AAstrxdThe environment was very comfortable and relaxing. Beautiful view whwre you can see some of the sea of clouds. They give you disposable coverings for you to put on top of the fresh pillow bedding and mattress for extra hygiene which is a nice touch I haven't seen before. Bathroom is very clean, though there are only two toilets and two showers and two sinks, so do note that for busy season, but it wasn't an issue at all during my stay. They provided breakfast too, fresh milk the boss heated for me when I got up, and red sugar glutinous rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves (babas), and it was fun to get ready for the day with new friends on the balcony overlooking the village. I think the environment is very good for meeting new friends and other solo travelers- I arrived at the hostel randomly at the same time as three other girls, and we explored Manghong togetjer on the boss's recommendations for itinerary and sightseeing. And the next day the boss dropped us off at a tea roasting experience, and just as we were heading to Nuogan another girl from the hostel finished her tea roasting session, so we all went to Nuogan togetjer to play. The boss even helped load my luggage onto the shuttle bus so that it could pick me up at a sightseeing spot further down the mountain!

GGuest UserThis is a newly opened hotel. **Facilities:** New, though some items are of lower quality, like the kettle. They have automatic toilets. **Hygiene:** Clean. **Environment:** Spacious and grand. **Service:** Enthusiastic. The breakfast is plentiful and offers great value for money. They offer three meals a day, and even though I didn't have time to try them all, I could sense the owner's generosity and pioneering spirit. I sincerely hope their management improves, and their business thrives.

YYeyThe luckiest decision on my trip to Wengji Ancient Village in Jingmai Mountain was choosing Guesthouse No. 69. This guesthouse, run by Brother Ni, didn't rely on flashy advertising, but its thoughtful details made every guest feel a warmth that exceeded expectations, becoming the most precious memory of the entire trip. The guesthouse's location is prime, situated in the heart of the ancient village, surrounded by cafes and specialty restaurants. The popular Beigui Coffee Shop is diagonally opposite, so whether you're looking for a cup of coffee in the morning or a delicious meal in the evening, you don't have to go far. Even more surprisingly, the room had its own small balcony, comfortable and cozy, so I decided to extend my stay. The room facilities were new, spacious and bright, the bedding was soft and comfortable against the skin, and the pillows were especially good. Combined with the tranquility of the ancient village at night, it ensured a good night's sleep. A smart toilet and user-friendly shower facilities were all provided, and toiletries and other daily necessities were exceptionally complete, dispelling all my concerns about accommodation in the ancient village, making my stay comfortable. The owner's enthusiasm and his wife's thoughtfulness were also the most touching aspects of this trip. They were like long-lost friends, sharing travel tips for the ancient village, inviting us to sample their homemade Pu'er tea, and chatting warmly and sincerely. The guesthouse breakfast was a delightful surprise: flavorful rice noodles with plenty of ingredients, sweet corn, eggs from local free-range chickens, and refreshing grapes 🍇😋😋😋. The guesthouse also offers ethnic costume rental services, with exclusive discounts for guests. Wearing Bulang ethnic clothing and taking photos on the ancient village's cobblestone streets and beside old banyan trees instantly immerses you in the local atmosphere. The owner even took a break from his busy schedule to show us the sunrise and sea of clouds; the tranquility and healing away from the hustle and bustle were unforgettable. There's no commercial alienation here, only the warmth and comfort of home. Next time I visit Jingmai Mountain, I'll definitely return to this ”warm little home” hidden in the ancient village.

BBugentuandetuanchangThe owners, a husband and wife, are very kind and helpful. They offered to help with parking and provided travel tips for nearby attractions. The soup for the breakfast noodles was slow-cooked by the owner's wife 🤫 The nearby attractions are all incredibly beautiful.

OOlive GohWhen I started planning our itinerary for our 15 day Yunnan holiday, I plotted out our path to go all the way up to Shangri-la, back down to Kunming and then to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land. Then I chanced upon a video of Aini Garden and fell in love! The only reason we came to Pu'er was to get to Aini. This was the first place I booked, and I really took a chance because it has a no cancellation policy and I really had to stick to the date once it was made. The initial pre-arrival experience was less than pleasant. I didn't know how we were going to get to the manor and my WeChat messages went unanswered. The hotel we stayed at in Pu'er finally got in touch with someone and got them to message me. I asked how we could get there and the answer was a curt ”take a taxi or charter a car”. No pleasantries of ”we look forward to seeing you” or offering to arrange a car. When we arrived, no one was at reception and no one came out. Our driver was so perplexed he wondered if we were in the right place and if the place was open. Finally a young girl came out and registered us in. There was an air of aloofness from everyone else. However, once we were checked in, things warmed up quickly. We were offered coffee and freshly cut papaya and had a nice introduction chat with the lady staff. The bedroom and bathroom is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We would have enjoyed sitting on the balcony if the chairs were more comfortable. I love the floor to ceiling glass windows but the panel above the door should also be glass (it is just netting) so traffic sounds from the road actually comes through at night. I actually wanted to book the cottage in the hills but opted for the standard room in the main house because I was worried it would be cold. Big regret as it is actually magnificently located with stunning views. However take note that you will need to call for a buggy ride or make a 1km hike every time you want to eat or get to the main house. If you are self driving, no issues as you can park right next to the cottage. Anyway it's a small price to pay for an unlimited view of the milky way and seclusion. This is as close to a Ryokan experience as you can get in China, minus the hot springs. 3 days 2 nights of blissful, carefree living is not quite enough. They make sure they feed you well, with the freshest produce available for hotpot dinner and home-cooked Yunnanese dishes for lunch. There are so many activities organised, from taking you up the mountain for a glimpse of sunrise (with mountain goats for company ❤️) to coffee plantation education tour to horseback riding along the mountain ridges (the view is spectacular!) to scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits to drinking, dancing and singing around the campfire! So much to do, so little time! One area of improvement I personally would like to see is the coffee serving. They tend to be quite snobbish about how their coffee is taken. Neat, with nothing else. Asking for sugar or milk feels nearly scorned upon. Coffee is a versatile drink and can be savoured in a huge variety of ways. How else is Starbucks so successful? I felt kind of stifled and deprived because I love a good latte and had looked forward to enjoying an unlimited indulgence of coffee throughout our stay. Anyhow, I love the ecotourism efforts here. It feels natural and unpretentious. I love the people and the camaraderie they cultivate. I especially enjoyed talking to their consultant 敬梅, a beautiful lady with extensive knowledge in Yunnan culture and ecological progress. Also thank you to 徐芳 for arranging transport back to town and giving helpful recommendations. We hope to return again.

