Mantra Samui Resort

Bo Phut Koh Samui|5.44km from downtown
I read many reviews about this resort and studied the Mantra Samui website, but never learned until after I booked (4 nights stay) my room that they had cancelled , during Covid, the regular shuttle that took guests down the hill to Fisherman Villa. I learned this because I called the hotel before my trip to ask some questions and also ask how to reserve a place on their shuttle. The resort does have one auto/driver that will drive you down to the bottom of the hill if it is there, and if it is not picking up someone at the airport. The shuttle delivers you directly to the bottom of the hill, is pretty much is just a local road. Then you can wave down a taxi and negotiate the price. Some fun! The Mantra Sumai should update their website to say the regular shuttle has been cancelled, and replaced by their maybe available one car. Continuing my story... We booked a massage at another hotel that is about 20 minutes away, and gave ourselves one hour to get there. So the night before we reserved to get the ride down to the bottom of the hill for the next day afternoon. When we went to reception, we were informed there was an accident, which was a flat tire, and the tire 'might' be fixed in half an hour and then another 20 minutes to get back to the Mantra. They apparently felt no responsibility to contact us. Just wait for the guests to show up and then tell them. They felt no responsibility to call the driver for any update. They then offered to call a taxi, but that would take about 20 minutes to arrive. Also when you call a taxi there is no opportunity for negotiation. My hour was dwindling. Well 20 is better than maybe 30 + 20 minutes. So they called the taxi. Luckily the Mantra driver showed up after 15 minutes, and the taxi was cancelled. My conclusion, after all the interfaces with reception, is they have a poor sense of responsibility and lacking the ability for logical thinking to provide a good guest experience. There are other examples beyond the above. Our suite room was in good condition, and everything functioning. Well, except the phone did not work, but I did not need that. The suite has a king size bed and a separate built in bed in the back of the living room. OK, so 4 people can stay. But the flaw in the suites is there is only a 2 person love seat to sit on. There is no chair, and no desk. It is no fun to use your laptop when the coffee table level is below your knees. A simple 4 leg table for a desk, and a simple chair would be nice, and not cost very much. They do have an on-site co-work room somewhere, but I did not use it. I think it is an extra cost and I did not have that much work to do anyway. The highlight of the Mantra Samui was the included breakfast. There are many cooked to order choices plus a buffet of juices, fruits, cereals, yogurt, pastries, and several breads you can toast yourself. We tried every item on the breakfast menu and all were nicely done and tasty. Very good coffee and tea made to order i

Melia Koh Samui

Congwong Beach Koh Samui|6.53km from downtown
I have been to Koh Samui many times and have almost stayed in hotels of the well-known groups on the island. Of course, each hotel has its own characteristics, but in the second half of 2020, the beauty found on the reservation website can be regarded as the best hotel for parents and children on Koh Samui. Not luxurious but very warm; all the staff are warm and friendly (thanks to Aun, HK 4 staff, spa manager, oil, restaurant staff for their care and help during their stay); can add extra beds for children; The facilities are very suitable for parents and children (the pool surrounds the entire resort, 3 water slides, floating beds, children club and trampoline, goose*stone waterway); there are children's menus and children's dining chairs; the beach and sea water are medium and upper level in Koh Samui, the sea is very calm, suitable for children to dig sand and play in the water; Every day after finishing the room, there will be different towels made on the bed, especially after knowing that children like dinosaurs, there will be different dinosaurs made by towels. A little improvement: breakfast and dinner menus can be richer, there are fewer choices (especially breakfast), long stay will not know what to eat; Probably in special times, there are too few guests, the staff is streamlined, the water in the ring pool is not clean (it is true that most of the time the pool is not used by guests); mosquito control and insect control need to be further strengthened.

The Privilege Hotel Ezra Beach Club

Bo Phut Koh Samui|4.02km from downtown
Recently stayed at this hotel for 1 week, arrived from the Airport with no luggage as Bangkok airways lost it, checked in to the hotel and was met by a lovely member of staff who was waiting for me, she offered me a welcome drink on arrival which was very much appreciated after a long flight. After check in, was shown to my room which was a pool side deluxe room with Double bed and En-suite. Room was very clean, spacious and came with Fresh towels, Toiletries, a Mini fridge stocked with beers, satellite T.V, Aircon and some free drinks/snacks. My stay came with free breakfast every morning, which was very handy and the selection was always really nice. Lots of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, eggs cooked to the way you wanted along with a choice of tea/coffee and fresh juices. Staff are soo friendly and welcoming, they clean your room everyday and provide fresh sheets and towels as well as toiletries. The Hotel is quite modern and staff had decorated the reception for Chinese New Year with lanterns and fairy lights. The position of the hotel is good, about 10 min drive in a taxi to Fisherman's village, which is full of bars/restaurants and shops. The hotel is also right on the beach, so you have the option to swim in the sea or the pool and look out onto the amazing views. I loved my stay at this hotel and would highly recommend! (Only negative thing I can think of is that the Pool Bar was never open, so it would be good to see this open in the future).

