Hotels with WiFi in Shimoda

"Nestled on a hillside overlooking the bay, the hotel is absolutely stunning on a clear day. The garden has direct access to the beach, though climbing the stairs back up can be quite a workout. The room facilities were comprehensive and newer than I had anticipated. The hotel was quite busy with guests from various countries, indicating it's indeed very foreigner-friendly. However, this also led to some issues. For instance, the hotel's onsen (hot spring) isn't very large, so it felt quite crowded with so many international visitors. What was even more dismaying was the blatant disregard for onsen etiquette. I personally witnessed several instances, including but not limited to: two Chinese female tourists in swimsuits in the outdoor bath, one of whom was sitting at the edge, soaking her legs while drinking a beverage, with a full face of makeup – I half expected her to pull out her phone for a 'perfect shot.' Additionally, two women, possibly from Eastern Europe or Russia, covered in tattoos, wore their slippers directly into the changing area and then just left them thrown under the lockers. Such sights were off-putting, so we decided not to use the onsen on our second night. The hotel actually provides guests with a leaflet on Japanese onsen etiquette upon check-in, but clearly, some people just don't bother to read it. I suggest the hotel increases staff patrols in the onsen area to promptly identify and address these uncivilized behaviors. On another note, when we first entered our room, it felt stuffy, so we opened the window, which unfortunately let in some mosquitoes. After contacting the front desk, they promptly sent up an electric mosquito repellent, which was a thoughtful gesture. We stayed for two nights, both on a half-board basis (dinner and breakfast). The dinner was a Western-style set menu, with at least 7 courses. Both the presentation and content were Michelin-level and absolutely delicious. Finally, the hotel's shuttle bus service is quite frequent. In the mornings, there are four buses that stop at Shimoda Park, which is perfect for seeing the hydrangeas."

"202***.23 Arrived at Haneda around 5 AM, then at Atami at 8:26 AM, luckily catching the Kinme-no-Tsurugi (golden-eye sea bream) ocean-viewing train. After having sushi at Fumito for lunch, arrived at Izu-Shimoda Station around 2 PM. The hotel was about a 12-minute walk from the station. Arrived at the hotel at 2:30 PM. After checking in, since it wasn't 3 PM yet, they gave me a card to exchange for a room key later. This card was useful for carrying when leaving the room key at the front desk after going out for meals. After arriving at 3 PM, I exchanged the card for the room key. During check-in, I mentioned the second floor, but was politely refused when I asked if a higher floor was possible, as they said they couldn't specify a floor and the upper floors were full that day. Upon entering the room, I found that the view was only a small glimpse of the distant sea, mostly just roadside greenery. The full-length sea view from the windows in the pictures of the superior family room is definitely only available from higher floors. However, after contacting Ctrip customer service about the floor view issue, I stopped worrying about it. Besides, the second floor connects to the public bath, which is convenient. The Japanese-style tatami rooms were quite spacious and very clean. What I liked most was that the showerhead was located outside the bathroom, so I didn't have to shower in the bathtub – that was great! The toilet was in a separate small room. My favorite thing about the Itoen chain hotel was the free karaoke. While the private rooms didn't have the same view as those in Atagawa, each session was ten minutes longer, and it was once an hour. I booked an hour for 4 PM when I checked in, and then booked another hour for 10 AM the next day at the front desk. I could sing all by myself and had a blast. The onsen (hot spring) was also quite large. The outdoor one was semi-open-air with a roof and a thatched wall covering the opposite side. It had been raining these past few days, so the semi-open-air feel wasn't a problem. Aside from the minor issue with the view, overall, it was a very good hotel with great value for money."

"It was the best place where my wife and I had ever rested. And the hotel and the whole city of Shimoda is a paradise. We liked absolutely everything. And the hotel employee - Kaori, is an exceptional nature person. She gives her work 200% and is the heart of this hotel. Thanks to her scrupulousness, sensitivity and care, there was a feeling that my mother was taking care of us in the hotel. We will definitely come back again! We advise everyone to visit this city and this beautiful hotel at least once. "Quite affordable considering its proximity to the beach. The place gives a homey vibe. It’s clean and quiet. It’s run by Aoki-san and Keiko-san, a really nice couple. Those traveling by public transport shouldn’t be worried about access as long as you check the bus schedule of the day. "The hotel is located in a secluded area and it takes more than four hours to drive from Narita Airport, but once you enter, you will feel that it is well worth it. The environment is elegant and comfortable, the room is clean and spacious, and the private bath is great! Dinner and breakfast the next day were both served in the hotel restaurant. The ingredients were fresh and abundant, especially the famous local golden eye sea bream dishes. "

"This is my third time visiting Shimoda in Izu, and I've chosen this hotel all three times. While it's small, it's incredibly convenient, being just a one-minute walk from both the train and bus stations. What's even better is that their website states no breakfast is provided, but they actually offer a complimentary breakfast, which is a really nice touch. "There are cockroaches, all kinds of cockroaches. The big cockroaches are spinning in the room, and the middle cockroaches are lying on the ground in the game room. The small cockroaches are drilling in the tatami mats. In fact, the small cockroach is not terrible, but it is annoying that it is possible to climb into the luggage and then follow home. This is more annoying. Others are fine. Hotel service staff is very good. The hotel is right by the sea, convenient, no need to say. If you are particularly afraid of cockroaches, you should find a new hotel. The old hotel may be difficult to have no cockroaches, after all, it is all wood. There is a Keikyu next to it, the price is double, but it is definitely a ”clean hotel”."

"This was my first time visiting Minamiizu, and a friend recommended this hotel – it truly lived up to expectations! The accommodations were great, and the food was delicious. My only complaint is regarding the shuttle service. The day before check-in, I specifically asked about pickup details through Trip.com customer service. The hotel only sent a text message with the pickup time, but not the location. I assumed, like most hotels, that it would pick up in front of the JR station. To my surprise, I waited from 2 PM to 3 PM and saw no sign of the hotel bus. I started to feel something was wrong and checked Trip.com, where I saw a guest comment mentioning that after 3:10 PM, there would be no more pickups. Panicked, I immediately called the hotel. That's when I learned the hotel bus has a specific waiting point, around the corner, to the right of the JR station (and then to the right again). If this isn't communicated beforehand, and there are no signs at the station, it's impossible for guests to know where to wait. Therefore, I strongly suggest the hotel standardize its pickup service by clearly stating both the pickup time and location in advance. Both pieces of information are essential!"
