunnan's mountain roads require careful driving, especially if you plan to visit Dali or Lijiang.
What time does the metro stop running from the airport?
Metro Line 6 from Kunming Airport runs from approximately 06:20 to 22:00 daily. The last metro back to the airport departs from the city at around 21:30. If your flight arrives after 22:00 or departs before 06:30, you will need to take a taxi, DiDi or airport bus instead.
How early should I arrive for my return flight to Singapore during peak holiday seasons?