Celes Samui

Bo Phut Koh Samui|5.55km from downtown
We stayed in Celes Samui in March 2023. And all in all our holiday was very nice and relaxing. Although we got off to a rocky start. After arriving we were picked up by the hotels shuttle, it was nice not to worry about the transfer. Then we were driven to Celes Samui but we were surprised that we didn't go to the entrance shown on the website but another one just 40m further. This was the entrance to the older Celes Palm Beach Resort (I think this one is advertised as one of the first Resorts on Koh Samui). Right after the first night in our hotel room (very clean, bright and spacious) we discovered bite marks on our feet. We did not know what caused those marks, and thoroughly inspected the bed and the room but found nothing. However the next night we got few more, after which we asked to change the room. The staff was helpful and we were able to change the room without any problem. Unfortunately we ended up in a top floor room in the building right next to the street. This street is very busy also (or especially) at night and it was almost impossible to sleep. So we ask to change room again and luckily could change to a room which was not much further away but already much more silent. After this our holiday preceded nicely. The breakfast is excellent with a big selection of continental/European food and local specialties. The 3 Pools and beach are very clean and the personal is very friendly. Also the proximity to Fisherman's village (~ 1km/15min walking), the SevenEleven just between the two Celes entrances and the many restaurants on the street are a clear Plus. Our main critic is about the advertisement of the hotel: it's important to note that Celes Samui consists of two different hotels which very much feel still separate although pools and restaurants are shared. There are 2 lobbies, 2 gyms, 2 libraries. Also the beach towels have different colors, so everyone knows to which site you belong. It is a small detail but kind of made us feel like the hotel is still separated internally to the more modern side and the other, bit more dated side. During our booking only pictures of the newer, more fancy Celes Samui were shown on the website. However, this area is much smaller and most of the guest will stay in the older, more dated area. It should be more clearly stated during booking where you stay! From the pictures and the previous reviews you get the feeling you will stay in a very calm and tranquilizing environment but if you then end up in the ”tropical zone” it is everything else but calm in case you end up right next to the street. The second comment is the amount of sun chairs in the 2 hotels. On two days we got up early to join the organized jogging trip (which is very nice btw) and to go on a boat tour, and almost all the sunbeds at the beach front pools were already reserved before 7 am! On the beach there are only few sunbeds (maybe around 30), which are only located in front of the older Hotel. The rest of the hotel's beachfront

Chaweng Noi Koh Samui|2.51km from downtown
Away from the hustle of central Chaweng, so is a good spot to be based for quiet times and used as a base to explore the island. Beachfront pool villas are nice, large and great views of the ocean. Private pool is a bonus and well worth the upgrade. Hotel was busy when I stayed and everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying themselves. The pool isn’t the largest but plentiful for the amount of rooms. Don’t forget, there are the villas with private pools, so a fair number of guests will be in their own area. Access to the beach is not directly in front of the hotel, but that’s a good thing otherwise I would be hearing everyone in front of my villa each day. Access is the side of the resort just past the restaurant. Along this stretch of beach has a few other hotel bars and restaurants to eat and drink in and if you head to the furtherest headland point, and head inland, you will come across a handful of bars and restaurants. As many people have said, the hotel is next to a road - but like most hotels in Samui, it’s just the design of the island. You can avoid the main road for your walk to the local area by going along the stretch of beach. And when you are on the island, why wouldn’t you want to walk along the beach?! So don’t listen to those comments about nothing nearby. If you want the hustle of the nightlife, Chaweng central is 15 minutes away. Get on the shuttle or order a taxi for 300thb. It’s a 4 star hotel, trying to get back to some kind of normal after covid and over time, I am sure the owners will reinvest their money to make improvements where some other guests have commented about in other posts but I do think it is dependent on the room type you book and/or are assigned as most of them are fine. Give it a go, it is worth it. I’ve been to many hotels over the years - more than the average Joe - and it’s only recently where I’ve checked in and out of two hotels on the same day in all these years.

