One whiff and I nearly cancelled the stay on the spot. Room Rescue Cue Mr Hong Dejian—calm, English-speaking, and clutching the keys to redemption. He patiently showed me alternative rooms until we found one that didn’t smell like a poker night. Had I left, I would’ve missed what came next. Comfort Food = Home Dinner delivered a miracle: stewed chicken with potatoes and mushrooms. One bite and—boom—mummy’s cooking. After days on the road, I finally found food in China that tasted like home. Tail wagging resumed. Care Beyond the Call Mr Hong returned with a portable heater, pointed out city landmarks, and even taught me how to take a non-reflective photo (yes, this dog learns fast). His easy friendliness softened the edges of dirty window panes and mostly Mandarin-only staff. I even showed him the ink-black towel after wiping the window—evidence, not barking. Menu Meltdown & A Win At the restaurant, I was handed a Chinese-only menu after saying I don’t speak Mandarin. I hit the roof. To their credit, reception listened: I received a call from the lady boss, and the issue was acknowledged. Then a hero appeared—the restaurant lady, who patiently translated dish names so I could choose lunch and dinner without guesswork. Gold bone earned. City Interlude: Jilin Catholic Church Between meals and meetings, I visited Jilin Catholic Church (吉林耶稣圣心堂)—a quiet pause from hotel hiccups. The church offered a moment of stillness, a reminder that even on a bumpy stay, the city holds pockets of grace. Logistics That Worked Back at the desk, the reception lady manager efficiently arranged my transport to Wusong Island—quick, competent, and reassuring. Breakfast & The Fine Print Breakfast surprised me in the best way: healthy, balanced, a thoughtful mix of local and Western dishes. One final bone to chew—early booking didn’t pay off as prices dropped later. A truly Winning Hotel would honour the lower rate at check-in. Verdict Despite communication bumps, this is a solid winter hideout: good Songhua River views, comforting food, and fast service when it counts. "Yunlu Hotel - Resort Shuttle Service: Very convenient, the vehicles are clean and available on demand. The drivers are helpful with luggage, which is a thoughtful touch. The lobby is cozy, the breakfast buffet offers high-quality food, and the late-night snack service is especially heartwarming. The room is comfortably furnished and very warm. The water pressure is strong, and the water is hot. Even though there's a shower curtain, water barely splashes out, keeping everything clean and nice."

"I absolutely loved this guesthouse! It was incredibly clean, conveniently located, and had a super cozy and comfortable atmosphere. They even offered ski resort shuttle service, and any issues were resolved promptly. The photos turned out beautifully! The host and manager were truly amazing!!! They responded to every question very quickly. It's the perfect place to stay for skiing; there are plenty of food options nearby, and the steamed bun shop right outside the door makes it super convenient to go skiing in the morning! I'm extremely satisfied; it definitely deserves five stars!"

"I booked a four-bed family room for a family of three and an elderly person. It was very clean and the supplies were very good. There were also disposable toilet mats and bath towels. It was very considerate. The service attitude was super good and the charger was left. I took the initiative to contact the room and help with mailing. Thank you very much. "A great place to stay! We had a minor hiccup during our visit, but everything else was fantastic. The service was incredibly warm and accommodating, almost always fulfilling our requests. The shuttle drivers to the ski resort were particularly enthusiastic and responded super quickly. The surrounding area is very convenient with lots of delicious food options. It would be even better if the breakfast selection had more variety, but the bun shop downstairs is definitely the top must-try at Songhua Lake – absolutely delicious! We'll definitely consider staying here again next time."

"The design of the room is really good, the overall style is very good, the room has a wide view, there are sockets next to the sofa next to the mirror, you can charge when you make up, or you can lie on the sofa and play with your mobile phone charging, which is very convenient. "The owner was very friendly and welcoming. We were among the last to arrive that day, so parking was a bit of a struggle, though we later discovered that parking on the roadside outside the guesthouse was also an option. You need to change shoes upon entering, and the owner provides slippers. The room had an old-fashioned kang (heated brick bed), which reminded me of the kang I slept on for several years as a child. It brought back fond memories; there's a term in my hometown called ”wu kang,” which means making a bed, instantly transporting me back to my childhood. My partner, however, had absolutely no idea how to make a bed. The next morning, we were heading to see the rime ice at 6:30 am when the owner said he could take us to a place that should have some (the forecast that day seemed to only be 1 star). He drove us to a spot that tourists would never find on their own (there were no roads or markers on the map), where we saw incredibly beautiful rime ice. Although it wasn't 5 stars, I still thought it was absolutely gorgeous! By the way, the owner can drive directly to the island. If you're going from Zengtong to Hantun, you need to cross a bridge, which apparently costs money. We didn't go that day, but we still saw incredibly beautiful rime ice right there. If I have the chance to come again next year, as long as it snows and then the weather clears up, there will basically be a great rime ice display (that's what I think the shopkeeper meant, haha)."

"The coziest Japanese-style apartment is the perfect place for a comfortable stay. Inside there is everything you need, thought out to the smallest detail. You can accommodate four: there is a separate bedroom and a kitchen-living room. But the coolest thing is the bath right in the room with a gorgeous view of the mountain! The view from the windows is simply mesmerizing. And another big plus is that on the first floor of the house there is a 24-hour store with an excellent selection of products and necessary little things. An excellent option for those who want to enjoy comfort and convenience!"

"Came here for a week-long ski trip during winter and stayed at the Shiguang Shanse Villa. It truly felt like home. The facilities were complete, and the decor was very cozy. The landlady, in particular, was incredibly thoughtful, and the service was very attentive. The housekeeping and management staff were also warm and considerate, truly reflecting the genuine hospitality of people from Northeast China. The room views were unbeatable, and getting to the slopes was super convenient – just a downhill walk from the entrance. I'm never staying at Seibu Prince again; this is my new go-to!"
