It's alright, about a 10-minute drive from where you can see the penguins. The only downside is that the kitchen utensils are a bit sparse – not even a single knife, just one pair of scissors. I'd suggest the hotel at least provides a knife set. Also, there were only two hangers, which wasn't enough. The bed was quite comfortable. The water pressure was very low, so I didn't even bother showering that day.
The hotel environment is quite good. Each room comes with a dedicated parking space, which is great for families. The rooms are spacious, clean, and tidy. The kitchen equipment is limited and quite basic. I highly recommend the breakfast place right outside the hotel, Pembroke Pâtisserie – it's absolutely delicious!
Room facilities: The triple room was a bit small, and the window on the first floor didn't get much natural light (it faced a wall). We found some dander and hair on the beds, though not a lot.
Service attitude: The staff at check-in were very friendly. The hotel is spread out like a 'resort' with many buildings. Staff marked our room location on a map and showed us how to get there (it wasn't far, just a short walk of a few dozen seconds). Both check-in and check-out were very convenient.
Hotel location: You have to walk up a small slope to get to the hotel, but it's not too tiring. The overall location is good (very close to the skyline) and it's very quiet. It's also not far from the town.
the room was clean but quite cramped - lots of clutter in the kitchen and things were not labelled. perhaps if solo you could put up with it but with a small group it is not as tolerable.
This was my second time staying here, and it was just as good as the first. The chalet was different from my previous stay, but the quality remained excellent—clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The experience was just as enjoyable, proving that this place is consistently reliable. Will definitely return again!
The hotel itself is a bit dated, but the room condition was acceptable. However, on the day we checked in, we found that the trash from the previous guest hadn't been emptied, and some of their belongings were still in the room. The hotel charges an additional $25 for parking, but street parking is free after 6 PM. The complimentary breakfast had very limited options and the food was quite salty.
One of the best hotels of our stay, a extraordinary apartment and space a fabulous location. What probably does it dessert is that the check in is made in autonomy and that it is not warned when booking but well organized with your key and your name in a safe box in any case until the time of opening of the booking. The hotel is open up to 18:00, there seems to be a Reception on the first floor, but we haven't seen anyone, you are answered by the phone if necessary . , However, forget the Parking which is a priori always full (it is easy to park around and not cheap) but beyond these last details, you can go closed your eyes, it's an excellent price quality ratio!
There are independent cabins, high privacy, spacious places, and easy to get to the lake. Facilities need to be improved, kitchen utensils are not provided in the kitchen, and hot water baths have to be paid for. In terms of service, sometimes customers are not taken into account, and the toilet is cleaned before the check out time, which is very inconvenient for customers in need.
Parking space is very limited, stop opposite the hotel roadside, need to walk a long way, the bathroom in the room is hot when cold, the restaurant is not much dining, it is good to sit outdoor dining, thank you for being arranged to stay in the lower bunk, because it is very late to stay, overall it is OK
Really nice looking room and a very good price performance ratio. And you even get a complimentary drink. Room was nice and warm upon arrival. I didnt really understand the self checkin for a second, cause i didnt know the rooms were directly at the parkinglot, where the whiteboards and the name are written. Really easy and useful for a fast checkin and checkout. I would stay there again.

GGuest UserI've stayed here many times before, but this was by far the worst experience. Check-in has always been self-service on an iPad. However, this time, just as I was about to finish checking in and grab my room key, the front desk suddenly came over and asked to see my ID. She held my New Zealand driver's license for ages, and I had no idea what she was even looking at. Then, after I got to my room, the sheets were really dirty – I couldn't tell if it was blood or what. All in all, a truly terrible experience.
DDracarys121212This is my first time staying at a hostel as I always stay in hotels when I travel but NZ is way out of my budget to get a hotel for 8 days of stay. I am surprised that there is free basic spices if you opt to cook and you should to save money and they also have free spread for your sandwiches you can use and free coffee. Free bodywash by the hostel and you can also use the conditioner and other shampoos that other guests left when they check-out for fr e. They also have charger you can borrow. The 4square grocery is very close like 2-3 min walking distance and other restaurants. I have 8 days so I am staying here in Haka house Queenstown, the on in mount cook ( which doesn’t have all these free spices and I think because how far grocery store is) and my last remaining days I will try Haka by the lake front. I don’t have hostel pics so sharing with you my view from Queenstown Hill viewpoint.
JJulesTAt first glance, the place seems lovely and inviting. However, on closer inspection, there are quite a few maintenance issues that need attention. Several lights weren’t working (only about 2 out of 5), the carpet wasn’t as clean as it initially appeared, and there was mould in the shower. There are also signs of wear such as plastering around the sink, and the hairdryer made an unhealthy noise when used. The toilet bolts were loose, which was concerning.
The bathroom lacks an extractor fan, so it becomes very steamy. The shower head is quite small with low pressure. While there is an outdoor area, it doesn’t offer much privacy as the motel is right on the road.
Parking is available on-site, which is a plus, but there are no laundry facilities.
There is a makeshift kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, kettle, fridge, and basic cutlery and crockery. However, it’s not suitable for cooking proper meals, and the lack of a sink makes washing up or even filling the kettle inconvenient.
On the positive side, the location is excellent—right next to a New World supermarket and very central.
Overall, the place is reasonably clean, tidy, and comfortable, but it would benefit from some maintenance.
MMandy PuaIt’s a vintage hotel, I’m surprised with the lift which is very old type of lift, the design very pretty and retro. Room is quite spacious for 4 adults. The heater is very powerful and strong. The hotel is located near to the town center and precinct street, just a few minutes of walk can reach.

GGuest UserWe stayed the little cabin and the view was amazing! The cabin itself is very cute but we have the day the bed is not very comfortable!
Note: there was no microwave or hob so we assume you have to do the cooking on the bbq? Anyway we used the main kitchen so it was fine.
JJimmy正I stayed at the Law Courts Hotel recently, and it was a bit of a mixed experience. The building is very old and hasn’t had much renovation. The bathroom still has those separate hot and cold taps, which are inconvenient, and the carpet looked quite worn and not very clean—it definitely feels like the place could use some updating.
That said, the location is fantastic—right in the heart of Dunedin, so it’s super convenient for getting around. It’s also very affordable, which is a big plus if you’re on a budget. Just keep in mind that being so central means it can be noisy; Saturday night, in particular, was hard to sleep through with all the street noise.
Overall, if you’re after a budget-friendly place in a great location and don’t mind the quirks of an older hotel, it’s worth considering. But if you’re looking for something more modern and comfortable, you might want to look elsewhere.
GGuest UserThis was the worst hotel we stayed at during our South Island trip, which might be due to its low price. We booked it for one night because it was right across from the Onsen hot springs we had planned to visit.
Firstly, I was really unhappy with the cleanliness. Maybe it's because the facilities are old, but the whole room felt dirty, especially the bathroom. The toilet even had issues. Secondly, it got very cold at night, and the heating unit was incredibly noisy. Plus, this was the only hotel on our entire trip that charged a $100 deposit, and it still hasn't been refunded by the end of our trip. When I called the front desk, they said it would take 7 business days, which is completely unreasonable!
IIgor_RumiantsevThe hotel is not new, but the condition is maintained good, it was clean and comfortable, the location is right next to the road, but the noise of the road is not heard. For stopping on the road between the sights - perfect. There is a beautiful restaurant and petrol nearby.
