Exploring Bangkok does not have to mean sitting in traffic for hours. The Bangkok MRT is one of the easiest ways to get around the city, taking you from busy shopping districts to local neighbourhoods and popular attractions.

The Bangkok MRT operates every day, but operating hours vary slightly between the Blue Line and Purple Line.

The MRT Blue Line generally operates from 6:00 am to midnight every day. During peak periods, trains usually arrive more frequently.

The Bangkok MRT is one of the main rail systems in Bangkok. For travellers, the two MRT lines you will use most are the MRT Blue Line and MRT Purple Line.

The Blue Line is the most useful line for tourists as it connects many popular areas, shopping districts and attractions. The Purple Line mainly serves areas north of Bangkok and connects with the Blue Line at Tao Poon Station.

How to Pay for Bangkok MRT

Bangkok MRT

There are several ways to pay for the Bangkok MRT. The most convenient option for many travellers is using a contactless bank card, although you can also purchase a single journey token.

Bangkok MRT Single Journey Token

A single journey token is a simple option if you only plan to take the Bangkok MRT occasionally.

Where to Buy?

You can buy a token from ticket vending machines at MRT stations.

Select your destination on the machine and pay the required fare. If you need help, you can also visit the station service counter.

How to Use?

After buying your token, tap it at the fare gate to enter the station.

Keep the token with you during your journey. When you arrive at your destination, insert the token into the gate to exit.

Bangkok MRT EMV Contactless Card

One of the easiest ways to use the Bangkok MRT is with an eligible EMV contactless bank card.

From June 2026, the upgraded payment system supports contactless payments on the MRT Blue Line and Purple Line. Your fare will be charged automatically based on your journey.

Eligible cards include supported Visa, Mastercard and selected UnionPay contactless cards. International Visa and Mastercard contactless cards can be used, making this a convenient option for many Singapore travellers.

How to Use?

  1. Look for the contactless payment symbol at the MRT gate.
  2. Tap the same contactless card when entering the station.
  3. Tap the same card again when exiting.
💥Important: Only tap one card at a time and use the same card for both entry and exit.

Mangmoom EMV Card

The Mangmoom EMV Card is another payment option for Bangkok MRT passengers.

The system was introduced as part of Thailand's move towards a more integrated contactless payment system. Older MRT and MRT Plus stored value cards are no longer accepted at MRT gates following the payment system upgrade.

How to Take the Bangkok MRT

Check the Bangkok MRT map and identify your starting station and destination.

2. Enter the MRT Station

Look for the MRT sign and enter the station.

This is a repeated stayed and I stayed for 8 nights. The room price is good value that why I chose here. Staffs are polite n helpful. Room is spacious and clean. Car parking service is available if you drive. The hotel provide shuttle service from 8am to 8pm at every 30 minutes to bts station or you can walk 7 minutes to station if your miss it. Nearby has a famous mango sticky rice shop you should try it at sukhumvit soi 53. There is another one called Ning’s Mango stand @Food Street Soi 38 which is opp the famous mango shop. Both equally good so try both. Highly recommended for this hotel and I will definitely come back.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. First, regarding check-in and service, we arrived at the hotel at 3:00 AM, having booked a family suite. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly, patiently introducing us to the facilities and personally showing us the room. Throughout our entire stay, the hotel staff were very enthusiastic and always willing to help. Secondly, concerning the location and surrounding area, the hotel is very conveniently situated with many local street food options and massage shops nearby. It's especially worth mentioning that there's a traditional Thai royal restaurant right next door, which serves excellent food. Finally, as for the hotel facilities, everything you need is available. The only minor downside is that the water quality in the swimming pool could use a little improvement.

