"Finding a hostel of Olive Hostel's quality in Roxas City was a pleasant surprise.
I booked it because I needed to catch an early morning flight the next day, and it was only a 10-minute walk from the airport. However, after staying there, I found the warmth and friendliness even more appealing than the convenient location.
The receptionist was incredibly welcoming from the moment I entered. His smile wasn't a professional fake smile; it genuinely treated me like a friend from afar. The room, while not large, was extremely clean, even the sheets had a faint scent of sunshine – a huge plus for a solo traveler with allergies. The best part was their free breakfast: freshly baked Pan de Sal bread with hot coffee. Enjoying it slowly in the sunny courtyard instantly created a relaxed, vacation-like atmosphere.
The common areas were well-designed. In the evenings, you could enjoy the breeze on the terrace and occasionally chat with other backpackers – the social distancing was just right. Despite being in the city center, it was surprisingly quiet at night.
If you're like me, traveling alone and don't want to stay in a cold, impersonal hotel, but also don't want a dirty, cheap hostel, this is definitely the place to go. By the way, his family actually has a backup generator, which is a lifesaver in the Philippines where power outages are so frequent."
