Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit Chengdu. The city awakens from winter with blooming cherry blossoms and warmer temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F). The air is fresh, and the parks are filled with vibrant colours, making it the perfect time for sightseeing and outdoor adventures.

• Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding while the pandas are most active.
• Stroll through People's Park and sip a cup of tea at a local teahouse.

Summer (June - August): Hot, humid & spicy

Summer in Chengdu can be challenging due to high humidity and temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F). Frequent rain showers provide relief, but the heat can be intense, making it a great time to enjoy indoor attractions and cool mountain getaways.

However, I'd strongly recommend avoiding China's Golden Week holiday from 1-7 October because those are extremely busy period.

Travel Tips for Your Chengdu Trip

If you're planning a trip to Chengdu, here are some practical tips I personally think will make your trip much smoother especially if it's your first time visiting western China.

Chengdu is honestly one of the most relaxed cities I've visited in China, but there are few things worth knowing before you go.

1. Don't Pack Too Many Tight Clothes

Chengdu food is amazing but also very oily and spicy. Hotpot. skewers, noodles are everywhere so you'll probably eat more that expected. Comfortable clothing is way to go.

2. Download Local Apps Before Arriving

A few apps that I set it up before flying made my trip much easier:

• Alipay for payments
• WeChat for messaging and mini programs
• DiDi for taxis around Chengdu
• Baidu Maps or Amap because Google Maps can be unreliable in China

3. Chengdu Is More Cashless Than You Think

Most places prefer mobile payments, even small snack or stalls or local tea shops. Bring some cash for emergency issues.

4. Stay Near a Metro Station

Staying near metro station makes a huge difference, especially if you plan to visit multiple attractions in a day.

Areas around Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square and Taikoo Li are usually very convenient for tourist.

5. Expect Slower and More Relaxed Vibes

Compared to cities like Shanghai or Shenzhen, Chengdu feels much slower and more laid-back. I actually enjoyed this city as it doesn't feel overly rushed.

Don't over-plan every hour in Chengdu. No matter when you visit Chengdu, you’ll find incredible food, rich culture, and a city that embraces a slow and enjoyable pace of life!