Samui Green Hotel

Chaweng Beach Koh Samui|0.09km from Chaweng Walking Street
The hotel is hidden away off the road so easily missed and is probably one step up from a hostel in my opinion. This being said, the rooms are spacious and as advertised, just nothing special or luxurious about the place. Beds are hard as rocks, we had to change rooms as the first one was like lying on wood (room 205) but they did accommodate this quickly. It seems that most of the rooms have broken shower head holders as well so be prepared to have to hold this to wash yourself down, but again, this isn’t a major issue. Internet is a bit hit and miss, but again, the owner helped sort this out promptly when I asked for help. We didn’t realise you have to pay for your room on arrival and there is a 2% fee for card/ cash for this so beware and be prepared prior to arrival. There is no lift, just one narrow winding staircase up to the floor of rooms. Construction next door means if it’s windy (which it often is), the leftover materials clank around really noisily which is annoying when you’re trying to sleep. The local area is still noticeably recovering from Covid with many places closed or derelict so you have to walk about 25/30 mins to the more lively part of the island but this is no real bother. Beach is a 5 min walk round the corner so although the hotel has no pool, you don’t miss it. Plenty of places to grab a drink, some bar food and a Thai massage down the beach too. Would happily up the score to 4/5 if the beds and pillows were better, the Wi-Fi was consistent and there was actually tea and coffee in the rooms to go with the kettle as I think the hotel is great value for money and is adequately advertised so you should know what to expect. The hotel arranged a taxi to collect us from the local airport for 350b which was on time, professional and had AC so this is a great feature. Just drop them a message pre-arrival to arrange.

1. Had 2 separate bookings and requested them to make it a back-to-back reservation so I have the same room throughout my stay. Had informed them prior to arrival (assured me it’s done), had to request and remind again upon check in (apparently wasn’t done). Came by the front desk to check on it a day before my 2nd booking (it wasn’t done yet again!). The next day, my key wasn’t working as it wasn’t programmed for my entire stay. They gave me a bogus reason that I need to check in again when I was assured everything was resolved on 3 occasions! 2. Requested for late check out and was told to check again on the eve of my departure. Checked on the eve of my departure, to only be rejected for late check out. Was repeatedly told to keep my luggage at 12pm when I was trying to reason with them. We know we can leave our luggage like any other hotel but didn’t want to. Hence, the late check out. The staff should be able to see the occupancy forecasts and manage my expectations upon check in and not disappoint me on a later day. 3. Shared my negative experience and after some empathetic requests (I didn’t want any monetary service recovery), was given an extra hour for late check out. They said that’s the best they can do. 4. Make sure to lock all your valuables in the safe. Housekeeping left my door ajar after make up room. I only found out when I returned at night! 5. Nice beach bar but basic cocktails. The minimum spent for a sofa/bed is ridiculously high. So visit other beach bars with better service and cocktails. 6. To all that’s reading this, don’t expect any empathy and assistance from this hotel. Don’t make any request! They can’t resolve them! I gave them 2 stars for the below. Positives: 1. Location is okay, quiet area with some stores and restaurants 2. Staff was friendly and pool is warm to dip 3. Breakfast acceptable.

Bo Phut Koh Samui|0.18km from Fisherman's Village
It was our 1st time on Koh Samui and hence Fishermans Village. The reception we received at check-in was so lovely, friendly , jovial, and really genuine. We'd booked an Exclusive Sea front room (we got number 2) and paid about £380 for 5 nights. The second I walked into the room, I said I may not leave it, and for a lot of our 5 nights, I didn't!! It was stunning. It had everything we wanted! The room was really nicely decorated, big TV with Netflix etc, really comfy bed, excellent air con and a ceiling fan. Good size bathroom, shower was hot but very little pressure. The outside space was just lovely! A very comfortable day sofa/lounger, decking area with table and chairs facing the most stunning of views. Lower patio had 2 sun loungers and lead to the beach!! The room and outside area was kept spotlessly clean. House keeping just appeared almost by magic! Once we only left the room for a few minutes and when we returned it had been cleaned, outside too, furniture was moved and deck swept every time!! The swimming pool is on the roof, up maybe 50 steps, so be aware if this could be an issue with mobility. Water was provided via a 1ltr glass bottle that you refilled from a cold water machine - excellent idea, more should do this. We didn't have breakfast but it was available at a small charge. The only thing that let this hotel down was the lack of pressure in the shower, normally this would bother us, but it was almost irrelevant as we loved the room so much!! We loved Fishermans Village so much, we changed our last 4 nights (of our 60) to come back, unfortunately, Hacienda wasn't available!! Definitely will stay again!