The only issue with this hotel was the slow Wi-Fi. If you're staying here, you might need an unlimited data plan. The entire hotel staff was incredibly proactive and attentive, and they could communicate in basic Chinese. We checked in around 3 or 4 AM, and all our check-in documents were already prepared for us, making the process very efficient. The lobby can help receive food deliveries and packages, and collection is also very meticulous and convenient. The room space was ample. Although the facilities were visibly a bit dated, they were very well-maintained. There were quite a few mirrors, and when my friend expressed some concern about the room's decor, they promptly helped us adjust it. The bathroom had a slight odor, but it was within an acceptable range. There's a 7-Eleven right downstairs from the hotel, and the location is very close to both the BTS and the Airport Rail Link, making it very convenient to get to the city center.

Talk about a 'Lost in Thailand' real-life scenario! My flight was delayed, so I didn't get to the hotel until after 1 AM. All I wanted was to shower and sleep, but first, my key card wouldn't work, and I couldn't get the elevator to go up. A staff member used her master key to take me to the room. Once we got there, it was pitch black. She hadn't brought a key card to activate the power. I tried to explain in English, but she must not have understood. So, she went back down to get a key card, leaving my child and me in a dark, hot, and exhausting room. Finally, with the power on, I thought I could shower and sleep. But then I noticed the 'disposable' slippers looked like they'd been used for a month – they were pilled and even had hair inside. On top of that, the lighting was strange; the room's decor was very dark. The bed was incredibly hard, and the curtains didn't close properly, letting light in. The bed faced east, which felt odd. The air conditioning was deafeningly loud, like the outdoor unit was inside the room. Even on the lowest setting, it was booming. I didn't sleep a wink. It was too noisy with the AC on and too hot with it off, so I ended up turning it on and off six or seven times throughout the night. The next day, I switched rooms, and it was much better, though the AC was still quite loud. Luckily, it wasn't too hot with it off, so I just left it off. The hotel's location is good; it's a ten-minute walk to Central Department Store, which is great for shopping and dining. There's also a big mall five minutes away, and several 7-Elevens right across from the hotel. The pool is small and didn't look very clean, probably because it's older. The service, however, was quite good. The staff always had smiles, and the bellhops proactively helped with luggage, with a dedicated staff member opening doors. Overall, the first night was a bad experience, but after changing rooms, I was quite satisfied. The hotel even did turn-down service and changed towels on the second night, which was a nice touch. I really hope they provide new disposable slippers for every guest; otherwise, I'm worried about hygiene, especially with foot infections. I remember seeing news about the Marriott group allegedly reusing disposable slippers.

I'm not sure why Koreans don't prefer water rooms, but we specifically requested one from the start! That bathtub with the panoramic city view was my dream, and true to its reputation, both the hotel's common areas and rooms showcased a high level of aesthetic detail, making our stay incredibly diverse and enjoyable. The breakfast also offered a good variety, and I appreciated having a separate tea station. All the staff members were kind and warm, making us feel comfortable throughout our stay. It's strange, there are a few minor downsides, but they're all easily overlooked, haha. For instance, the showerhead hose was a bit small, resulting in less water pressure; the breakfast fruits weren't very sweet; having to take two separate elevators was a slight hassle; and I wondered if a TV in front of the panoramic window was really necessary. These are just minor points.

It's about a ten-minute walk to the subway station, but taxis are readily available. The surrounding commercial area is a bit lacking, though there's a rather large 7-Eleven diagonally across the street. The daily room cleaning was excellent and deserves praise! However, for some reason, even with the AC on (which I couldn't seem to turn off), the duvet felt a bit damp. Turning the temperature down lower seemed to solve that issue. Overall, for the price point, it's a worthwhile stay and I'd consider returning.

