4-Star Hotels in Funchal

We really enjoyed our stay at Baia Azul. This hotel has everything! Gorgeous views from the lounge area, a lovely bar with entertainment at night, excellent service, lovely comfortable rooms, and a very nice pool area. We cannot fault it! The breakfast was also lovely. Would definitely stay here again!

The staff is friendly, the room is a good size and everything was clean. The room has a mini fridge, slippers and robes. They also provide pool towels. There is a cleaning service everyday and they change all the towels, including the ones for the pool. The bed was not the best as it was quite hard and had a spring mattress. We enjoyed the indoor pool, the jacuzzi and sauna. We haven't tried the outdoor pool as we only spent time there in the evenings. The breakfast was good. I'd come back as it was a nice experience overall.

The hotel facilities and location are amazing! The rooms are big and the bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is good with many options. The only negative point is the lack of detail in the service. The y offer only one water bottle per room and charge for refill, they offer no vanity kit or sleepers. Emitem magnólia could be a top hotel in Madeira if they pay more attention to the details. Overall we had a good time anyway.

Charming hotel with spacious and bright rooms, a well-kept garden and a wonderful view over Funchal. The property is original and very interesting, though perhaps in need of some care. The available parking is a real plus. Quiet location yet close to the city center, with always friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere, highly recommended for a pleasant stay.

The experience at Pestana Ocean Bay was quite pleasant. The staff were always very friendly and attentive, always helping when needed. They definitely have a team that cares about the guest, is attentive, and empathetic. I felt very welcomed. In a questionnaire I completed mid-stay, I mentioned that the buffets could have grapes (this is because my daughter really likes them, and grapes were a fruit that hadn't yet emerged). I made this observation thinking it wouldn't even be read. However, the next day, when we arrived in our room, we had a beautiful plate of grapes. At that moment, we felt welcomed, as if we were at home. It was a gesture of care that touched us. Congratulations on this and for actually reading the questionnaires, which we often think no one will read and care about what's written there. They are well organized, presented, and manage everything involved in a stay: meals, evening entertainment, outings/tours, etc. Keep up the excellent work ☺️ Thank you.

This hotel's advantage lies in its excellent location in Funchal's hotel district, opposite a large shopping mall with a large supermarket. The hotel has its own free parking, swimming pool, and tennis court. The room was only so-so, the facilities were rather old, but the sea view somewhat made up for it. Perhaps because it's a popular tourist destination, the smiles of the receptionists seemed a bit forced. Although the room had a kitchen, there were no condiments. However, one long-haired lady on the evening shift was very kind and patiently recommended restaurants, writing down the names of nearby eateries for me. The Madeira Islands are indeed a popular tourist destination, so accommodation is generally not cheap. This hotel has the advantage of a good location, situated in the hotel area of ​​Funchal, with a large shopping mall right across the street, and there is also a large supermarket inside. My second stay at Alto Lido this year and it was even better than the first. Staff is professional and polite. I was kindly surprised with a room upgrade which was beautiful and comfortable. Lovely modern hotel. I will definitely be back again.

The hotel was good but I think 5-star is a bit too much. It’s a standard 4-star hotel. Location is close to Funchal but having a rental car is a must. Hotel also has a parking lot which is very good considering it being a challenge in many areas

A big thank you to the wonderful team at the Golden Residence hotel. From the bottle of sparkling wine to the small gestures like the candy offered at check-out, our stay was excellent. The indoor pool and Turkish bath are a must, in addition to the outdoor pool. The rooms are large, with a living room and kitchenette; the only thing missing was a TV in the bedroom. Very good location.

Very sociable kind staff who talk to you like a regular friend coming in, plain rooms but nice sized windows for the fresh air, great rooftop view alllllll over the mountain and the ocean - especially lovely at night as everything is lit up. Cute bar setup aside the pool too! Good price for its perfect location and cleanliness and covering all the basics and a bit more. Good brunch cafe just across the street facing the cafe! The staff were super helpful with setting up a late checkin too.