I nearly changed my holiday because of the negative reviews that i read here, however i was so pleased i didn't and went with my gut instinct. I have just returned from the most wonderful relaxing holiday at the Mai Samui beach resort. The hotel has been built in a traditional Thai style, on a quiet peninsular of Samui. So if you are looking for a glossy high rise concrete soulless block with entertainment and plenty of bars surrounding you, then this is not the place for you. There are a few local restaurants and a coffee shop only a few minutes walk away. With lively Bophut, with the Fisherman's market and Nathon are only a short taxi ride away (or free bus from hotel every day). The hotel has a variety of rooms to stay in, a couple of restaurants and a great beach bar with an extensive cocktail menu. The staff are all amazing, friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently having a few renovations but so has everyone else. Hotels and bars across the world have all suffered being locked down for several years due to Covid 19, and have only just re-opened, so yes they all need to do a bit of catch up. The renovations did not impact us in any way, and did not spoil our holiday one bit. I chose not to do all inclusive and opted for breakfast only. There was plenty of choice every morning. The egg chef was always busy with everyone's individual orders. One very small negative is the lack gluten free options or milk alternatives, but we worked around it. The beach is not your usual tropical lounging sandy spot. This is a very shallow tidal bay with some rocks and corals. It is great for a low tide walk, but not swimming. To make up for this the hotel has a couple of large well thought out swimming pools. and there is a raised sandy area to the front of the beach with plenty of sunbeds and chairs to lounge on. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel if you prefer a quite resort but with easy access to livelier towns. If i have the chance i would definitely come back again. Thank you everyone at Mai Samui for a wonderful stay.

It's not often I leave bad reviews, in fact this is the only time but I feel it's warranted. We booked the 1 bedroom villas on the beachside, once we caught our navigo there, none of us knew where the hell to go, this includes the navigo driver who telephoned the number on our itinerary and got no one at all. It was only by chance I walked into an office with no one manning it that I found someone in a back room to check me in. The reception phone to call someone is static and cannot make sense of anyone talking on the other end once they finally pick up. Once we were into the villa, that's when most of the problems started. It certainly isn't 4 star as it advertises itself. The positives first were the rooms were big, the pool was private and the wifi worked well. There's also a decent coffee shop just down the road. Now unfortunately onto the negatives * very overpriced for what you get * the beach is covered up by trees so no sea view * once at the beach, it's covered in litter and not clean * the shower goes hot-cold-warm then stays cold * the jacuzzi was dirty and the water that came out of that was brown and horrible * the wood skirting needs to be replaced as the water has damaged them over time * the bedside lamps are red which makes the room feel like a ******* (they are also chipped/broken) * the 3 tvs in the place were not working and once I tried to tune back in, still nothing. On top of this, the DVD player also wouldn't stay on * the frypan and egg flip had MOULD on them when I went to use for breakfast, then when I returned to the office to get replaced, I was told I would get a new one later that day, 3 days later on departure and no clean frypan. * constant leaves in the pool from the surrounding trees Overall I wouldn't recommend this place to stay at as its way too overpriced for what you actually get.

We stumbled upon this place when we weren’t really sure where we were headed next and we couldn’t have been more thrilled! There was one room available for, unfortunately, only one night. I’m not surprised it’s fully booked. The staff are very friendly, the place is clean and adorable! A few steps to the beach with loungers and tables for use. It is the extra touches that make it, shower cap, cotton buds and insect repellent in the bathroom, water and a fully functioning fridge (with ice box and ice tray) in the bedroom. This really has been amazing to stay at. It was also incredibly priced at £13 a night!

The price is very high, the room is big enough, I didn't expect two houses to be hotels. I didn't expect to live in a Frenchman downstairs and had a great time chatting with them. The best thing is that I am on the 3rd floor. I lived next door to a couple in the evening and could hear the sound of screaming...

I booked the airport transfer before departure, and sent a big car to pick it up as soon as I left the airport. The hotel is very close to the airport, but the location is a bit away from the city. It is very convenient to directly ask the counter to help rent a car. We went That day, I just ran into the firsherman night market on Friday, not far from the hotel. The room is very big, and the toilet is bigger than the sleeping place, but the swimming pool inside the house is very small, so we all go to the big pool at the end to play in the water, and there is a beach at the back. It is also great to stroll around on the beach. The hotel staff is very kind, and breakfast will be delivered to the room. Our breakfasts are different for the two days, so I won’t get tired of it at all. It’s great.
