"This is the perfect place to stay when visiting Valparaiso. Located in the best neighbourhood (in my opinion) in the city and well priced. Perfect walking distance to great restaurants, cafes and shops. The staff is excellent and exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were spacious with a perfect view of the harbour and very clean. They have a car to drive you to and from your restaurant (if available) if it's close by, which is helpful if you don't wish to climb some of the steep hills in the area. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first evening, on the outdoor patio. The food was delicious, as well as the local wine selection, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was included in the morning with a nice selection of simple a la carte items or eggs prepared as you like. Only note, the coffee could be improved. The pool was a bonus overlooking the harbour. Overall terrific!!"

"Wonderful welcome from the proprietor, who gave us a great orientation to Valparaiso and couldn’t do too much for us and recommended excellent restaurante. Location was fantastic within walking distance of everything but in a safe part of town. The breakfast was delicious and our room spacious and with a wonderful view. The only challenge was we didn’t get much sleep as there was no air conditioning so we kept the windows open which meant we were awakened by the dogs of Valparaiso who bark regularaly throughout the night."

"This is a large, 5 bedroomed guest house that will take some beating. It has been tastefully renovated by the owner in a traditional style. The beds are old fashioned wooden head and footboarded and very comfortable. The owner took great pains to welcome us with recommendations about the best places to visit in the city and good restaurants. breakfast was lovely and the staff could not have been nicer with a bonus of reasonably good english. If I ever return to Valperaiso, this is where I will head to"

"Great location (Cerro Alegre), wonderful vibe, very bohemian. Staff was superb and extremely attentive. Great homemade breakfast included in the stay. Great views from the 3rd-floor balcony. Some pant and freshening up and it's a 5! (Actually, our stay was more like a 4.5)"

Palacio Astoreca

"This is such a beautiful boutique hotel - stylish rooms in an old red and white building that has been overlooking Valparaiso Bay for 100 years... Whereas our superior room "only" had a view of the opposite hill with its colourful houses we still had full sea view from the wonderful terrace. The room on the first floor was nicely decorated (I loved the green ornamental wall paper) and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom was not that spacious but the shower worked fine. On our first morning a rich breakfast buffet had been set up in the elegant basement room, on the second morning with fewer guests a full breakfast was served at the table in the impressive lounge. Regrettably dinner had not been available. The staff - whether reception desk, breakfast or housekeeping team - were all pleasant. I actually regret a bit not having found the time to spend a few lazy hours in the relaxing hotel atmosphere... Be prepared to have your rental car parked in a garage in the neighbourhood as on-street parking is strongly advised against. Besides driving in Valparaiso is not necessary since the hotel is only a few steps away from El Peral Ascensor. As for dinner various restaurants are at walkable distance from the hotel."

"Centrally located in the tourist zone, easy walking distance to a multitude of sites, one of 20 + funiculars,restaurants and shops. Fabulous breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. The owner provided transport to the Santiago airport at the conclusion of our stay. Funky older establishment with lots of stairs and no elevators."
