Eastern & Oriental Hotel

This was my third stay at The Eastern & Oriental Hotel, and the ambiance is simply wonderful. The vintage Straits Chinese style is perfect for photos. The breakfast selection is extensive, and this time I even tried their afternoon tea. Excellent value for money! The staff are warm and attentive. I'll definitely choose The Eastern & Oriental Hotel again on my next trip to Penang.

Chose this hotel for our family vacation, it's a lovely seaside resort. It's perfect for families traveling with kids. Even though the prices were a bit high during summer, we still opted for a suite which included breakfast and happy hour.

This hotel is absolutely worth staying at! The heritage wing's design is exquisite, like a small museum waiting to be explored. While the rooms do have a noticeable historical feel, a bit old with some creaky noises and dated switches, this rich historical ambiance and style are precisely what make this hotel so special. Plus, guests in the old wing get fantastic perks: a generous minibar with wine, snacks, and a full range of beers, sodas, and juices, along with happy hour benefits, and even the daily newspaper delivered each morning with a lovely ritual. The pool and sea view are simply unbeatable. Breakfast in the old wing is à la carte and tastes great, though the dining area is quite small, so you might have a long wait. If that's an issue, you can always head to the new wing for their buffet breakfast instead.

Luxury hotels are luxurious for a reason – beautiful pool, extensive breakfast, and excellent service. It truly lives up to its reputation as Penang's top-tier hotel, very impressive! The only minor issue is that the toilet is a bit old.

The hotel offers three breakfast restaurants, which was perfect since we stayed for three nights – we got to try a different one each day, and the food was delicious! The kids absolutely loved it. You can see the Strait of Malacca from the hotel, and it was lovely to take an evening stroll with my family. Plus, this hotel has hosted many famous figures like Sun Yat-sen, Charlie Chaplin, and Michelle Yeoh. Highly recommend!

Staying at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang feels a bit like a buffet – you get a lot for your money, but the quality is just okay. As a Heritage Wing guest, you get to experience a bit of everything for free, which makes it great value for money.

This hotel offers incredible value for money! For 1200 RMB, I got a room with a sea view balcony and a spacious shower – absolutely perfect 💯. It's super close to the Blue Mansion; you can just exit the heritage wing lobby, cross the street where there's a HeyTea and a bar street, and then cross another street near a gas station, and you'll be right at the Blue Mansion and the Red Garden food market. Many famous people have stayed here, and it beautifully blends history with modern touches, all while having that lovely Nanyang resort vibe. I'll definitely be staying here again on my next trip to Penang!

Exceeded expectations, even though I had high hopes. Facilities: Like a hotel straight out of an Agatha Christie novel, with a strong Victorian vibe. Cleanliness: Housekeeping daily. Environment: High ceilings on every floor, very grand. Service: Excellent.

The room was beautifully vintage and spacious, leaving an amazing first impression. However, on the first night, the sheets had stains as pictured, and after reporting it, they were changed the next day. On the morning of the third day, I found what looked like mouse droppings on the balcony floor (pictured in image 4). I recognized them because I used to own hamsters; otherwise, I wouldn't have thought it. But the hotel denied it was mouse droppings, suggesting it might be bird droppings, as they had just disinfected a few days prior. Additionally, at breakfast, a middle-aged female server roughly cleared our plates without asking, making a lot of noise. This contrasted sharply with another younger, seemingly Indian male server who was smiling and polite when offering service. The hotel's response to these issues was just an apology and cleaning the balcony, which felt very perfunctory.
