Aha Alpine Heath Resort
"An ok resort to take family for a brief vacation. They have a shop on the resort with limited items. Make sure you bring everything you need as outside shops are far. The buffet just ok, nothing special. Bring lots of mosquito repellents. Some equipment in the play zone broken. Restaurant orders take a bit of time when they are full."
Cayley Mountain Resort
"The views are spectacular. The chalets we booked are modern and clean. It is relaxing for a few days, but the activities are overpriced, so it could be a problem for a longer stay. Downside: We booked 1 room as a couple and the rest of the family booked a full chalet. The downside is if you do not book a full chalet, you share the chalet with strangers, where the entrance and entrance hall are shared. It was awkward for us as they had the lounge/kitchen and room, but left their door wide open, so when we came to our room, we were blasted with their noise and cooking smells. Our room just smelled like food. The full chalet is better as each room has their own en-suite bathroom and can accommodate families and friends, yet still giving everyone their privacy."
Cathedral Peak Hotel
"The standard hotel room was very comfortable and had all we needed for a very pleasant 3-night stay. The food at every meal was delicious and there was enough variety to suit every palate. There was lots of information on walks and hikes and other activities which made it easy to do things on your own or at specified times in organised groups."
Little Switzerland Resort by Dream Resorts
"We stopped over on the way back from the north coast and really enjoyed our stay, we last stayed here in the early 2000’s and it’s as good as I remember it being then, from the guards the gate to check in and all the staff in between the service was amazing with a smile on everyone’s faces. We ate supper at the restaurant twice and enjoyed the food. We did a hike which was well marked and challenging with the views. We stayed in a self catering unit 114 which was well appointed and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again."
Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort
"From the moment you step into the reception area and are welcomed with warmth and professionalism, you know you are in for a special stay. The unit was impeccably clean and beautifully maintained, creating the perfect environment to relax and unwind. The entire weekend was both revitalizing and enjoyable, with plenty of amenities and activities available to keep you entertained throughout the stay. "
Spion Kop Lodge
"WE WENT THERE TO CELEBRATE OUR 56TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. OLD BUILDING BUT EXCELLENT AMBIANCE AND NICE SHADED PARKING. THE ROOM WAS HUGE AND THE SHOWER WAS GOOD WITH NICE HOT WATER. THE BEST PART OF OUR STAY WERE THE EXCELLENT DINNERS WITH STEAK THE FIRST NIGHT AND LAMB CHOPS THE SECOND NIGHT COOKED TO PERFECTION. LOVELY THREE COURSE MEAL. WE FURTHER ENJOYED OUR OUTING TO THE SPIOENKOP BATTLEFIELD WHICH IS ABOUT 30KMS FROM THE LODGE."
Three Tree Hill Lodge
"As part of a 2 week tour in Kwa-Zulu Natal we stayed at Three Tree Hill Lodge for three nights. It was a wonderful lodge, with plenty to do on site and nearby. We did a game walk, horse riding, a self-guided walk and went up Three Tree Hill to learn more about what happened in the Boer War, which was fascinating, and a part of history we hadn't explored before. This also enabled us to observe Spion Kop, which is where the various football grounds have taken the name from. The lodge was beautifully set up, with the main building, where meals were served, having a large veranda around it, so you could make the most of the warm and sunny days. The food was excellent, and the lunches were particularly innovative, and a big hit with us. The staff were terrific too, with a shout out to Melanie, who was super friendly and very helpful, and Ruben, who seemed to know everything about the Boer War and was very knowledgable on the history of South Africa, and lastly Anel, who did a great job on the sundowners, and the horses. If you are taking a tour of KZN, this should definitely be on your list for a stopover."
The Nest Drakensberg Mountain Resort Hotel
"We had such an incredible stay at The Nest! The staff went above and beyond to make our family celebration truly special. We were a group of 8 spanning three generations, gathered to celebrate a 21st birthday, and every detail was perfect. The rooms were spotless, with super comfortable beds, electric blankets, and underfloor heating — plus hot, powerful showers. We enjoyed scenic walks, abundant birdlife, and the spa was an added treat with very reasonable prices. A memorable, happy stay — thank you to The Nest team!"
Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort
"I've been here numerous times, even flown in once which was fun. The general area has lots to do from bird viewing to bird shows, hiking, cycling, golf, wonderful artisinal shops, the best zipline I've used and more. Dragon Peaks itself has spectacular views of Cathkin Peak, Sterkhorn and Champagne Castle. We had both chalet and camping accommodation on this trip. The camping ablutions are the only let down in peak season with little hot water."

Montusi Mountain Lodge
"Family run lodge in beautiful landscape with acres of walks in the estate as well as the amphitheater nearby. We could not fault the management and staff for a unique personal experience which was relaxed and friendly but also five star service. Wonderful breakfasts ( thereby no lunch needed!) and homely lodges set in the well tended grounds. Horse riding and mountain biking also available. Lovely pool."
Memra Guest House
"We booked in for 2 nights on the 23rd and 24th of September. Our host Magda was warm and welcoming even at a 23h00 check in. She was so obliging and walked down to the guest room with milk, tea, sugar and coffee in hand to check us in. The room, kitchenette and bathroom was exceptionally clean. We were never asked for payment at any stage of our stay. I would highly recommend Memra Regards Charlton "
Royal Hotel Ladysmith
"We went for a Christmas Lunch the food was so tasteless, the only thing I enjoyed was the starters. Whooo the buttered chicken was terrible. The only thing that was better on their main meal was the pork and lamb the rest was horibble. I just wasted my money what Ana awful. Christmas I had😔"
Mont Aux Sources Drakensberg Resort
"I booked three chalets (from Australia for family reunion in SA after 3 years) for 27 -29 December 2024 which turned out to be a disaster. Late check in (4-5 hours late), rooms were not cleaned, and toilet was not working. No wifi. I almost wanted to book an additional night or two, however did not. There was no offer to compensate the poor service and mismanagement of this facility, nor refund for delays and poor facilities. It's a pity that such a beautiful location is mismanaged and misrepresented. Trust and service will take time to re-build. Your future is not good."
Sasi Bush Lodge
Sandford Park Country Hotel
"The overlook exterior look needs some tlc…..simple things like cutting grass, security uniform even gold shirts so its easy to recognise that this is security and this is housekeeping staff and so forth… Room was okay for the amount we paid but there was no 2 pin plug so we could charge our phones, no telephone to call reception to enquire, we needed an iron and an ironing board , we were given a small dirty iron with no ironing board because it broke. Luckily we didn’t experience loadshedding as there was no back up."
Windmill Farm
"I had a relaxed and peaceful holiday. The scenery was breathtaking and I recommend Windmill Farm for distressing. "
Ardmore Guest Farm
"What a great stay we had at Ardmore. The personnel is very friendly and always willing to assist. Plenty of room and everything was in place, working, clean and pleasant. Our doggy also loved it and our "yard" was fenced of so that our little pug was safe. There was also treats for our doggy every time we went to the reception area. The farm is lovely with lots of space for walking, photography and just chilling around. the grand piano at the restaurant was a big bonus! Great views of the Berg. It is situated in the heart of the central berg and can be recommended. We will definitely visit again."
