Resort Collina D’Oro & SPA

📍 Via Roncone 22, Collina d'Oro
★★★★★ 8.9 (59 reviews)

"A wonderful place to rest. We stayed for 5 days and we are very satisfied. A wonderful rich breakfast with the best quality of food from Switzerland, perfect hygiene, perfect service. I am most satisfied with the service, there was one cake that I liked very much the first day and then it was gone for 4 days, there were many other beautiful cakes but the cake I wanted was not there and I went to ask the chef what it was called, he told me only the name and the next day when I came and when I saw the cake for breakfast I was overjoyed. Our daughter is two months old, when we arrived in the room there was bed for our baby. Beautiful place to relax, spa center and pool perfect. A luxurious hotel with classy guests and a beautiful setting that gives peace and tranquility. "

"Lovely hotel. Lovely rooms, clean and comfortable. Good bathroom. Good Aircon and nice balcony with a garden view. Lovely buffet breakfast with hot and cold food. Lovely evening meals. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating area where you can enjoy a drink/coffee. Lovely staff, very friendly. The barman was so nice and would have a laugh with you whilst making your drinks and offered table service. He would bring drinks to your table along with some bar snacks, which were complementary"

ibis budget Lugano Paradiso

ibis budget Lugano Paradiso

📍 Via Geretta 10, Paradiso, Lugano
★★ 9.2 (50 reviews)

"The room was very clean, but overall had the basic necessities needed to get by. There were no charging ports by the bed, which meant we had to charge our phones by the sink (an active water outlet) which was a health and safety hazard. The bed was rock solid, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. The receptionists were really polite and made sure we had everything we needed. We saw a show at the LAC Lugano that evening which was really lovely and the hotel was conveniently located for this, but was quite tricky to find when coming from Central Lugano. The bathroom was separated into a shower and a toilet, where the sink was in the bedroom which was odd. The toilet didn’t have a lock on the door which lacked privacy and was more like a wardrobe style door, where you could hear everything going on behind it. The shower was a see-through glass door which again, lacked privacy. There were 3 coathangers to hang clothes and not a lot of storage space. The room overlooked the pool which was really lovely, and had a blackout blind to block out light in the morning. We could control the lights from a button beside our bed, which was helpful when going to sleep. However, the shower light wouldn’t turn off at night which was irritating, as when we tried to take the key card that activated the lights out, it cancelled out the power and we couldn’t charge our phones. Overall, this stay was alright for one night but we couldn’t stay here for a week. The negatives outweighed the positives massively."

Hotel Campione

Hotel Campione

📍 Via Campione 62, Bissone
★★★ 8.7 (71 reviews)

"I stayed in this quiet hotel again. It was as clean and comfortable as before. When I opened the window, I could see the beautiful lake and snow-capped mountains in the distance. I felt so good! Smiling service at the front desk, warm room, smart toilet... everything makes you feel good! There is a bus stop to Lugano outside the hotel. There is a small supermarket about seven or eight minutes’ walk away. A few minutes further on you will reach the lake, where there are cafes and Chinese restaurants."

Lugano Savosa Youth Hostel

Lugano Savosa Youth Hostel

📍 Via Cantonale 13, Savosa
★★ 8.7 (6 reviews)

"During my recent visit with my school class, I found the establishment to be quite satisfactory. It is conveniently situated near a bus stop that provides easy access to the city of Lugano. However, it is worth noting that some staff members exhibited a lack of courtesy and knowledge. Despite this minor setback, the overall experience was enjoyable. The pool is impressive, although its temperature may be slightly chilly. Nevertheless, this minor inconvenience does not detract from the overall positive impression."

Resort Collina D’Oro & SPA ★★★★★
"When you see the beauty of this resort, you expect a unique up-to-standard experience. And then you get there, most of the staff will be very nice. And then everything else falls short. We drove an hour and a half from Milan to get to this place. The photos and display online showed that it was worth it. The pool area is fantastic. The view from up top is superb. And then you get to your room, and you’re thinking “this doesn’t feel like a $350 per night kind of room 🤔”. We call downstairs asking to get something to eat. And there it goes, the horror story of Italian Villa type hotels: kitchen hours. You don’t make kitchen hours you don’t eat. Period. But you’re thinking “when a hotel gives itself a 5 star rating, isn’t it required to serve food 24/7?”. Anyway, “kitchen is closed” was the imposed reality. So we had to wait. Dinner time came, we were tired so we asked to order to the room. Now I’m all for a luxury resort charging me high for fine dining. But I got 4 raviolis, and a small portion of what was supposed to be risotto, but that looked like army rice swimming in a lot of liquid, with lumps of something on top. The raviolis tasted bitter, and the risotto was simply repulsive. And they priced those at around $80. Please look at the photos and see what I mean. At breakfast, where the staff were more than courteous, we then discovered that the kitchen was indeed sub-standard at this place. The food items were okay. Budget hotel level okay. But that is not good enough for a resort at this price, is it? I mean for me to have a mini croissant and not have another, tells you something about how not that great they are. Same goes for the cakes etc. Sub-standard. We ended up returning the food and ordering a cheese sandwich and fries. Which we then had for lunch the next day, because, we arrived to the restaurant 6 minutes after “kitchen closed”. Even the fries were not great. Can you imagine a kitchen screwing up on fries? On the third day we had an emergency back home so we had to leave. We asked them to cancel the third night, and we were going to leave at 9am which is way before checkout time. They refused. We then asked to pay half a room rate as penalty, but the full rate was too much. Especially that we had stayed two nights already. They refused. And so we got charged $350 for a night we didn’t use. I believe that this hotel was beautifully designed, then handed over to management (or the owners themselves) that is not fit for such premises. And cannot hold the required standard. What a disappointment."

Hotel Il Chiostro by Lvg Hotel Collection ★★★
"It is a basic hotel which is frequented by tour busses and retirees. Food: The cloister gardens are very nice and the breakfast buffet is the standard sliced meats, croissants of different varieties and cereal. Dinner was cheap at 20€ for a Primo, Secondo and a Dolce. The quality was better than expected. The pasta was al dente and the sauces were good. The fish was slightly over cooked but good and the potatoes and beans were under the heat lamp a bit to long but edible. Hey, it was only 20€! The wait staff were very nice. Construction: As of June 2023 there is an apartment complex being constructed next door and has at least another year to go since the foundations were being set currently. Therefore the jackhammers started at 0700. Parking: check-in at reception first to get the key to open the gate to the offsite parking lot. There are some short term parking spaces in front of reception area. The coffee is ok but the Americano option on the coffee machine was undrinkable. Overall a good value for a budget conscious Traveller."

Swiss Historic & Garten Hotel Villa Carona ★★★
"We chose this hotel because it was part of two hotel groups we use frequently. The hotel is charming, the rooms are well appointed and the garden & grounds are beautiful. Violetta our breakfast hostess was super attentive and kind. She made the visit special. Although reviewers say the location is good be aware that the hotel is not easy to reach because of a narrow switchback road. The road is in good condition but it could be challenging for visitors not used to mountain driving. It is served well by a local bus and would be ideal for backpackers traveling light. Otherwise being closer to Lugano would be smarter for guests visiting the surrounding area. We would return in a minute but the location will keep us from coming back with a car."
