First time staying in this room. Wanted to check in at 11.30am. Bt room is not ready until 12.30pm, thankfully. Truly enjoy the peace and quiet on the 27th floor. WiFi connection is strong too. Didn't take the breakfast option this time round. Husband managed to take the opportunity to go to the swimming. Its quite full of ppl on the saturday. But managed to get basic swimming done. Except I gt smthg to complain the fridge is not cold and the tv has 1 black line across the middle of the screen. If given option. I will probably pick the same type of room again.👍

Our whole family loves staying at this hotel. We were originally planning to book a serviced apartment this time, but our child really loves AMARI, so we ended up choosing it again. It turns out our choice was right, and we're as satisfied as ever. The only drawback was that one of the three elevators was out of order, so we had to wait a long time to go up and down. 😂

The room was really fantastic—very spacious with a well-designed layout, and the bed was super comfortable with just the right firmness. I must give a special shout-out to the front desk service; they tried their best to accommodate all our requests 👍 and had a wonderful attitude. The breakfast had a decent variety and plenty of options. There weren't many Chinese dishes, but the Western selection was extensive and more than enough! The Thai milk tea was delicious, and the egg station was located just outside the restaurant, offering omelets, sunny-side-up eggs, tea eggs, and soft-boiled eggs 😊, alongside congee and noodles. As for the location, you need to take a taxi to nearby malls, but it's very convenient—just a 5-10 minute ride, and fares in Malaysia are quite cheap. I would definitely stay here again next time!

We booked a stay at Fraser Place Puteri Harbour for 3 people to celebrate my wife’s birthday and opted to pay extra for a room with a ”Sea View.” We also reached out beforehand to ask for a small birthday surprise for her. Unfortunately, the ”sea view” was a major letdown. Instead of an open, pleasant coastal view, it was mostly looking out over surrounding developments and construction with very little actual water in sight—definitely not what you hope for when booking a special occasion room. On a positive note, I do want to give credit to the hotel staff for their service and effort. They did prepare a birthday cake for my wife as requested. While it wasn't set up in the room prior to our arrival as hoped—it showed up in our fridge on the second day after we returned from our day out—we still really appreciate that they remembered and made the gesture.

The location is good, about a 15-minute walk from the checkpoint, which isn't too far. There's a 99 (store) next door. The only thing is that there's no hairdryer in the room, so you need to bring your own, or perhaps I just didn't ask the front desk for one.

Location was amazing! Host was responsive and very helpful:) There was a strong smell of smoke, probably by the previous occupant, and a big pail of water was left in the toilet to shower with cause the shower head not working but we eventually used the rain shower cause that was working so the host managed to engage housekeeping to spray the apartment and to remove the pail:) Though, this trip wasn’t as pleasant as before.. the bidet leaking badly, ventilation fan in toilet was super noisy, water tank for the toilet bowl was also very loud and no table clothes to use to wipe down the tables after use.. these were the negatives but overall, with the host this helpful and responsive, I will definitely stay again cause they’ve been very kind to manage our needs:)

Just less than 10 min walk via a covered shelter all the way to the hotel after cleaning the Malaysian Customs. The hotel is very conveniently located, with restaurants, hair salons and massage places to choose from nearly. Our check in was delayed by an hour. However, we didn't expect the hotel offered us complimentary high tea for four and late check out, a big thumbs up for the excellent service. Overall, the hotel is definitely showing its age 😂 Some parts could really use a refresh — the elevators were a little creaky, some of the lift flooring was already coming apart, and we did notice some mould in the bathroom. The shower could also be improved. The water pressure was quite weak, and even with the heater on, the water was basically room temperature at best. There was also some kind of automatic spraying system in the room that was surprisingly loud whenever it went off, although we eventually got used to it. Our room didn’t have the nicest view either, unfortunately. That being said, for an overnight stay, it was still perfectly livable and did the job. The location was convenient, and the staff were nice and pleasant throughout our stay. The saving grace was honestly the breakfast! 😂 There was a teh tarik cart that came around with its own background music, which was SUCH a vibe. There was also someone walking around with a tray of French toast serving guests, and those little touches made the whole breakfast experience unexpectedly fun and memorable. Overall, I wouldn’t expect anything luxurious as the property is clearly on the older side and could use some renovation, but it’s convenient and perfectly okay for a short overnight stay. The friendly staff and breakfast experience definitely helped make the stay much better!

Great stay at Z Hotel – Highly recommended The Good: • Smooth Process: Seamless check-in and a very fast refund of the 100 RM deposit at check-out. • Spacious Room (15th Floor): Located at the end of the hall with a great view of the SG-bound traffic jam. Comes with a combined pantry/open wardrobe space, a dressing table with a mirror, and a small resting table. • Bathroom: The sink basin area is nice and wide. • Great Location & Parking: Walking distance to many eating places. Includes a drop-off point and a car lift leading to 3 floors of secure parking (at least 9 lots per level). • Extra Facilities: Equipped with a gym and a ballroom. Things to Note: • The aircon takes quite a while to cool the room down. There is a ceiling fan, but it had no remote control (likely available upon request). • The shower water pressure is on the slower side, though still acceptable.

