The St Ives Bay Hotel

Ground floor room with shower, compact one small wardrobe, no kng size bed which nowadays are pretty well standard, my bedside table collapse, cheap self assembly. The Hotel as steps at entrance and steps inside to bar and dining room. Rather small lift to other floors. Breakfast self service for hot & cold food, down steps to dining room, meals average neither good or bad. We think they are packing too many Coach Tours at one time, causing meal times to be variable and not consistent.

I booked a private function room for a school reunion, along with a buffet supper. The room was more than large enough, and pleasantly decorated, with a view of the sea. The table had been prepared despite our having a buffet as opposed to a ‘sit-down’ meal. The food was very good value for money. Tea and coffee were included, and top-ups were available. The staff could not have been more helpful, from my initial phone call, to finding a selection of different tea bags! Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We were not hurried to leave, and additional teas/coffee were made available late into the evening (plus more of the lovely shortbread!) Overall, this was a very pleasant experience, and very good value for money. The helpfulness of the staff was the icing on the cake.

Room was very clean but staircase is very steep without a handrail., (it is a very old pub/cottage). The pain au chocolate was out of date. We did take this back to the lady behind the bar but it was not replaced. The room was not en-suite but there was a lovely large toilet/bathroom opposite the bedroom which we were told was for our private use. Shower gels, body lotions were provided which was nice. To sum up, I think it should be clear that they don't do a full english breakfast, & that it may be unsuitable for people with difficulty climbing stairs.

Outstanding hotel. From start to finish. Staff were friendly and welcoming which after a long journey is the most important. The room was cleaned and well equipped to support your stay. They also supported us when our clothes were wet from the previous day. Food was a highlight here too. Everything was delicious. I’d recommend a visit here. It’s a must as it’s close to Penzance but quiet at the same time. You’ll need a car to drive here.

This hotel is bang in the centre of Newquay, the zoo and park is only a 10-15 minute walk away. and the town just a few minutes out of the front door. A very useful Tesco express is across the road from the hotel-for your morning Costa before the buffet opens. When you walk into this hotel, you can just see how grand it is, the foyer and reception areas are particularly impressive. The reception, housekeeping and breakfast/waiting staff that we met were all friendly and happy to help. The breakfast itself was adequate, there was a good selection-everything that I expected to see. We were upgraded to a seaview room, which was a lovely surprise and the view was fantastic. Unfortunately this is where the good points end.....now for the bad points; Parking-this is not mentioned in the write up for the hotel, but this is not guaranteed at this hotel (even after you have paid the £5 fee for all the days you are staying there) and the hotel carpark is not just for guests. We weren't told about the 'overflow' carpark until we complained that we had nowhere to park, and to be honest, its not the best situation-the overflow carpark is behind the nightclub attached to the hotel, not lit at night. The other thing to mention about the parking is that it was quite frustrating to see (as we were struggling to find a space as a paying guest) that the staff seem to have priority in the spaces at the front of the hotel and workmen's vans were parked around the back-leaving very few for their guests. The lift! This DOES NOT WORK-we were told it was only available to take luggage (and cleaning carts)-this IS a problem...and not one that they seem to be addressing (reviews from many months ago have also mentioned this problem). We were on the 3rd floor and there are many many stairs to climb to get there-I'm not unfit, but this was quite a pain for me...We passed disabled people having to climb the same amount of stairs too, I do wonder if they were informed of the lift being broken before they checked in-I'm guessing not. The bathroon-I'm not a snob, and not particularly picky-but what I don't like is grot! The bathroom in our room was just grot, I'm afraid to say-so much so that I tried to avoid having a shower in there-I attempted to take my shower stuff down to the pool changing rooms to get a nicer shower (more on that in a moment)-the grout is filthy, the soap dish is just pure rust-I mean how would that not have been flagged and replaced.... The pool area-well...when I said grot for the bathroom in the room-the pool area and changing rooms were on another level of grot and filth....uuurgh, just uuurgh is all I can really say about it... The 'jacuzzi', a little bit like the lift, is STILL not working, same goes for the sauna....These are things that should be updated on the website in my opinion-it has been that long since there were operational that I don't think the hotel can really advertise these 'features' anymore. My other gripe is that there is NO recy

We visited for a long weekend recently and overall had a lovely weekend. The hotel is accessed via a small road and when the building comes into sight it looks like something from an Agatha Christie novel! Very art deco looking with beautiful gardens. We had a room with a small patio, we were advised to enter via the patio doors. When we looked outside the main door however we realised why! Maybe it was mid decoration but the carpet had been taken up and it was very shabby. I accept it may have just about to have been decorated but it just looked a bit bad. Our room was clean and comfortable but very dated and in desperate need of an overhaul. The bathroom showed signs of damage and age (cracked tiles, very rusty and broken bath handle, cracked mirror tiles) the shower definitely needed replacing, the tiles were damaged, there was mould within the silicone seal around the shower tray and the water pressure was no more than a trickle. Having said that the beds were clean and comfortable and the room contained tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. The food at the hotel was pleasant, buffet breakfast with all the usual items, eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes and toast as well as a selection of cereals and yoghurt, plus tea and coffee and fruit juice. We ate once in the evening and again the food was very nice and freshly cooked. And now saving the best till last, the staff are amazing. They worked such long hours, the same staff were at breakfast and the evening meal and back again the following morning for breakfast. They were all friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Overall we had a lovely stay and enjoyed visiting the beautiful surroundings, Penmere Manor is a beautiful place and if given the tlc it desperately needs, will no doubt be stunning once again.

I would give five stars but for one thing which I'll come too. This is a great stop over for when travelling long journeys to reach this area of Cornwall. I visited family for one day and rather than driving back home stayed a night here. Room was big, clean and quiet. Bathroom was spotless and I had a great night sleep. The staff from check in to check out were wonderful and helpful. I had dinner and it was good and delivered hot. I also had breakfast. But both dinner and breakfast although good, didn't have quite what you get offered when staying at Premier Inn's. However, the biggest issue for me is the fact you have to pay to park. This should be waived. I mean how else are you supposed to get there. It may not be the hotel charging but it's pure greed.

A lovely hotel. Food good, decor internally excellent., staff friendly and courteous. I stayed in a single room and from past experience when often the room is little more than a broom cupboard I was more than happy. Will come again……with my dog. Sorry about your toaster!!!!

My first thought when we arrived was ”hell no” but we already paid and couldn't back down, it was a bit awkward to go in a pub while people were there enjoying their pint and they all stop and look at you when you get your key to go in the room but surprisingly good the room was spacious, clean and very modern, a large toilet room with a nice shower and a Nespresso coffee machine, the only downside was the live music on Friday evening as we were tired and wanted to sleep but had to wait for them to finish which was around midnight but overall very impressed, well done, I won't be booking again cause I am not a big fan of pubs but definitely recommend the place to someone relaxed who enjoys beer and music ( the music was amazing too )
