Considering the sheer crowds at major attractions across the country during the May 1st holiday, we decided to take it easy in Shanghai. We chose the InterContinental National Exhibition and Convention Center as our base for two days of dining and entertainment, largely because its holiday rates were surprisingly affordable (unlike other hotels, this InterContinental tends to be incredibly cheap during holidays!). Compared to the bustling crowds during exhibition periods, this InterContinental offered a welcome tranquility. Like all InterContinentals, the lobby was grand and impressive, and the service was exactly what you'd expect from the brand. The room was clean and well-arranged. The breakfast buffet was upscale, and the dinner was a lobster-themed buffet – absolutely delicious! For lunch, we drove to Hongqiao Tiandi, which felt very convenient!

The InterContinental Jing'an is like a 'safe haven' for family trips – hassle-free, comfortable, and just right. I especially want to commend Chime; his smile is as warm as sunshine. When my child was a bit fussy during check-in, he immediately brought over a small toy to entertain them, and even proactively helped us take our luggage to the room and adjusted the AC temperature. Every time we saw him afterward, he'd remember to ask, 'Did the little one have fun today?', which felt so thoughtful and genuine. You need a key card to access the guest floors, which made us feel very secure. The beds were neither too soft nor too hard, perfect for both adults and children to sleep well. No frills, just a place that makes you want to come back. I love it here, and I especially love the warmth of people like Chime.

I'm currently abroad for work and couldn't be there to celebrate with her, so I remotely booked a room night plus a double dinner deal at this hotel. I wanted them to experience a local staycation, and the entire process exceeded my expectations in a delightful way!
Service: Due to the time difference, and being worried my parents might encounter issues during check-in, I contacted the sales representative, Jennie, in advance. She was incredibly patient and meticulous throughout, answering all my questions, often even on weekend evenings. We had to adjust the check-in date and dinner choice, and she helped communicate everything immediately and seamlessly. A huge shoutout and thank you to Jennie here!
My parents mentioned that the staff in other departments, from the front desk to the restaurant, were all polite and professional, especially friendly towards older guests. Check-in was smooth, and since it wasn't busy, they even got a slightly extended check-out time.
Ambiance: My parents loved it! The room was spacious and comfortable, and fortunately, they were upgraded to a river view, which made it even more open and expansive.
Dining: In the end, my parents chose the Western buffet. They enjoyed an amazing variety of seafood – they ate so much they 'had to be wheeled in and out' (a playful way of saying they ate until they were stuffed!) even at 70 years old 😂.
The surrounding scenery is also beautiful, perfect for a leisurely stroll after dinner.
When I used to work in Shanghai, I'd occasionally come here for international conferences, so it's suitable for various scenarios and different types of guests.

Facilities: The hotel's facilities are incredibly modern and user-friendly, greatly enhancing my experience. The Bluetooth speaker is a standout – unlike any other hotel, you don't have to pay to listen to music. The bathtub fills up quickly, and the moment you enter, there's a lovely sense of ceremony, with wine and fruit adding a romantic touch; the little fish were like something out of a fairytale. Having three restrooms and two refrigerators was perfect for me, as I'm a foodie who loves to stock up. The toiletries suited my sensitive skin, and the hairdryer was just like the one I have at home. Overall, it felt like my own home, very relaxing.
Cleanliness: The hotel's cleaning was efficient and well-organized, putting my mind at ease. I could walk barefoot in the room without finding any stains, and the balcony was spotless.
Environment: The hotel lobby and restaurant were elegantly comfortable, like a tranquil haven. The sophisticated decor made me feel right at home. The hotel's unique pit design and the double balconies in the room provided a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Surrounded by flowerbeds and lush greenery, it felt like being in a garden. The interior decoration was luxurious and refined, exuding an air of quality throughout.
Service:
My butler, Bruce, took meticulous care of me from the moment I arrived until I left. Every detail was handled perfectly, truly impeccable. He anticipated my needs, and his smile was incredibly comforting and warm. His professionalism and service attitude were outstanding. At the Mother's Day breakfast, there was also a young man with glasses in the restaurant who took a photo with my mother. Throughout the service, I felt immense sincerity and professionalism. He proved what it means to truly maximize customer emotional and spiritual value.
The hotel's Yiqi Travel Photography team, including the photographer and travel partners, did an amazing job with something seemingly simple. Their professional team, meeting every need, was truly impressive ✌️. Making my mom happy on Mother's Day was the top priority, and their dedication was off the charts. The staff's attitude and efficiency were both excellent.
We also had a national-level flyboarding coach at the hotel. Every step was meticulously cared for. The coach was incredibly professional, giving detailed guidance on every move to me, a non-swimmer, allowing me to quickly master the techniques.

Completely charmed by this old-school hotel!
Came for a staycation to celebrate our anniversary, and Olive at the front desk was amazing! She helped us with an upgrade and even arranged some decorations. The emotional value was off the charts! Huge thanks to her! 😊
Although the InterContinental Tomson is a bit older, it has a unique charm. The faint classical music in the hallways is so relaxing – perhaps that's the allure of an old-school hotel!
And this open-plan suite is just beautiful! 🤩 My friend hilariously commented: ”It feels like the kind of place a former Greater China CEO would stay on a business trip.” It was a very comfortable stay overall. The purple sofa is particularly lovely, and I also adored the bathtub and the surprisingly cool rotating TV.
My only complaint was the scent of the toiletries, especially the hand soap which had a strange, lingering fragrance. 😓
An incredibly satisfying experience! I've often come here for the buffet before, and this time I decided to try an executive room. At check-in, the front desk upgraded me to a presidential suite (it was a loft with only skylights, but very spacious) and allowed for an early check-in.
Executive Perks: It's rare to encounter so many staff members with genuine personality. Especially all the ladies working the morning shift today (May 5th) in the Executive Lounge – they interacted with the kids so charmingly. I didn't catch everyone's name, but there was an Amy. Thank you all! The lounge's breakfast and dinner are basically the best value for money at this price point in the country.
During the May Day holiday, there was also a wagashi making workshop, and the pastry chef from Xinyuan Restaurant taught us really well.
Environment: Absolutely loved it! When we checked in, the security guard who drove the shuttle told us there were 17 cats, who had just been spayed. The lawns were full of weddings, creating a wonderful atmosphere! The heated pool in the gym was perfectly warm and very comfortable.
Facilities: This was the only minor drawback. I understand that many things are difficult to update, but for executive suites, things like hair dryers could definitely be upgraded to Dyson, for example.
I'll definitely be back!
I took advantage of the weekend to unwind in Shanghai's Lingang area and finally stayed at the highly anticipated InterContinental Shanghai Dishui Lake. The overall experience far exceeded my expectations, truly making it a 'hidden gem' for a getaway near Shanghai!
Stunning Location and Design
The hotel uniquely occupies the southern island of Dishui Lake. From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by its distinctive design. The entire building resembles a peach blossom blooming on the lake. The nearly 20-meter high, sun-drenched dome is bright and airy, perfectly blending elements of the ocean and the lake, as if I'd instantly traveled to a 'Shangri-La' far from the city's hustle and bustle.
Comfortable and Cozy Rooms
The deluxe lake-view room I stayed in was very spacious with a well-thought-out layout. The most pleasant surprise was the enormous scenic balcony, offering panoramic views of Dishui Lake's picturesque scenery right from the bed. The in-room amenities were top-notch, with soft and comfortable bedding. The bathroom featured a wet/dry separation and was equipped with high-quality toiletries and a capsule coffee machine, showcasing luxury and thoughtfulness in every detail.