This was my second time staying at New York Hotel. This time, I stayed in a Family Room. We originally had three people, and after added an extra bed. The price was still quite reasonable, and breakfast was included, which was a good value. The breakfast was one of the highlights of my stay. There were many choices, including local Malaysian favourites such as roti prata, nasi lemak, porridge, and more. I really enjoyed having so many different options. My favourite part of the hotel is definitely the indoor swimming pool. The hotel also has a gym and jacuzzi, which are great facilities for relaxing and enjoying some downtime. The Family Room was very spacious, and the view was beautiful. The location is also convenient, making it easy to get around and access nearby places. However, there are still some areas that need improvement. The shower mat was quite dirty, which was disappointing. Also, out of the three towels provided, two of them had a very strong unpleasant smell. I hope the hotel can pay more attention to the cleanliness and freshness of the towels and bathroom items. Another thing I found inconvenient was that there were only two charging sockets in the room, and one of them was located in the bathroom. For a family room, I think having more charging points would be much more convenient for guests. Overall, I still enjoyed my stay because of the spacious room, beautiful view, good breakfast, indoor swimming pool, gym and jacuzzi. However, I hope the hotel can improve the cleanliness of the bathroom items, the smell of the towels, and provide more convenient charging points.

Overall resort is acceptable, room is spacious, food is okay, location wise so so, pool is big. The baby pool was quite dirty. Noticed black grime between the tiles. Please pay a bit more attention when cleaning the baby pool, especially since it’s meant for young kids. Room’s shower have leaking. Called the staff, and they fixed immediately with glue. But the smell of the glue make the toilet stink for the whole night. Staffs are helpful and friendly. The indoor playground and breakfast for kids under 6 require an additional charge. We didn’t realize the indoor playground wasn’t free because the ads in the hallway didn’t mention it. The location is great, very convenient for driving to Sutera Mall and nearby areas. It's a quiet hotel nestled in a bustling area. There are also plenty of food options nearby, like R&C, Ah Shui Durian, and Yu Xiao Er. If you don't have a car, there's a large food court downstairs that's open very late; I once saw it still lit up past midnight when I returned to the hotel. Next to the hotel, there's also an indoor badminton court and a McDonald's (inside the petrol station), so it's super convenient overall. The hotel also has pools for both kids and adults, a gym, and a conference room. The biggest advantage of this hotel is the incredible water pressure – showering is a real pleasure. This is a nice apartment hotel with no room service nor lobby, suitable for families especially with kids. The place is clean when we checked in, and the diy checkin is quite intuitive wth good instructions. For its price during non-peak, there’s little to complain. When it comes to peak though, prices soars, and the number of guests creates a jam at the lift access to the 39 floor apartment rooms. During our stay, one lift was down and with only 3/4 lifts, the waiting time during checkin and checkout is very very long. Hot water the shower is centralised and not reliable at all. A very clean capsule and bed to stay! The auntie uncle provided towel to shower as well! They have 4 games (wukong, it takes two, race car and etc)in their PS5, just a bit trouble to connect the Netflix because of the household settings. The computer all good, a lot of game inside and able use steam and riot, just all in Chinese language but can try to change a bit. An important things to say we are so lucky because we own the whole room (normal will be 8pax = 4 capsules)hahahah just because weekday are not busy than weekends!

Here are some options to consider.

  • Look for current certification. If halal certification is a requirement, verify the restaurant's current status rather than relying on older reviews.
  • Check the buffet menu. Ask about meat suppliers, sauces, marinades and cooking arrangements if you have specific dietary requirements.
  • Confirm the meal session. Some restaurants offer buffet service only during selected periods or special promotions.

Best Time to Visit JB for Buffet Dining

For a more relaxed buffet experience, consider visiting Johor Bahru on a weekday. Restaurants may be less crowded than during peak periods, and some hotel buffets offer lower weekday rates.

Timing

What to expect

Planning tip

Weekday lunch

Potentially lower prices at selected hotel restaurants

Compare lunch and dinner rates

Weekday dinner

A quieter alternative to busy weekend dining, depending on the venue

Reserve if the restaurant is popular

Friday evening

Higher demand and potentially heavy checkpoint traffic

Cross the border earlier

Saturday and Sunday

Popular time for family meals and group celebrations

Book in advance

School holidays and long weekends

Increased demand for transport, shopping and dining

Allow extra travel time

Festive periods

Special menus and themed buffets may be available

Check seasonal announcements early

Hotels in JB sometimes introduce special dining experiences during Ramadan, Chinese New Year and other festive periods. These may feature seasonal dishes, live cooking stations and larger spreads than the regular buffet menu.

However, festive buffets are not always cheaper than standard dining sessions. Compare the price, menu and promotion terms before deciding whether the special experience is worth it.

Tips for Making the Most of Your JB Buffet Experience

A little planning can make your buffet trip more enjoyable especially if you are crossing the border just for a meal.

  1. Reserve your table in advance: Hotel buffets, premium Japanese restaurants and weekend seafood dinners can fill up quickly. Confirm your booking and arrival time before travelling.
  2. Check the current price: Look at the latest menu, buffet session, child rates and package inclusions. Confirm whether the quoted amount includes taxes and service charges.
  3. Compare exchange rates: Check the SGD-to-MYR rate offered by your bank, card provider or money changer. The displayed rate may differ from the actual rate you receive after fees.
  4. Dress appropriately: Casual or smart-casual clothing is generally suitable for most hotel buffets. Check the restaurant's dress code if you are attending a special dining event.
  5. Arrive on time: Arriving early can help you settle in before your reservation and enjoy the buffet within the allotted dining period.
  6. Check the time limit: Some all-you-can-eat restaurants impose a fixed dining duration. Ask about refill rules and any additional charges for food wastage.
  7. Understand halal status: Halal-certified, pork-free and non-halal are not interchangeable descriptions. Verify the restaurant's certification directly if it matters to your dining choice.
  8. Check the location before leaving Singapore: JB is larger than it may appear on a map. A restaurant in Taman Daya or Permas Jaya may require a longer ride than one near JB Sentral.
  9. Plan your return journe:. Allow enough time for immigration queues and transport connections, particularly if you need to return to Singapore at a specific time.
