The entrance was a bit hard to find, but locals were super helpful and guided me right to it. The hot spring bathhouse is huge, and the water is flowing and very clean. No waiting around, so I could just relax and enjoy the soak. It was perfect for relieving the muscle fatigue from hiking the Kumano Kodo.

The room was a bit dated, but it was quite comfortable. The owner looked a bit like Li Zongsheng and could speak a little English. He was very welcoming. The town is small, so small that it's only about 100 meters from end to end. By the way, the B&B is next to the bus station, which is very convenient if you have a lot of luggage.

On the Kumano Kodo (Kumano Kodo Trail), near the Kawayu stop, the onsen hotel I chose is right across from a natural river bath. The hotel offers free shovels so you can dig your own bath in the river. I recommend bringing a swimsuit. The hotel also has its own indoor and outdoor public onsen. I booked a room that included the outdoor bath. Staying only one night might be a bit too much. I booked a one-night, two-meal package. Without meals in the mountains, you'd probably only be able to eat instant noodles. The Kumano beef served here was excellent. There's also a dedicated bus stop at the entrance with direct buses to Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and Shingu.

An old hot spring hotel located at the innermost of Tangfeng Hot Spring Street. You need to climb a small slope. Those with suitcases need to pay attention. You should be able to ask the hotel to pick you up. The hotel room is spacious and the facilities are a bit old, but the hygiene is good, the service staff is lovely, the dinner is also a standard Japanese set meal, the large bathroom has open-air and indoor, the water temperature is hot enough, you can recover your physical strength very well, and there is a car to take you to the bus station of Tangfeng Street in the morning.

Kumano Honno is the hometown of hot springs. It includes Tangzhifeng Hot Spring, Chuantang Hot Spring, and Duyu Hot Spring. Compared with the famous Chuantang Hot Spring, the Duyu Hot Spring Hotel we booked is more niche and quieter in a small mountain. The hotel has three floors, each floor is 10 and the foreign room. The room is large, twin bed + tatami, facing the river bank, the window is cherry blossoms. There are two hotels and four soup pools, you can soak, there is the largest open-air wind in Western Japan and the Japanese family special loan cut open-air wind.
