"The service at all staff levels was superlative! The care that the employees of the Moderna take in order to welcome and assist their clientele was unsurpassed in our eight visits to Italy over the past half century. Our room, though not large,was equipped with every modern convenience, the lighting,the bed, the storage closet and the spacious bathroom were designed for maximum comfort. The dinners served in the well appointed dining room were excellent; the breakfasts deserve a five star rating. Our six day stay in the Hotel Moderna was totally rewarding. The decor of the otherwise smart lobby and elevator landings would be mightily improved by removing horrid unattractive sculptures and dreadful artificial flower/botanical decorations."

"This is our second stay at this small hotel. Some things have changed since 2018. They have grown from three rooms to six, and the staffing level also seems to have grown. Staff were still efficient and helpful. Breakfast is still served in the beautiful salon with the antique furniture and paintings, beautiful chandeliers, and other interesting decorative items. Breakfast still consists of breads and pastries, and a selection of meats and cheese. They serve great coffee and accommodate American taste by bringing refills. The hotel occupies most of one floor of an architecturally important building, a restored late 19th century Pallazzo. The octagonal center space is bright and airy thanks to the iron and glass dome. The property is on the main pedestrian street in Pavia. Access is from a side street, and with the keys provided, you have twenty-four hour admission. The elevator is small, especially if you have a lot of luggage. Fortunately, we did not. The room was quiet, and comfortable with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture and art. The Wi-Fi was strong. The bath was spacious, with large towels. The property is in a limited access zone, so you need to follow a map to arrive at the rear. We chose to let them valet park our car, but public parking is available in the area."

"Large, clean room, with coffee and tea, fair price. Owners very kind in giving directions. The only flaw, but only as far as I'm concerned, are the hard pillows, but that's subjective now. Absolutely recommended."

"The deep yellow pillow bears witness to countless people who have lain on it. An old man, unable to lift his legs, paced the room at three in the morning, taking small, hesitant steps, circling in place like Fan Xiaoqin. Perhaps I will return to this city, but then I will blow up this bedroom."

"I don't recommend it for non-smokers. The rooms smell strongly of cigarettes, the bathroom and facilities don't work properly, and you have to pay extra for air conditioning, which is very far away and quite expensive. The only good thing is the staff's attention; they were very friendly, even though the address on the reservation wasn't the correct one, and I waited 40 minutes for them to open the door."
