Travel to Harbin

Harbin is a city where winter turns into magic. Sitting on the banks of the Songhua River, it blends Russian charm with Chinese soul. You’ll find Baroque buildings, golden onion domes, and streets filled with grilled skewers and ice cream. Harbin is cold, but it’s the kind of cold that stays warm in your memory.

First time experiencing the business class life on the rails to Harbin. I get the hype now. ☕️✨ So ready for the winter wonderland.

Join me as I try business class for the first time from shenyang to Harbin high-speed rail line! 🚄

I’ll show you everything:
✨ The lie-flat business class seat
🍱 The meal service (think hot bento, soup, fruit, and snacks)
⚡ Speeds up to 350 km/h
🌲 The changing scenery from shengyang to snowy Northeast China

Was it worth the upgrade? Absolutely yes especially arriving in Harbin well rested for the Ice Festival.

Who would have thought that Harbin has such a grand bathhouse! Walking in feels like stepping into an old European bathhouse (like ancient Greek style).
The ceiling is incredibly high, adorned with beautiful plasterwork and glittering golden chandeliers. The onsen pools are as spacious as those in a 6-star hotel.

Bathing zone – Warm and comfortable water, large tubs in various styles, crystal clear and clean.
Milk & rose bath – Perfect for photos, feels like a luxurious spa but at a friendly price.
Buffet – Hot dishes are constantly replenished, fresh fruits are excellent and generously served.
Walking zone – Ancient-style halls, truly reminiscent of Europe.
You can spend an entire day here without feeling guilty!

If you're visiting Harbin and want to relax your body + enjoy luxury at a great value = this is the place to be!

If you're in Harbin and want a premium, comfortable stay while keeping to a budget, I highly recommend Sofitel Harbin.

This is a world-class hotel brand with a luxurious French style. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the sophistication and tranquility of a 5-star hotel. The lobby is spacious, beautifully decorated, and effortlessly upscale.

The rooms are my favorite part. The beds are incredibly comfortable – you won't want to get up! The rooms are spacious with ample amenities, and the view of Harbin, especially at night, is stunning. The city lights instantly create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Another highlight is the excellent facilities, including the fitness center, swimming pool, and spa – truly luxurious amenities at the price. Considering the quality, it's more than worth it.

A very beautiful and interesting place for a stroll, just like the Arbat in the city center.

It's a pleasant place to stroll both during the day and in the evening, and you can find something interesting at any time of day.

The street is currently decorated with lanterns and other displays dedicated to the New Year.

During the day, it's worth strolling to admire the unusual building facades, architecture, and signs, and in the evening, enjoy the street illuminated.

In the evening, the street takes on a new look when all the lanterns are lit, the lights are on, literally every bench is lit, and music is playing 💫

There are many places to eat along the street, as well as numerous takeaways, and the aromas waft from literally every corner.
We decided to try the waffles with ice cream (pictured in the carousel) - they were delicious, we highly recommend them!

Grab a coffee, some waffles, and take a leisurely stroll... 💫 truly pleasant and romantic moments!

Keep in mind that it can get crowded in the evenings, especially on weekends. So the best time (at least for me) is on a weekday ☺️

Save a spot for a visit!

📍Trip Overview
- A relaxed, easygoing trip with lots of tasty food, and the weather wasn’t too cold.

 🚩Getting There
We traveled on a promo ticket from Bangkok to Harbin, round trip. On the outbound flight, we had a 2-hour layover in Guangzhou, and on the return flight, a 2-hour layover in Shenzhen. We flew with China Southern Airlines, which included meals, drinks, and 23 kg of checked baggage.

 🏖️Must-Visit Attractions
1. Central Street / Zhongyang Pedestrian Street (中央大街): A historic European-style pedestrian street.
2. St. Sophia Cathedral (圣索菲亚大教堂): A famous Russian Orthodox church.
3. Sun Island Scenic Area (太阳岛风景区): Sun Island, known for its snow sculpture displays. But when we went, the ice festival had already ended, so we took the cable car to enjoy the view of the still-frozen river.
4. Songhua River (松花江): A river that turns into an icy playground for winter activities.
6. Laodaowai Baroque Block (中华巴洛克历史文化街区): An old town district with Baroque-style architecture.
6. Harbin Pharmaceutical Group Sixth Pharmaceutical Factory
7. Hongzhuan Street Morning Market

 🚇Getting Around
This time, we used Didi for every stop on the trip. It was very affordable, around 9–15 yuan per ride.

 🍜Recommended Food
· You have to try the boiled fish with pickled mustard greens. It was sooo delicious.

 🏠Recommended Place to Stay
This time, we stayed at East Hotel. It was really great—close to Zhongyang Street and close to the church.

 💡Things to Keep in Mind
· Make sure to prepare your internet access well. You’ll use it a lot, all the time.

Who would believe that in Harbin there's a place that feels like you've been transported to Russia?

This is the Hagia Sophia Cathedral in Harbin, a magnificent red brick church with a green dome that's a must-see landmark in the city!

The first impression upon entering was amazement. The church is much larger and more striking than I expected. Especially if you go in winter… the white snow contrasting with the red brick is breathtaking! ❄️✨

There are so many photo opportunities!
📸 Straight-on shot = classic.
📸 Walking past = gives a candid European feel.
📸 Evening shot = the golden light reflecting off the church is stunning.

I recommend going in the evening to experience both the golden hour and the nighttime lights, creating an even more romantic atmosphere. 💡 #MustSeePlace

If you're staying near Harbin Railway Station, this restaurant is a "lifesaver during freezing weather." Located right next to CheerMay Hotel Harbin, it's just a few steps away and also close to the subway station—super convenient, especially when the temperature drops to -20°C 😂

🍢 Highlight Menu

The restaurant specializes in Northern Chinese-style skewers:
· Meat skewers
· Snacks / Fried dishes / Single-plate meals are also available

Prices are reasonable, and the portions are "generous," ensuring you're fully satisfied.

🏠 Clean and comfortable atmosphere with spacious seating arrangements.

⸻
💙 Who is it suitable for?

✔ Those staying near Harbin Railway Station
✔ People who don't want to walk far in the cold
✔ Late-night diners / Hungry after visiting the Ice Festival
✔ Anyone looking for warm, simple, and convenient food

⸻

✨ Perfect for trips where you've been walking all day and don't want to venture far. Highly recommended for anyone staying in this area 👍❄️💙