AAnqiFacilities: The facilities are relatively new and clean, and there is really no smell of cigarettes. Hot water came quickly. Hygiene: Very clean, including the sofa and bed flags in the room, the bathroom is also equipped with a disposable toilet. Breakfast: There are two breakfasts, with local red rice noodles, as well as Western milk bread and cakes. Children under 120 are free. Praise: I would like to thank the lady at the front desk of the hotel very much. Because I left in a hurry, I forgot to collect the child's teddy bear doll from the quilt when I left. That was my child's Abebei. As mothers know, although it looks like a discarded short-legged teddy bear doll, it is really important to my child. I found it more than 12 hours after leaving the hotel and called the front desk to look for it. When they heard that it was so important to us, they did not perfunctorily deal with it, but kept looking for the cleaning lady and the brother in charge of linens. After three days of non-stop searching, they finally found it in the factory of the linen cleaning company and delivered it back to the lady at the front desk of the hotel in time. After adding WeChat for confirmation, they handed it to the SF Express courier to send it back to us. The child was really happy when she saw her teddy bear was found. We had almost no hope, they were really caring and made our family feel very warm. Recommended to everyone, this is a very warm hotel! I will bring my children and family to stay in this hotel in the future! Thank you!

VVeraForeign friends: don't stay here. The worst experience I've ever had trying to check in - and I've travelled to many remote places in Yunnan over the past six years. Staff has no clue about rules and regulations, even though I showed them the most up to date rules for foreigners travelling in China. They tried to stop me from leaving the hotel because they couldn't figure out how to check me in, even though I was very hungry and tired and wanted to eat and go to bed early. They came to my room at 10pm but still couldn't figure out how to check me in. And here is the worst: at 8am the manager opened the door of my room and walked in without knocking. There was no inside lock or chain. Luckily I wasn't in the shower. Awful place that made me feel extremely unwelcome as a foreigner. They made me feel like a criminal because of their incompetence and stupid actions. Very different from most places where staff is helpful even if it's a bit more complicated.

DDionne94All the reviews are true, but it’s not the wooden building that causes it.  Yes, it is very loud and you hear everyone. We’ve stayed in other fully wooden places, it’s worse here. Maybe not the wood but the guests are the problem. Loud Chinese people, walking the stairs with the heaviest pace you can imagine. Maybe help the other guests by hanging some warnings on the stairs: please be mindful for the other guests when walking to your room.  Also loud Chinese tourist on the square below. Not only while eating they scream all over the place, also with the tea ceremony nobody asks them to please stop talking after 23:00/24:00. We were up till 02:00AM because of tea drinking Chinese people at the fire. We stayed in the suite, which is located above the fire pit. Maybe the other rooms are less noisy. At 7AM each morning, somebody ran down the stairs. We think it’s the staff. It wakes you up through your earplugs.  The staff is OK. They are very shy, not rude. They could be more pro active though as we didn’t feel like they wanted to do something.. which is different to rude but also not very friendly.  The other villages around are way bigger and less cozy than Wengji. Also, with this guesthouse being just next to the town, it was perfect to escape the tourists most of the time. We didn’t find other accommodations in Wengji with the same aesthetics as Shishi guesthouse so we can’t recommend other places better than this. Maybe if the guesthouse would invest in trying to keep the noise down under the various guests, with text signs or with clearer house rules (fire pit), the noise problem wouldn’t be as bad.  Maybe if they tried to enthusiast their staff more and keep them from watching Chinese drama shows on their phones all day, they would be a bit more welcoming.  We’ve met a lot of amazing people in Wengji, it’s definitely not the locals that have this behaviour.  Lastly, the suite has a cubicle bathroom in the room, they really don’t clean this well. It smells very bad and just feels dirty all over.  For comfort this place is too expensive, for the location and aesthetics you won’t find better options nearby.

JJonasWe (2 German travellers) have been in the area of Jingmaishan and wanted to stay a night somewhere. The hotel is about 2 km away from Wengji Ancient Village, that means 30 mins by foot. At first, we wabted to book our hotel directly in the village, but it turns out that booking Diwanara hotel was the best thing that could have happened. The host, who grew up there and is member of the Lahu-Minority is so warm-hearted, he sits in front of his house drinking tea the whole day and we would never leave or come back without being invited to drink some of his homemade tea. He has tea fields 10 mins away from his hotel, and he even took us there to teach us how to collect the tea. Also he cooks breakfast for his guests, which is just delicious. For everybody who, besides the quite commercialised Wengji Village, also wants to have an authentic experience, we can warmly recommend Diwanara hotel.
