Outstanding
SSarah GraceWe had an amazing 1 night stay at Shizentenyu... i'm still dreaming about the view from our room and the restaurant... amazing!!! We didn't realize that our room included a full 7-course set dinner menu, which was one of the highlights from our trip! The service was impecable, food delicious, and a huge thank-you to Alfie who guided us through our set menu in English. We would have been very confused without him. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, the Onsen lovely, we appreciated the lounge with free coffee, tea, beer, and popsicles. We also braved the steep walk down to the private beach and went for a refreshing swim! We wish we could have stayed longer!

MM270696****This place is located at Izu-Ōkawa Station, which is a bit off the beaten path for a transport hub in the East Izu area. The hotel offers a shuttle service, which you can book in advance via email or phone. The front desk has a ********* lady who speaks Chinese and is very helpful, answering any questions you might have. The food is quite good, and there are two large outdoor private onsens where you can see stars on a clear night. However, if you want to see a lot of stars, you should head to Ōshima or a nearby island. The room size is standard; in Japanese-style rooms, staff will lay out futons as there are no beds. The tatami mats are very new and have that unique new tatami smell. The private onsen in the room is also nice for a soak. If you're interested, there's also a wild hot spring by the sea – just Google it. You'll find a Lawson convenience store a short walk along the coastline. Overall, apart from the slightly remote location, there aren't any major drawbacks.

AAnonymous UserI chose this hotel instead of the neighboring Ginshuisou because it was slightly more expensive for the same dates, and it was much better than expected. The hotel service was excellent overall, from the shuttle bus to the hotel itself – standard Japanese service. The only slight drawback was that I didn't encounter any staff members fluent in English; we mostly communicated using translators. I emailed the hotel reception to reserve a table at Toranoana yakiniku (grilled meat) next door, and received a reply about a day later that the reservation was confirmed. Very efficient, thank you so much! For a late-night snack, I got some fried rice from a nearby Itoshima-ya restaurant. The rice was perfectly cooked, and my friends and I raved about it! The fried tofu was also delicious! The open-air ocean-view onsen, Sora, had a stunning view. After soaking, enjoying the complimentary tea and snacks and buying milk from the vending machine was incredibly relaxing – the milk was absolutely delicious! There's a convenience store just 100 meters from the hotel, which was very convenient. The room view was also fantastic; I slept soundly to the sound of the waves. The facilities showed signs of aging and use (minor damage), but overall, it didn't feel drab and was acceptable. Furthermore, neither my friend's nor my room smelled musty, indicating that they were well-maintained.

KkahoooooThey called me twice to confirm my reservation, so I could tell they were very attentive even before I arrived. They were always friendly and helpful when I arrived, and I was able to check in comfortably! I was looking forward to dinner, and it was gorgeous, delicious, and even better than I expected! The breakfast included sashimi, which was a shame I couldn't finish. The bath had a great view, so I was able to relax in it. I was happy that there were L'Occitane amenities in the room!

MM30141****The onsen room isn't huge but it's very clean and the water is excellent. Soaking twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, really does feel healthy. The food is great. The hotel is located by the sea, but there's no beach. You can see trains heading to Shimoda passing by. In the lobby, there's a fish pond with large koi, and for 100 yen, you can buy food from a dispenser to feed them. The hotel offers a convenient shuttle service to the train station; when you get off the train, you'll see a hotel representative with a sign right outside the platform. Overall, it's a very good choice.

MMiasmileKanto-Izu Trip in September 2025~ For this Izu trip, we stayed at Atagawakan. After exiting JR Izu-Atagawa Station, I was about to walk to the hotel with my luggage when I saw Atagawakan's shuttle bus pulling up right outside, so I hopped right on. Over the next few days, I noticed the shuttle runs very frequently – I wonder if it's timed with the JR train schedule? It's not actually a long walk, but there are some inclines and declines, which can be a bit tiring. The front desk at Atagawakan always has staff who speak Chinese, making communication very convenient. The overall environment is also excellent, grand and tidy. Although it has the classic layout of an older onsen hotel, it's quite comfortable and cozy. The room was spacious enough, with a balcony directly overlooking the ocean and offering sunrise views. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night, I slept wonderfully. I've had a few experiences with Japanese-style rooms in onsen hotels before, and they were usually quite average, and I didn't sleep well. So I was surprised that here, even with the sound of the waves and direct sunlight from the sunrise early in the morning, neither affected my sleep. The hot springs are on the 4th floor. There aren't many baths, but there are both indoor and outdoor options. I went late, so I practically had the whole place to myself every day, which was very comfortable. There are a few restaurants near the hotel, not a huge selection, but the ones I tried had excellent ingredients, and I was very satisfied with all of them. They are definitely worth trying.

GGuest UserThis is a bit worn out and simple hotel. The best things were the extremely friendly and helpful staff, as well as the super delicious dinner & breakfast that was included in the price. I ate maybe the most delicious croissant ever here. The variety and the quality of food was great. Things to improve are  the facilities, especially the onsen. It’s very small but more importantly, it wasn’t well maintained and there was no emergency button. When my mom felt like fainting, it wasn’t possible to call for help.  Also the air conditioner in the room was very loud, making it difficult to sleep. All in all, good stay.

GGuest UserThe hotel is right by the sea. The view from the window of the room is very beautiful. Dinner and breakfast are complete and delicious. There is an outdoor onsen upstairs of the hotel. And there is a private onsen as well. The staff are willing to serve even though they can't speak English. But try to communicate with the guests Overall worth the price paid.

GGuest UserWe were really taken aback by how nice the entire experience was at the cost, private bath, onsen, and the facilities were a delight. The photos did not do the rooms justice. Beautiful and practical. Nice staff as well. Dinner buffet was delicious as well, we went back for seconds.  The town was gorgeous, great workout, and the locals were very friendly although it’s hard to get to neighbouring areas without a car and the nearby shops are often only open for one or a few days of the week which means you should be careful in your planning if you want to eat out of the hotel in a place that is not a konbini.

LLThe staff are very polite and always willing to help. The room is big and comfortable. The sound-proof work is also effective, so I hardly hear any noise from rooms nearby. However, note that the hotel is in the middle of a mountain. If you don’t drive, you have to rely on the car service which the hotel offers (free of charge but not always available). It is almost impossible to go by foot. However, I must say the hotel staff has always tried their best to cater your needs, which I appreicate very much.