If the room rate is the same, there are definitely other choices. The housekeeping staff and lobby concierge teams are nice. However, the front desk staff seems to need more training. When I arrived at midnight to check in, the staff claimed my booking was canceled by Trip.com at 11:00 AM that same day morning, and she was very confident about it. Hearing this shocked me because I have used Trip.com for almost 16–18 years and have never had this kind of issue happen to me, though I understand that sometimes these things can occur in real time. However, the staff didn't do anything to help—she just informed me of this message. While I was contacting the Trip.com CS team and waiting for someone to help me, she suddenly told me she found my booking. Is this a late-night joke? When I checked out, there were two staff members on duty, one senior and one junior. The junior staff member told me to wait a moment for the room check, so I went to the lobby coffee shop to get a drink and sit for a while. However, no one informed me about the check-out status for at least 8 to 10 minutes. I don't mind waiting for the result, but the staff should at least let me know how long it will take. When I returned to the front desk to ask about the status, the junior staff member asked for my room number again, retrieved a sheet of paper, and asked me, ”Is this you?” This is totally unacceptable, because the paper had a passport photocopy belonging to a Thai female customer. Exposing personal data to irrelevant people like this shows that these staff members lack data privacy training.

We were given a room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool and gym area. Room was spacious. We booked for 4 nights but didn't sleep well throughout. 1st night the room was freezing cold even though we set the temp to max 30C. 2nd day went to request change of room but the counter staff said to get a technician to service. Then it became a little bit cold when set to 30C. 3rd day the room was like sauna and we called the technician up again. Then it was fine. On the 4th day, the room was freezing cold again. Technician came and service and said everything is back to normal now and shouldn't have any problems but the room still freezing cold after they left. Tired of calling them again and so we struggled to live through the night. We were so disappointed with the stay this time.

The beds in the room felt smaller than 1.3 meters, more like 1.1 meters. But that's just my feeling as a woman, which might not be accurate. When we booked, we requested two standard rooms with 1.3-meter beds, but upon arrival, we only got one king room and one standard room. This meant I had to sleep in the king room with my two children, which was very uncomfortable. Luckily, they switched us to a standard room the next day. The breakfast was decent, and the location is great. There's Chulalongkorn Night Market nearby for browsing, and plenty of massage parlors. If you're interested, you can also visit the labs inside Chulalongkorn University. The front desk staff and bellhops were all incredibly friendly and helpful.

First off, there's a major flaw with the hotel: it seems most rooms, except for corner ones, are connecting rooms. This results in terrible soundproofing. You can clearly hear if your neighbors speak even a little loudly. On the first night, I was woken up at 2 AM by the sounds of the couple next door. When I went to the front desk the next day to switch rooms, I was met with eye rolls and impatience. Then, the room change itself was a hassle with all sorts of procedures and time restrictions; I couldn't move to a new room until 2 PM, even though rooms were clearly available. My second issue is with the bathroom. The shower has no door or curtain to prevent water from splashing out. This means every time you take a shower, the bathroom floor will be completely flooded. Your towel will also be soaking wet. The sink design is also a disaster; water splashes out every time you turn on the faucet. My third and biggest issue is the absolutely, incredibly, exceptionally poor service. I specifically want to call out the young, slightly overweight female front desk staff with a ponytail. She gave me constant eye rolls and showed extreme impatience. I don't know what her problem was. When I was changing rooms, she was sighing and rolling her eyes, and she was giving me side-eye even when I was just checking in.

I booked this place for two nights. I saw other reviews saying the accommodation was clean, but for me, the bathroom was quite dirty, as if the housekeeper hadn't cleaned it at all. There were stain marks on the walls and the sink was also stained. However, the duvet and bedsheets were quite clean. On the second night, the housekeeper forgot to provide towels, so I called reception to request some. But after a long wait, no one brought them up, so my partner had to go down to get them himself. The towels for the second night also had a musty smell. The swimming pool and gym were pretty decent for the price. I booked a room with breakfast, and the breakfast was fine. The staff at the restaurant provided excellent service; they were very cheerful, especially a female staff member who took great care of us, and the male staff member who drove us to the main road was also very helpful. Overall, it was quite okay, but I have to deduct points for the cleanliness of the bathroom, as it seemed the housekeeper hadn't cleaned the walls at all.
