JJovaI went to Hakuba to ski for half a month and wanted to stay in a hotel with a kitchen, so I chose this place. It’s not far to drive to Hakuba Ski Resort every day, but the car cannot be parked in front of the house. It has to be parked in the free parking lot outside, but it’s a bit difficult to drag the luggage back to the room in the snow!
There is no big problem with the room. There is enough hot water. The room has an air conditioner and a heater, so it doesn't feel cold. But for some reason the bedroom has no door. Maybe there is only one air conditioner in the whole house, installed between the living room and the bedroom?
It's a bit administratively confusing, the details are as follows:
I booked Base 2, but when I checked in, the staff gave me Base 1. I asked again if it was Base 1? The staff answered yes. I thought it was a deliberate arrangement by the hotel and did not investigate further. However, when I came back from skiing the next day, I found a notice posted on the gate. It said that the staff had given me the wrong room by mistake and asked me to go to the front desk, but they did not explain the solution. After arriving at the front desk, I could not communicate with the staff, and he did not say whether he wanted me to change rooms or pay more or anything. He just apologized for giving me the wrong room. I took the initiative to ask him if there would be other guests checking in. Otherwise, can I not move? Because I had already unloaded all the items in my four large luggages, it would take a lot of time to pack them up. Plus, I was exhausted after skiing all day and hadn’t eaten dinner yet. The staff was also hesitant and kept pressing his phone, but he didn’t use his phone to translate for me, so I was speechless… After at least twenty minutes of arguing, I took the initiative to suggest that I move back to Base 2, but he just kept saying OK OK. When I asked him to get the key to Base 2, he was stunned and asked me why? How can I move in if you don’t give me the key?
There was no cleaning or housekeeping during the stay, even the garbage from several days was not cleared, which was really unhygienic; towels and other supplies were not replenished either.
LLiminThe hotel's four-person room is larger than expected! The hotel's interior environment is better than expected, and there is also an open-air hot spring.
The receptionist at the front desk is an old man, his English is not very good, his attitude is average, and the service experience is not very good. But based on the cost-effectiveness, it is still recommended!
OO.K. MACI’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different.
It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area.
Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash.
One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only).
What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available.
They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room.
However, I must mention two important downsides:
1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner.
2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa.
Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself.
Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.
GGuest UserThe starting point in front of Tateyama Kurobe is very convenient, the room is large, the equipment is good, the staff is good, the service is good, especially Mr. Jin from China, he is polite, attentive and helpful, a first-class waiter
My special thanks to Mr Jin from ************** who offer first class services to guest.
食食玩訓豬The location is on the top of the mountain, not very convenient
But it's okay for self-driving tours
It takes 4.5 hours to drive from Narita Airport to the hotel
Check in was already past 12 am
The hotel staff checked us in after work
But it was snowing, and some mountain roads in the snow were not open and not fenced off
We walked in by mistake because the closed mountain roads were not cleared of snow
The car got stuck in the snow
Luckily it was not far from the hotel
The hotel staff quickly helped us tow the car
The hotel service was very good, very satisfied
There was a cooking stove and tableware in the room
Very convenient.
The snow outside the hotel is so beautiful that I don’t want to leave
GGuest UserIt was raining on the day we arrived, but it wasn't cold and we were able to sleep peacefully in our private room. It would be nice if the shower had a little more hot water, but it was okay. I think it's a good place to stay before climbing a mountain. The staff were kind and explained things to us carefully, which made me feel at ease.
Shinano Omachi was a town I had been following on Instagram and wanted to visit.
VVeniceCIt’s just a guesthouse but everything was clean. The only thing is there’s no key to lock the door. No towel and amenities all be given. I think the area is too safe hence the owner thinks no keys neededi
CChairat ModnakThe location is very near to a train station. Shower room is like Onsen room. You can Onsen and at the same time people can come and take a shower. It’s kinda weird.
