Scenic Hotels in Ulaanbaatar

"The hotel is very close to Sukhbaatar Square, and the building has a historic feel to it, but the facilities inside are well-maintained. Just remember to bring your toothbrush! When I checked in, nobody mentioned anything about toiletries. After showering, I realized there was no toothbrush. I called the front desk, and they said they don't provide them. The convenience store downstairs didn't have any toothbrushes, either because they were sold out or just didn't carry them. I had to get dressed and walk about 300 meters in sub-zero temperatures to another convenience store just to buy one."

"Firstly, this hotel is Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's highest-rated luxury hotel, and most of its services are of a very high standard. For example, the two male managers who served me on the night of my check-in were professional and friendly, which prompted me to extend my stay for another day at my own expense. The hotel's dining service is also top-notch, both in terms of staff quality and food excellence – truly fantastic. However, on the last day of my extended stay, there were a few incidents that I can't quite get over. Firstly, a female manager, in front of several staff members, questioned whether I had paid for the first two nights. This was not only bad luck during the Chinese New Year, but such an inquiry in public, without regard for the guest's dignity, is truly debatable. Secondly, I trusted the hotel to help me call taxis, one for sightseeing in the morning and another for the airport the next day. The cost was significantly higher, but they explained it, and I accepted. The taxi for sightseeing went smoothly as I booked it on the spot. When I returned to the hotel at noon, no one informed me whether the taxi for the 6 AM airport transfer the next day had been confirmed. I couldn't help but go downstairs to ask if there was a taxi available to the State Department Store. After a staff member made a call, they said the taxi company had no cars available due to the holiday, and I could only walk or try my luck on the street. I was dumbfounded at that moment. I was supposed to leave at 5:50 AM tomorrow, and no one had informed me whether the taxi booking was successful, nor was there a contract or notification. What was I supposed to do? So, I quickly arranged a car through a travel agency for an airport transfer at 5:50 AM the next morning. When I checked out at 5:30 AM the next day, the receptionist told me a car had been booked. It was a very passive situation, and I also had to explain the issue with the room fees from the previous two days. Fortunately, the receptionist that day was very professional and understood my urgency to catch my flight, helping me resolve each issue professionally. Highly commendable!!"

"Conveniently located along Ulaanbaatar's central avenue, near the Bayanzurkh district. Nearby are E-Mart, Narantuul, and Sunday. Parking is available for the hotel's guests (pay per hour) on the building's - 2nd ground floor. The breakfast selection is very limited during the off-peak season."

"The hotel is situated in a very central area about 15 minutes' walk to the Gandantegchinlen Monastery or to Seoul Street. It is also adjacent to several malls where you can get access to cafes, convenience stores and restaurants all day long. It is a busy location in the city so it is a good starting point for exploring the city of Ulaanbaatar. The amenities provided were sufficient for a comfortable stay and the room is very compact but spacious enough for two. The bathroom was clean but housekeeping could be improved. The hot water system was not very stable - sometimes being very cold or too warm, but it did not affect our stay too much as it worked fine most of the time. The beds were comfortable and we had a good night's sleep after a long day exploring the city. Soundproofing was generally good and we did not have any issues with noise being placed in a room at the end of the corridor away from lifts. All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel for all travelers."

"Aurora Hotel is a relatively new hotel in Ulaanbaatar, located along Peace Avenue in the western part of UB City. It is about 15mins walk to an Emart and it is also pretty easy to book a taxi/cab using UBcab mobile app to get around as visitors. I highly recommend Aurora Hotel for short visits to Ulaanbaatar, despite it's non-central location. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast had a decent variety and quality. Khulan Restaurant on the 2nd floor also serves good Mongolian cuisine. The front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were served breakfast in our room during the Tsagaan Sar festival and it was a generous portion. Unfortunately during our visit, the gym and sauna were closed and we weren't able to use them."

"Pros: Cleanliness and Great Location The apartment itself was very clean and nice, which I appreciated. The location is also excellent—it’s just a 3-minute walk to Emart, so it was easy to buy fresh fruit (they have a great variety of delicious imported apples). Cons: Difficult Check-in and Communication However, finding the apartment is quite challenging. I don’t think I would have found it if I hadn't taken the taxi arranged by the host. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are arriving on a late-night flight and are not fluent in Mongolian. The door lock system was also very frustrating. It’s different from standard locks, making it extremely difficult to open the door and pull the key out. It is essential to meet the host in person and practice using the key several times. Host Communication I managed to open the door late at night, but when the key got stuck, I messaged the host for help. Even though the host read my message, they didn't reply, leaving me waiting for a long time without being able to sleep. (I suspect the host is not very fluent in English.) Overall Verdict The house is clean and well-located, but due to the communication and access issues, I wouldn't recommend it to foreign travelers unless you can communicate fluently in Mongolian."

"This hotel was not as grand as we remembered of Kempinski Hotels, and in fact felt a little dated. Especially the twin-bed room which had an odd layout. But it was comfortable and had all the amenities you could need. Staff were very helpful and professional. We ate one night in the hotel and food was good. The hotel is about 2km from the square. You can walk it (about 30 mins) but it is also to get a UBcab anywhere using the app."

"The hotel staff were very kind and I was very satisfied. During my stay, there was an unexpected accident with the room I had originally planned to stay in, but the front desk staff handled the situation and even upgraded me to a different room. I am very grateful that they responded with a smile to my poor language skills. The view of the city from the room was also great. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity to go to Ulaanbaatar again."

"This hotel was recommended by my Mongolian colleagues, and it's excellent value for money. It's cheaper than the hotel next door, but the quality is much better! Mongolia in December is absolutely freezing, I was shivering the whole time!!"
