DyreI stayed at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach from 24 to 27 July.
On the evening of 25 July, while applying body lotion as part of my normal daily routine, I noticed several small marks on my shoulder and upper inner thigh/groin area that appeared to be possible insect bites. I apply body lotion every day and am certain these marks were not present on the evening of 24 July after check-in.
It was winter on the Gold Coast, and on 25 July I spent most of the day inside a shopping centre, wearing long sleeves and long trousers outdoors. I cannot say with certainty where the marks came from, but later that evening I also saw insects in the room and immediately reported the matter to the hotel.
I did not want to remain in that room. I repeatedly tried to contact Trip.com because, based on previous experience, they have helped arrange alternative accommodation when hotel problems occur. Unfortunately, I could not reach Trip.com that night.
The hotel told me it was fully booked and offered only two options: move to a room without air conditioning or remain in the same room after it had been cleaned. As it was late, I was overseas, and I had no practical alternative, I reluctantly accepted the temporary arrangement.
That same evening, the hotel told me that I would be upgraded to another room the following day and that breakfasts on 26 and 27 July would be complimentary. Before accepting, I asked what would happen if the marks became worse. The staff did not make any promise regarding my physical condition or responsibility. They simply explained that the cleaning, room upgrade and breakfasts were “extra” goodwill gestures. I accepted based on that explanation and because I had no realistic alternative that night.
The staff who initially handled my complaint were polite, professional and genuinely tried to help. My main disappointment was the hotel’s internal communication.
For clarity, I paid for breakfast on 25 July myself. The hotel promised complimentary breakfasts only for 26 and 27 July, and I did not even have breakfast on 26 July.
Despite this, I had to explain the same arrangement three times:
1. When collecting the key for the upgraded room on 26 July, the front desk initially said breakfast was not included.
2. On the morning of 27 July, the restaurant reception again said I needed to pay.
3. At check-out on 27 July, the front desk attempted to charge me for three breakfasts.
The charges were eventually removed, but only after I explained the situation again.
My criticism is not directed at individual employees, as everyone I dealt with was polite and willing to help. The real issue was the lack of communication between the department handling my complaint, the front desk and the restaurant.
The location is excellent and the staff attitude was generally good, but discovering possible insect bites and insects in the room was already stressful. Having to repeat the same issue three times because the hotel’s own goodwill arrangement had not been communicated internally made the experience even more disappointing.
I hope the hotel improves its room hygiene, complaint-handling procedures and communication between departments.

RunfeishenghuoThe environment was just so-so, and the price was way too high. The rooms are tiny, even the suites aren't very spacious. The sea view is nothing special. The pool was really dirty, full of sand on the bottom. Housekeeping definitely wasn't up to par, I do not recommend this place! The guy at the front desk was unhelpful and couldn't answer any of my questions. Plus, the balcony in the room is small, and they even charge extra for coffee at breakfast!

Guest UserHaving stayed at several other hotels since, I can confidently say this one is still the best. The room has everything you need for living and cooking. There's a shop nearby. We happily cooked steaks almost every day. The view from the window is beautiful, and it's only on the 13th floor. The elevators are silent and super-fast. Remember, this is an apart-hotel, so cleaning isn't daily. Our room was cleaned once during our 5-night stay, which was generally sufficient. If you accumulate trash, there's a special room with bins on each floor. The soundproofing is decent. The reception quickly resolves any issues, and you can store your luggage there. We arrived late, and I was worried about being met and checked in, so I messaged the hotel in advance, but it turned out there were plenty of other late arrivals like us at 11 PM. The rooms provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and body lotion from the excellent Australian brand Kevin Murphy. On the 5th floor, there's an indoor and outdoor heated pool, a sauna, and a gym. The hotel's location is ideal. There's a tram stop right behind it, and the main shopping center is a 5-minute walk away. All in all, we were satisfied. We'd love to come back here.

VVVVvvvvvvmThe Story Bridge is visible from the window, and the view is absolutely beautiful. Although a part of the Story Bridge view is obstructed, it's still worth choosing. The breakfast selection is rich and the taste is excellent.

XuanxuanbutinghuaThe hotel's front desk service was quite good; they even gave a small gift once they knew I was a Marriott Platinum member. The room was a bit damp, but clean enough. It's great for kids; we spent three days enjoying the hotel's beach and pool and didn't even want to go out. While the amenities can't compare to a water park, they were still very good. We'll definitely go back. The hotel breakfast was decent, just a bit crowded, so you had to queue.

QingfengbaoziUpon check-in, I was given a room with an obstructed view. It was on a high floor, but the view wasn't perfect. I then went to the front desk to explain, and the staff were very enthusiastic about finding a room with a better view. They even showed me a few options before I confirmed one, and then they helped us switch rooms and move our luggage. The service was fantastic! The hotel's view is unbeatable, truly the best in Gold Coast. I didn't even want to leave. There's a small supermarket downstairs with all the basic necessities. It's only about 400 meters to the light rail station, which is incredibly convenient for getting around the entire Gold Coast. The hotel rooms are fully equipped with kitchenware, a washing machine, and a dryer – everything you could possibly need, it's so complete!

_____chansakiRight outside the hotel, there's a night market which was a lot of fun. The location was incredibly convenient; everything I wanted to visit was within walking distance. I brought my own amenities, so it wasn't an issue, but they didn't provide toothbrushes or hairbrushes. All the staff were friendly, and overall, I had a very satisfying stay.

jeromecThere was no staff at the front desk when we arrived at 5pm. After 5 minutes, a female staff member named Kayla came out and helped a man because the man hadn't bought a travel adapter and couldn't connect to WiFi because of his phone problem. My family hadn't been kept standing and waited for 10 minutes because of no staff and later just one staff helping other's personal problems. Then Kayla started serving my family to check in.
But it's another magical 25-minute process.
She got my info and card tapped for deposit within 5 minutes. I thought very soon my room key cards will be given to me. But I then have to stand and keep looking at the back of the desktop computer she is using for 15 minutes. She pressed many buttons on the keyboard. But all my family members feel she is not good at IT.
Later, two male and another smart female staff are out and help other customers to complete the check-ins. Those entered later than me can get the room key cards earlier because other staff are far more efficient than Kayla.
While the two male staff are helping the man's phone connection to WiFi, Kayla put me aside and joined the two male staff to look at the phone. I was shocked how Kayla can keep me standing for 40 minutes and go away without giving me the room key cards. I told Kayla I'm in a hurry then it seems that's the moment she started working for my room key. Finally, I got the key 5 minutes later.
I spent only two nights in Brisbane and this 45-minute check-in had already took a large part of my holiday. Maybe this is Kayla's way to keep people spending time in Brisbane and in her hotel.
