Hilton Garden Inn Kota Kinabalu Tuaran ★★★★

📍 1 Jalan Indai Mimpian Jadi, Tuaran

"staff very friendly, our room quite far from the restaurant but it's ok as i like walking. just that old people in wheelchair maybe need the buggy but sometimes not available. the for me just so and so...should have ala carte choices apart from buffet."

📍 Pantai Dalit, Tuaran

"The room was quite spacious, with a sofa bed, making a total of three beds. It was more than enough space for a family with children. The breakfast was plentiful. We really enjoyed playing ball in the pool. It's a great spot, complete with Komodo dragons and beautiful beach sunsets. A truly nice place."

📍 Lot No 10, Block 4 Jalan Teo Teck Ong, Tuaran

"It's a gamble. Some of the rooms are big, recently (?) renovated, working AC, etc. Some of the rooms are alright. Some of the rooms are... tough. I stayed with family (large group split among several rooms) and I got stuck with the single room that was in rough shape. The AC broke, there was no wifi, you could hear everything, it was dark and dingy with what was most certainly mold all over the walls, and there was definitely a smell. I was scared of the bedding and pillows so I put my airplane clothes down. With the AC down it got pretty musty and humid - but even when the AC was working it was loud and could not be adjusted. There was also supposed to be a "bolt" on the inside of the door but it was a flimsy little thing so each night I just crossed my fingers that nobody would try to come in. When I went to meet up with my parents in their room on another floor it was like we were staying in two different hotels, one being an extremely sketchy and run-down motel and the other being a (still cheap) hotel that had tons of space in the room and functioning amenities (for the most part). We were only there for maybe 2 nights so it wasn't the end of the world but imagine traveling 20+ hours and then opening the door to settle down in... that. My parents had to ask the front desk for toilet paper and the wifi and the front desk simply said, "oh, you're supposed to have those things. We'll just give you a discount on the price instead" so we had to buy TP from a nearby store. So - if you are to book a stay here, see if you can get one of the larger rooms on a higher floor. PROS: it is in the middle of downtown Tuaran. A Watson's right next door if I remember correctly. Just around the corner (..err, sort of) was a little breakfast place/restaurant that we went to. Also, it was dirt cheap apparently. And we needed some place to stay in Tuaran, so it was better than nothing."

Hilton Garden Inn Kota Kinabalu Tuaran ★★★★
"Overall, the stay was great. The place was nice, the view was beautiful, and it was worth the money. However, the food was disappointing. It was expensive, not very tasty, and not worth the price. The presentation of the food could also be improved. I hope they can improve the food quality in the future."

Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu ★★★★★
"The hotel's location is a bit out of the way, a little far from the city center. However, our main purpose this trip was a vacation, and the hotel offers everything from a beach and sea view to various entertainment options like ping-pong and board games. It was very comfortable for just relaxing. I especially want to praise the hotel's homemade mosquito repellent; it was very effective and readily available for guests to use. If you want to be more involved, many hotel activities can be booked through their WeChat service account. Any issues during your stay can also be sent to the service account, and they handle Chinese queries (though simple English is still needed for daily hotel services). This is excellent, and they respond very promptly. For breakfast, there are two restaurants, Forest and Ocean. I recommend going to Ocean every day; it's less crowded, there's rarely a queue, it's not sunny, and no birds come looking for food. I also recommend the Ocean pool for swimming, but for board games, billiards, and ping-pong, I suggest the Forest game area, as there's a wider selection and it's more centralized. Grab taxis and food delivery work fine, though deliveries can only be brought to the lobby. Overall, as long as you're not constantly visiting various tourist attractions, the vacation experience here is excellent."
