"Hotel Jagdhaus Wiese is located high on a hill; You can take beautiful walks around the hotel, everything is well signposted. The hotel has a very nice swimming pool, jacuzzi, 2 saunas and a steam cabin. A rest area with lovely sunbeds and free tea and coffee. Everything super clean and cared for. The hotel has recently been tastefully modernized. The food is very good and the employees are very friendly. They do everything to make you happy. The atmosphere is pleasant, especially because it is not whipped up; top quality is common here."

Berghotel Hoher Knochen

Berghotel Hoher Knochen

📍 Hoher Knochen 1, Schmallenberg
★★★★ 8.3 (32 reviews)

"The Berghotel Hoher Knochen enjoys a prominent location on the Hoher Knochen mountain, offering excellent hiking opportunities and magnificent views of the Hochsauerland region. However, the stairs leading to the hotel entrance are insufficiently cleared in snowy weather. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, but some have windows that don't close. Furthermore, the soap dispensers in some bathrooms and some showers in the pool are empty. Even upon explicit request, the rooms are not cleaned or are cleaned very rarely, and the beds are not made, due to a lack of staff. The buckles on the provided bathrobes are all torn. Worn carpets can be found in the dining room and many other parts of the building. The three-course dinner does not correspond to a four-star hotel, neither in terms of selection nor in terms of quality ("commercial kitchen level"). The breakfast buffet has the problem that, due to a lack of staff, rolls, sausage, and cheese are not replenished or are replenished late. For four days in mid-November, there was no butter available, or only salted butter. Although the entire staff is friendly and helpful, the Berghotel Hoher Knochen is only a 3-star hotel by objective standards."

Hotel Deimann

📍 Alte Handelsstraße 5, Schmallenberg

"We stayed in this hotel for four days and had a very positive experience. Room, food, wellness area and treatments were excellent. For the next time we will ask before reserving if there is a free table in the Michelin starred restaurant. As a beer lover there is a couple of points I regret; they still tap in the out-dated way of 7 minutes Pils,by the time you get it the temperature has risen and the freshness has gone. The wine-card is great ,but a few belgian speciality beers would be welcomed by beer lovers as well"

"Great stay in beautiful German town with lots of fun things do do in the surroundings. Dinner food could have been a little lighter but it is real German. Our teenage kids had fun too walking, biking, archery, and downhill carts. Highly recommend : )"

"Super sweet hotel, lovely team and great surroundings. We had such a nice 2-day stay, enjoyed the lovely food, had fun driving through the beautiful nature in a covered wagon and did a super nice guided morning walk through the pretty town."

Hotel Jagdhaus Wiese ★★★★
"During our stay at Hotel Jagdhaus Wiese, we had a very positive experience. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome, and it was great that we could go straight to our room. The room itself was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. Although it was a bit warm, the fresh air through an open window made sure this wasn't a problem. The only downside was a slight noise level, but it wasn't bothersome. The food at the hotel was of excellent quality. The menu could perhaps have been a bit more extensive or varied, but what was served was of a high standard. Breakfast also met all expectations and was well-prepared. The hotel facilities were also good. The swimming pool is large and suitable for all ages, which is a big plus. Furthermore, the location is beautiful: the hotel is situated in a beautiful area, and other villages are easily accessible by car. In short, a lovely place to stay with a good balance of hospitality, quality, and comfort. Highly recommended!"

Berghotel Hoher Knochen ★★★★
"We wanted to start 2025 with a stay at the mountain hotel we already knew from previous visits. So we arrived on the afternoon of January 1st. The weather was so-so, no snow, but that would change the next day. We had reserved our favorite room, No. 89 in the Rothaarblick house, quite early in the fall. The welcome at reception was very friendly. We stayed there for about five days and once again felt very comfortable. The personal service from the owner family is simply fantastic, and then there's the skilled and mischievous demeanor of the head waiter, Niki, who is always up for a laugh. After these days at the mountain hotel, there are only positive things to report. The friendliness of the owner and the entire hotel team, and the wonderful cuisine that we were able to enjoy every evening as part of the half-board package. The only negative thing after returning from these relaxing days was looking at the scales in the bathroom, which clearly showed our sins. Well, then we ate a few days of minimal food at home, and then everything was back to normal. We'd love to come back. Thank you, Mr. Kevekordes, for these wonderful days! bdzons"

"If you have lots of money and lots of time this may be an excellent hotel choice. It is set in wooded mountains in a beautiful parkland setting. If you like walking up hills in the woods then you will enjoy your time here. Breakfast sets you up well for the day. It is vast and coffee and tea along with fresh juices are great. Freshly cooked egg dishes made to order are a further joy. Personally, we found that we booked a room that was very expensive to give us the facilities we wanted (bath tub and air conditioning - the air conditioning is not very effective). To get those facilities we had to book a junior suite with a lovely balcony and a large seating area which we enjoyed but the private sauna in the room was not something we wanted. To be fair the room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. A few English language channels beyond 'news' channels or the ability to chromecast from one's i-pad would have made it even better. Swimming pool indoor and outdoor is very enjoyable and not too crowded. The location is lovely, but quite remote. It takes a long time to get there from an autobahn and once there, opportunities to travel to nearby destinations are limited, so you really do need to focus on the hotel facilities of golf, walking and the swimming pool. We booked half board and while this comprises a lot of courses after a few days the experience started to become too similar and we longed for less but better. For example, there was always a choice of main course of meat, fish or vegetarian but the meat and fish tended to be small and over cooked and smothered in foams. The best aspect of the hotel by far is the friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff, particularly in the restaurant. However, overall we were disappointed in that when we compare with other German and Austrian hotels with similar facilities and even more beautiful locations, this was a lot more expensive. "

Landhotel Albers ★★★
"The bed was comfortable and made daily, though nothing special. The room’s furnishings were adequate, and it was well-ventilated and stayed cool despite the heat and lack of air conditioning. Unfortunately, cleanliness was a concern. The floors were not vacuumed, and the bathroom often smelled musty due to water leaking from a poorly closing shower. This also caused water damage on the bathroom door, which added to the unpleasant experience. While the room was otherwise comfortable, these maintenance and hygiene issues significantly affected our stay. The staff were often unfriendly and seemed reluctant to assist us. Upon arrival, we were wrongly blamed for not printing our voucher, even though the confirmation email explicitly stated that this was unnecessary. While the check-in process itself was quick once the voucher was emailed, the initial impression was off-putting. During meals, the service felt rushed and inattentive. Bread that our children had started eating at breakfast was charged to our account, without any prior warning. We also felt constantly monitored, and staff often placed dishes on the table before we had time to clear or arrange it properly. The coffee machine remained broken for several days, which was frustrating. Overall, the staff’s approach made us feel unwelcome and reluctant to stay in the hotel. The food was tasty and plentiful. However, there were limited options for children, and vegetables were not always available. While the quality of the meals was good, the lack of flexibility for children was disappointing. Although the surrounding area is very beautiful and added some enjoyment to our stay, our experience at the hotel itself was disappointing. The facilities were adequate, the room acceptable, and the food good, but recurring issues with staff behavior, room cleanliness, and maintenance overshadowed the positive aspects."
