Chongqing is known for its skyline that seems to defy gravity, riverside stilt houses and a metro system that runs through apartment buildings. So getting around Chongqing takes more than a quick look, at your phone. Below you will find Chongqing maps covering all info you need.
Where Is Chongqing: Chongqing Location Map
Source: wikimedia
Chongqing is one of Chinas four administered municipalities. These include Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. Chongqing is located in the south-west of the country. It is 1,400 km from Singapore. On a map of China, Chongqing is near the top of the Yangtze River. That is where the Yangtze River meets the Jialing River. The place where the two rivers meet is called the Yuzhong Peninsula.
Because the city is built on hills and deep valleys, people call it the "Mountain City." Buildings are stacked on top of each other. Streets go over the tops of streets. A lift that takes you down three floors might actually be taking you up. This is why a good map of Chongqing is more important than in a city that's flat. The ground floor of one building can be the floor of another building next to it.
Chongqing Transportation Map
Getting to Chongqing from Singapore is easy. The city has an well-connected metro system. You can get around without trouble.
By Flight
Singapore → Chongqing: ~3,900 km, ~5-hour direct flight (Singapore Airlines operates a daily non-stop service; Chongqing Airlines also flies the route, taking roughly 4.5–5 hours).
Flights land at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) in Yubei District, north-east of the city centre. From the terminal:
CKG → Jiefangbei (city centre): ~24 km, about 40–50 minutes by metro (Line 10, changing to Line 6) or ~30–40 minutes by taxi.
CKG → Chongqing North Railway Station: ~20 km, about 35 minutes on Metro Line 10.
Chongqing North Railway Station, also called 重庆北站, is the busiest high‑speed rail hub in the north of Chongqing. From Chongqing North Railway Station you can travel to Chengdu in 1-1.5 hours and you can travel north to Xi'an and Beijing.
Chongqing West Railway Station, known as 重庆西站, is a high‑speed station located in the south‑west of Chongqing. Trains from Chongqing West Railway Station head toward Guiyang and Guangzhou.
Shapingba Railway Station, called 沙坪坝站, is a central station in Chongqing. From Shapingba Railway Station you can reach Ciqikou and the Red Rock Village sites easily.
From any of these stations, the metro connects you to the rest of the city in 15–30 minutes.

Look closely at a Chongqing city map. You will notice the layout is split by the two rivers. The city core sits on the Yuzhong Peninsula squeezed between the Yangtze to the south and the Jialing to the north. Across the Jialing is Jiangbeizui, the financial district; across the Yangtze is Nan'an, best known for the riverside Nanbin Road.
The metro is the way to move around with tickets priced by distance from, about CNY 2 to CNY 8 (roughly S$0.40–1.55).
Three lines matter most for visitors:
Line 1 runs through the city core serving Jiefangbei, Xiaoshizi, Hongya Cave, and extends out to Ciqikou.
Line 2 is the elevated monorail that hugs the Jialing River. Ride Line 2 for the train through a building" moment at Liziba Station and for easy access to Eling Park.
Line 6 connects Xiaoshizi, Hongya Cave and crosses the river to the Lijiatuo and Jiangbeizui area.
A key thing to remember when looking at any Chongqing map: the hills and slopes make distances tricky. Two metro stations that seem close on paper might actually take a time to walk between. For example, Liziba and Eling Park are connected by steps and climbs. You’ll need to plan time. Don’t trust the map’s look alone. Chongqing isn’t flat and walking here is effort than in flatter cities.

Chongqing Day-Trip Sights Map
For a longer stay, two UNESCO-listed sites are the most rewarding day trips:
Dazu Rock Carvings (大足石刻): ~90 km north-west of the city, around 1.5–2 hours by road or train. The Baodingshan and Beishan carvings are among China's finest Buddhist cliff sculptures. Combined admission is roughly CNY 130 (about S$25).
Wulong Karst (武隆喀斯特): ~170 km south-east, about 2.5–3 hours away. The Three Natural Bridges (天生三桥), a dramatic set of limestone arches made famous by a blockbuster film, are the headline sight. Admission including the transfer bus and lift is CNY 155 (about S$30), and the whole trip takes a full day.

A Chongqing hotel map helps you choose a base that matches how you plan to see the city. Most travellers focus on two areas:
1. Jiefangbei / Yuzhong Peninsula
Best for: first-time visitors, night views and walkability.
Proximity: Hongya Cave, Qiansimen Bridge and the cableway are all within walking distance, with strong metro links.
Drawback: it is the busiest area in the city, and hotels facing the rivers carry a premium.
2. Jiangbeizui / Nanbin Road
Best for: travellers who want a quieter stay with skyline views across the water.
Proximity: a short metro or taxi ride to the city core, with plenty of riverside restaurants.
Benefit: calmer streets, more space for the price, and excellent photo angles of Hongya Cave from across the river.
👉 Pro Tip: If you want to maximise sightseeing time, choose your Chongqing hotels carefully. Where you stay in Chongqing really matters. Book near a metro station, because the city's hills make walking long distances tiring.

Exploring Chongqing without a map can be confusing because the city has streets that go up and down and it is built around two rivers. Looking at the houses that sit on pillars in Hongya Cave, then taking the train that goes high above the city at Liziba and seeing the special rock formations in Wulong. All of these places are easier to visit when you have a good map.
Google Maps has limited coverage in China due to restrictions. Use Amap (Gaode), Baidu Maps, or Apple Maps instead, and download offline map data before you arrive to navigate easily.
Are maps available at Chongqing's main sights?
Yes. Official maps and signage are provided at the major sights and metro stations, including Hongya Cave, the cableway terminals and Ciqikou. They are free and updated regularly.
Are English maps available in Chongqing?
Yes. The metro system has bilingual English–Chinese signs at every station, and major sights provide English–Chinese maps, so getting around without Chinese is manageable.
