This hotel was assigned as part of a package with a river cruise company, so I did not choose it myself. One of this property's strongest assets is its location. It sits behind Piazza Cavour, which is right on the waterfront promenade of Como. You really cannot get a better location, as it's walking distance to all the popular spots in Como. Our tour company paid for the Lake View Double Rooms, which gave us enviable views over the square and the lake. We even had a lovely semi-private terrace to sit out there and enjoy the views. Others in our group did not have a terrace, and were disappointed. Our room had two twin beds which were fairly comfortable, and the room was a decent size. The furniture and decor are all belonging to the 70s-80s era, and are in need of an update. The bathroom had so many problems. The sink didn't have enough shelf space / storage, and there are never enough towels. There was barely enough legroom between the toilet and the bidet placed directly in front of it. It just took up needed space. I absolutely detest the kind of shower/tub combo that was in this bathroom. The narrow bathtub with tall walls is extremely dangerous, as you cannot safely turn around in it while showering. Then add the ridiculous half-piece-of-glass that allows water to get all over the floor, and you have a huge safety situation when trying to step out of the shower onto a wet floor. In fact, a member of our tour group fell in the shower and ended up in the hospital. Afterward, we were offered rubber tub mats for traction - but at a minimum, those should be provisioned in every bathroom by default. More ideally, a walk in shower should be installed. There are only 2 elevators, and both are miniscule. So expect a wait, or take the stairs. The breakfast room got crowded with all the tour groups there, and the available items were mediocre. There was no self-service coffee/latte machine like so many other hotels in Europe have, which was a disappointment. Overall, this hotel has many good and bad features. If you care more about the location, this may be a good choice. But if you care more about quality of the accommodation, then you may want to look elsewhere.

It is a small hotel, with 18 rooms, the front desk is very small, and there is always only one person. The price of 5 stars, the room is about 3-4 stars, and the service is about 3 stars. But we missed a mobile phone after we checked out. The hotel found out and contacted us by email. We replied to the email and asked them to arrange for DHL to send it back (fees at their own expense). They dealt with it in a timely manner. Thank you very much.

Highly recommend DO NOT BOOK that horrible hotel! There are much better accommodations around. 03.09- 04.09 Me & my boyfriend paid 230 euros for one night's stay in that hotel (COMO) The receptionist (Cristian) said the policy of the hotel obliges us to pay the whole amount for accommodation while check-in. So we did. I paid the whole amount in cash. The next day 04.09 hotel charged me again the same whole price for my stay by using my card details. I called reception, and Claudia told me that she will call me back, but she never did, she left home without telling any colleagues about my problem. I called reception again the next day and Claudia when she heard that it's me she said that I have to wait for an answer. I asked her how long because I need my money and I want to know when will I have it back, but she dropped the phone! DROPPED THE PHONE! So I don't even know what to do, it is super humiliating to face such an attitude, should I bag the hotel to get my money back?! They do not reply to the emails, do not call me back, or hang the phone if I call. I don't want to go to the police, but what else can I do?! The hotel in Como and the hotel in Milan have two different owners, so even in Milan, they said that they can not do anything to help me. It's the first time in all my travel experience I face such rudeness and unprofessionalism. Apart from that, we did the checkout at 11.15, so we were 15 min late. The receptionist (Claudia) charged us 15 euros (1 euro per minute) for the late checkout. More of that, she insisted that I should pay as well for the late checkout for the other guests, that Im not related to! Because we booked our rooms at the same time for her it means that we are friends and I will pay for them as well! I couldn't do anything since she had my card, I was obliged to pay. The other guests, paid for their rooms separately, with another card, but Claudia still charged me those 40 euro! That is unacceptable! I was very mad, so I told Claudia the trough ”That is the worst hotel I had ever stayed” and Claudia replied, ”YOU ARE THE WORST CUSTOMER EVER”. Apart from all that, the rooms are very poor, the view is horrible! For many years there are the construction works in front, so that will be the view from your balcony! The walls are so thin that you can literally hear all the conversations of the other guests. The location of the hotel is OK, very close to Lake Como, right on the commercial street. There are supermarkets, McDonald's restaurants nearby, and the hotel also has its own breakfast. However, the breakfast is a bit worse than other three-stars, but the price includes breakfast and it is very good. The heating in the hotel is not warm, it is recommended to ask the front desk for a quilt if it is cold. If there is no breakfast in the room, don’t spend 10 Euros per person for breakfast in the hotel. It is better to go directly to the nearby McDonald’s or have breakfast at the bar. It’s about 5 Euros for two people. If you drive to the hotel, it is recommended to call in advance and set the location of the hotel. There are not too many cars in the yard at the entrance of the hotel. 15 euros a day for parking

The staff are friendly and the location is relatively ideal except for the church which the hotel backs onto. The breakfast was good and the room was a pretty good size, but the AC was rattly and the beds were uncomfortable with flat pillows. There were no additional pillows in the room, instead we had to ask at the desk. We didn't get fresh towels until we asked for additional ones either and the walls were pretty thin. The elevator was also very small And then there was the bathroom. Very little thought had gone into the bathroom. The configuration was all wrong and seemed to have been designed in a hurry with accessibility (fortunately not a priority for us) an afterthought. There were two showers, one in the back where there was not even a light, a tiny shower head, half unusable shower rack and the bidet right in front of the shower door. The ”accessible” shower with seat was right in front of the door with no screen, nothing to protect the door or the rest of the bathroom. The positioning of this shower and the rails didn't seem to be cohesive for actual accessible use that would allow a disabled person dignity and independence. The toilet and the sink were both huge which again didn't make it seem very disability friendly. There were also two toilet roll holders for some reason. As me and my friend could also only just fit into the elevator, I have my doubts about a wheelchair being able to fit in there Como was beautiful, I hope to go again, but not at this hotel!

Tucked back behind some lakefront restaurants, this gem of a hotel was a true find. Quaint, charming, well-appointed, and an excellent location. It's like you are in an old convent with courtyards that has been lovingly restored and updated. Old stone walls in the rooms. There is only a small sign on a wall on the walkway back to the hotel - you will miss it and not know if you are in the right place, but the staff of the restaurants probably get asked so much, that one of them approached us and asked if we were looking for the hotel. :-) No street noise. Breakfast under the arches outside the main entrance started our days beautifully. Food was probably the best we had for breakfasts in two-week trip. Fresh fruit included berries; pastry and bread selection was great, cheese, vegetables, grains - something for everyone. The front desk staff were super helpful and warm. We loved our room - the Coloniale. Easy key-pad entry, umbrellas for use (which we had to use). This property exudes character and is not your run-of-the mill chain. It is a boutique experience and we loved every minute of our stay!

The hotel is easily accessible by bus No. 1 or No. 6 to Como COMO S. Giovanni train station, and the bus stop turns right at the hotel entrance. Crossing the street opposite the hotel is the Old Town Gate. It takes 15 minutes to get to the lakeside ferry ticket office and pass 2 famous churches.
