Comfort Hotel Kii Tanabe ★★
"Excellent location, very near the train station. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Great starting point for the Kumano Kodo walk."
Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya ★★★
"After we checked in, we were headed to Fushimi Inari Taisha and had just missed the bus. To our surprise, the hotel arranged a shuttle bus to take us there, which was incredibly thoughtful. The hotel has just been renovated, so it's very clean. The food is also exquisite. This is definitely a perfect hotel I'd highly recommend."
Hotel Kii Tanabe ★★★
"Good location near Kii Tanabe station. Friendly staff. Near eateries and Zozanji temple. Tokei Jinja was also within walking distance."
KAMENOI HOTEL KUMANO TANABE ★★★★
"Don't book this hotel! The most annoying hotel in Japan! My reservation was authentic and valid. When I arrived at the hotel, the hotel front desk manager could not understand English or Chinese. He told me that there was no way to check in. This store discriminated against Chinese people. At 2 o'clock in the morning, I was a girl sleeping on the streets abroad with my luggage. So far, I booked it with Ctrip overseas. This software is just like the hotel in evading responsibility, and it still hasn't given me a solution! They refused to let me check in and deducted my money!"
J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse ★★★
"The guesthouse has a hot spring and bamboo groves, and it's very close to the bus stop, making it a great place for hiking."
SEN.RETREAT CHIKATSUYU ★★★
"Will definitely come back with family and friends. Everything's well prepared with balance of privacy and nice view. Indoor and outdoor spaces are so well planes. Very healing!"
Kawayu Onsen Fujiya ★★★★
"This hotel is perfect for a relaxing one day stay. It’s right beside a sapphire-blue river in the middle of the mountains. The in-room onsen is more than big enough for two people and they also have communal baths. They also offer a free shuttle to the start of a stretch of the Kumano Kodo if you want to hike the next day."
SEN.RETREAT HONGU - Kumano Kodo Gateway ★★
"The room was very clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were provided, but it would have been even better if the time they were left was indicated."
Tanabe Station Hotel ★★
"Very convenient location"

Ashita No Mori
"The room is clean and comfortable, with a hot spring opposite and two private baths in the hotel. The boss was very enthusiastic and took the initiative to introduce me to the itinerary for the next day. It’s best to book one with dinner and breakfast, so you don’t have to go out to find it. The bus stop is right next to the hotel, which is convenient."
Kumano Ayukawa-juku
"The room was very clean and the facilities were complete. The owner was very welcoming; knowing I was leaving early, he got up early to prepare breakfast for me. The breakfast was plentiful, with yogurt, coffee, bread, fruit, and fruit and vegetable juice. He even kindly drove me to the last two places on the Kumano Kodo trail where I could get my stamp."
SEN.RETREAT TAKIJIRI
"This is an unmanned hotel. You'll be given the main door code before check-in, and the room code is only given after completing the check-in process using a tablet at the entrance. (We gave the wrong code and were temporarily stuck outside... but thankfully, contacting customer service resolved the issue.) There's a shared kitchen, dining area, and washer/dryer (free!). Dinner and breakfast for the following day are prepared in the room, and there are drinks and ice cream in the refrigerator. Pajamas, towels, and toothbrush sets are provided. It's a bit far from the bus stop, about a 15-minute walk to Takijiri, and there are no convenience stores nearby; however, the hotel is clean and comfortable, and the price is reasonable."
Kirari-Ryujin
"nice room, nice food, nice service and wonderful onsen"
Watarase Onsen Hotel Yamayuri
"My husband & I enjoyed staying here with its 70s vibe. Very calm & peaceful. Lovely private onsens with no wait. Koyama-san at reception was exceptional! The Kaiseki dinner was a new experience for us and the wait staff were very helpful!"
Ryokan Bijintei
"Excellent! 1. The owner is very welcoming. 2. Excellent location, right next to the station. 3. Beautiful environment. 4. I fell asleep to birdsong every night. 5. The hotel's hot spring is very clean. 6. The food is delicious."
Motoyu Bekkan
"It’s more for family vacation or friends staycation. Kitchen is well equipped, nearby is only 2 eateries, bus transportation is available but very limited . Bring some food over so u can cook dinner n breakfast for yourself"
Kirinosato Takahara
"Recently stay at this onsen inn during our Oku Kumano Kodo self-guided tour. The room is really spacious and has a wonderful view of the mountains, the hosts were warm, kind and cooked us wonderful meals. Will definitely recommend this place to all travelers!"
Ryujin Onsen Marui Ryokan
"Nice little family run Japanese inn. Owner is a lady over 80 years old who still manages the hotel and greets all the guests like they are family. Traditional clean and comfortable tatami rooms which they set up for sleeping while you are at dinner. The wooden onsen is not very big but nice and hot and has a big picture window looking out on trees. Good hearty locally sourced food, very filling unlike some other multi course Japanese meals. Very friendly staff who seem genuinely happy when you try greeting them in in however much Japanese you've learned."
Shimogoten
"Escape the ordinary and discover an unforgettable, authentic Japanese onsen experience at this hidden gem, far from the typical tourist trail! Tucked away in a serene, off-the-beaten-path location, this traditional onsen is a rare find for travelers seeking something truly special. My wife, two young kids, and I were blown away by the tranquil, rejuvenating atmosphere during our stay. The owner’s wife, with her excellent English, went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed, treating us like cherished guests in their own home. The warm, attentive staff made every moment feel personal and heartfelt. This is not your standard Japanese tourist stop—it’s a cultural treasure for those craving an authentic, soul-soothing retreat. A word of advice for drivers: triple-check the address and stick to main roads to avoid any navigation hiccups. You’ll thank me later! Come for a unique, immersive experience that will leave you refreshed and inspired."
SEN.RETREAT TAKAHARA
"Nicely designed, good location, thx for the free drinks"
Hotel Nankairo
"It's less than a 5-minute walk straight from the station. According to the description, it's a long-established hotel. It's on the second floor. I arrived early and was able to store my luggage. I only saw staff when I checked in later that night. The single room was quite small, but clean and tidy. The bathroom was a little small, but it was adequate."
Mirai Noen
"This was a long time ago, but... it was the worst lodging I've ever stayed at in my life. There was no hygiene at all. I hope they improve it for future guests. There is a separate accommodation building, the master's house, and a detached room. Opposite the main house is a detached room! It feels like a storage shed💦 The entrance is through the farmhouse storehouse. There was food left over from the previous guest, even in the fridge! 20,000 yen a night (New Year's rate) is just too bad! The room in the main house may be comfortable, but the detached room is definitely not worth the fee. I was dying to go home..."
Yunominesou
"A pleasant mid-range onsen hotel."
Nouka Minpaku Mirainouen
"The room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant."
Ryokan Sakai
"The accommodation fee was expressed as 、 confusing. ¥ 9,800 〜 Discount if you pay in cash on site. It was different when I went to the site."
