Hotel Riu Karamboa - All Inclusive - Adults Only ★★★★★
"I was sceptical about visiting this hotel, but I have to say its fantastic! We are here now and everything is spot on. The staff can't do enough for you and there are load ofvthem attending every need. Food is plentiful good, we have eaten in the buffet and two of several restaurants, the Kulinarium food is first class restaurant food. There are plenty of sunbeds, and the newly refurbished rooms are excellent and well stocked with drinks. The place us spotlessly clean and well equipped. There is daily entertainment ground the site and the animation teams are a joy. The beach is beautiful and sea a great shade of turquoise ( a little rough though) The only surprise we had was the size of the hotel its vast! We will definitely be back in fact will book for later in the year."
Vila Cristina ★★★★
"Location place face to sea, cosy, beautiful decoration, equipped kitchen. Taxi service available, restaurant and bar nearby. Villa near the airport. Very available, reactive with optimal communication via whatsapp. Super stay"
Riu Palace Boavista - All Inclusive ★★★★★
"Me and my friend returned 10 days ago from a lovely, relaxing week at this hotel. Rooms spacious and comfortable with a fab shower, iron, safe, kettle, fridge with drinks and optics. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but it kept cutting out after a minute or two. We rang reception who told us it was normal for the hairdryer to stop after 2 minutes and restart later…bring your own if you can! Bars, restaurants, pools, and outdoor spaces clean and well kept. Beautiful beach with plenty of sun beds, the sea was calm enough to paddle in most days but does get rough. The weather was hot with a strong breeze, perfect for us. The donkey that visited us on the beach each day was an added bonus. Food was good with lots of choice at the buffet, and the à la carte restaurants gave good service and lovely food, but limited menus. There is a menu for cocktails and drinks but if you ask for something else they will make it if they can. The margaritas were very pleasant. Evening entertainment was the usual offerings, we went to the white party at the Karamboa and that was a nice change. There is a shop onsite, nice stuff but expensive. As we didn’t venture out I bought my souvenirs from the airport, which turned out to be cheaper than the hotel shop. We had a really nice stay at the RIU Palace and would definitely go back at the right price."
Occidental Boa Vista Beach ★★★★
"Showers were gross, tiles had gone yellow and didn’t look like they’d been cleaned properly in a while. The wifi is horrible, even where the wifi is strongest it doesn’t work very well. The entertainment is poor, a couple nights a week it’s a party where nobody really attends. The positive is that it’s a very short drive from the airport, about 2 minutes. However there isn’t much to do inside the resort but it also doesn’t feel very safe to leave. We went into town and the locals didn’t seem to like that we were there, I wouldn’t go into town as a woman alone ever. The resort was mainly people who didn’t speak english which isn’t a big issue for us but meant the staff were never really speaking in english so we didn’t really know what was going on. We didn’t really do much of the activities as we couldn’t understand what was happening so wouldn’t recommend if you only speak english. The staff are nice, apart from the ones in the resort shops who are quite rude. For what we paid, I think it was worth the money as we can’t expect much but we did pay £900pp at least so if I was going to go somewhere again with that budget it would definitely not be here."
VOI Praia de Chaves Resort ★★★★
"We have just returned from a 10-night stay at VOI Praia de Chaves. The location is absolutely fantastic — right on the beach and only around a five-minute drive from the airport, making transfers quick and convenient. The rooms could benefit from some modernisation; however, they were kept exceptionally clean throughout our stay, which is ultimately one of the most important factors. Housekeeping did an excellent job every day. The main pool was much larger than we had expected, and both pools were consistently well-maintained. Staff were regularly checking and cleaning the pool areas throughout the day, which was great to see. The buffet restaurant was probably the weakest aspect of the holiday for us. While the food was generally well-prepared, the selection became quite repetitive, particularly at dinner, with only minor variations from one evening to the next. Breakfast remained largely the same each day, although this was less of an issue. Unfortunately, there were also a significant number of flies around the dining area, often landing on guests and food while eating. One of the highlights of our stay was the entertainment team. From the very first day, my boyfriend joined in with the morning activities and games every day without fail. This helped him build a great rapport with a few members of the team, particularly Matteo and Christian, who consistently made him feel welcome, included, and valued throughout our holiday. Before booking, I hadn’t done extensive research into the hotel brand, and it quickly became apparent that VOI hotels primarily cater to an Italian market, due to being Italian owned. While most staff made a genuine effort to communicate in English, some understandably struggled due to the language barrier. On occasion, a few members of the entertainment team would walk past without acknowledging us, although this may simply have been due to limited English rather than any intentional lack of friendliness. As an Italian-owned hotel, the vast majority of guests were Italian, with a number of Portuguese visitors as well. As British tourists, we did sometimes feel that the hotel’s activities, entertainment, and overall atmosphere were geared more towards these guests. This isn’t necessarily a criticism, but it is worth noting for anyone from the UK considering booking, as the experience may feel less tailored to English-speaking visitors."
